Campgrounds and RV parks near Constantia, NY

Oneida Lake is the anchor activity. It is best known for walleye and yellow perch fishing, with bass, northern pike, and panfish also abundant. The Oneida Fish Hatchery in Constantia is the main walleye egg-collection site for New York State and offers seasonal public access. Boat launches, shore-fishing access, and guided charters operate out of Constantia and nearby Cleveland. At Green Lakes State Park, visitors can swim at the beach, rent rowboats and kayaks, hike miles of trails through hemlock and old-growth forest, or play the 18-hole golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones. Private boats are not permitted on the park's lakes. For a day trip, Sylvan Beach on the east shore offers an amusement park, a sandy public beach, and lakeside restaurants.

The main RV camping season in Central New York runs from mid-May through mid-October. Green Lakes State Park operates on that schedule, opening in mid-May and closing in mid-October. Swimming at state park beaches is generally staffed from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, and lifeguard coverage can affect whether swimming is allowed on any given day. Summer is peak: warm lake water, active bass and walleye fisheries, and full campground services. Weekends and holidays fill quickly, and reservations for Green Lakes and popular private parks should be made well in advance. Spring brings cool nights and wet conditions, with the New York walleye, pike, and pickerel season opening statewide on May 1 under current DEC regulations. Fall delivers foliage, cooler nights, and strong fishing as fish feed before winter. Most private campgrounds close by late October. Winter is quiet on the north shore, though Oneida Lake is a well-known ice-fishing destination for walleye and jumbo perch when safe ice forms, which varies from year to year.

Roads on the north shore are two-lane and rural. State Route 49 runs the length of the shoreline through Constantia and Cleveland and handles most RV traffic; expect slower speeds and limited pull-through fueling. Cell coverage is generally solid near the lake but can thin out in the wooded areas north toward Tug Hill. Private campgrounds in the area lean toward family, seasonal, and fishing-focused clientele, with a mix of full-hookup and water-electric sites. Green Lakes State Park offers tent sites, electric sites, cabins, showers, a camp store, and a dump station, along with a beach, golf, and miles of trails. Bring bug spray for late spring and early summer, and check for harmful algal bloom advisories before swimming, as Oneida Lake has recorded HAB events and periodic beach closures during warm months.
