Campgrounds and RV parks near Chittenango, NY

Chittenango sits in Madison County, just east of Syracuse and a short drive from both the Erie Canal corridor and the southern shore of Oneida Lake. The town works well as a base for RV travelers who want quick access to Central New York state parks, waterfront recreation, and Finger Lakes wine country to the west. The closest public campground is Green Lakes State Park, known for its two glacial meromictic lakes and old-growth forest. Farther east, Verona Beach State Park offers lakefront camping on Oneida Lake, and private options such as Whispering Woods Campground, Cedar Valley Campsite, and The Landing Campground fill out the area with full-hookup and family-oriented sites. Terrain in the region is gently rolling farmland and drumlin country, with easy highway access via I-90 (New York State Thruway) and I-81. Most campgrounds within a thirty-minute radius accommodate travel trailers and Class A/C motorhomes, though a few older state park loops have length limits worth checking before booking.

New York state park campsites, including Green Lakes State Park and Verona Beach State Park, are reserved through ReserveAmerica. Reservations can be made up to 9 months in advance, so popular summer weekends should be locked in early in the calendar year. Same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival for campsites only, either online or through the ReserveAmerica Call Center, and walk-ins are permitted on campsites only. Private campgrounds such as Whispering Woods Campground, Cedar Valley Campsite, and The Landing Campground handle bookings directly through their own websites or by phone. Full-hookup pull-through sites at private parks tend to sell out first for July, August, and race or festival weekends in the Syracuse area.
