Campgrounds and RV parks near Gouverneur, NY

Gouverneur sits in St. Lawrence County, on the western edge of the Adirondack foothills and the lowlands of the St. Lawrence River Valley in northern New York. The area serves as a practical base for RV trips into the Thousand Islands, the northwest Adirondacks, and the St. Lawrence River corridor, with the Natural Bridge and Watertown regions within easy driving distance. Options close to town lean toward small, family-run parks and cottage colonies rather than large resorts. Back Bay Campground and Cottages, The Log Cabins, McLear's Cottage Colony and Campground, and North Country Cottages and Campgrounds are among the nearest properties, while Natural Bridge / Watertown KOA Journey provides a full-service RV park along the route toward Watertown. Campers who want established public facilities can reach New York State Parks and DEC campgrounds within the region, including waterfront sites along the St. Lawrence River. The mix of private cottage colonies, a KOA, and nearby state and DEC campgrounds gives RV renters a range of hookup levels, from basic sites to full-service pads.

New York State Park and DEC campgrounds are reserved through the state's ReserveAmerica system, either online at newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com or by phone. Reservations can be made up to nine months in advance on a rolling window, and same-day campsite reservations are accepted until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival. Out-of-state residents pay an added fee. Private parks near Gouverneur, including Back Bay Campground and Cottages, The Log Cabins, McLear's Cottage Colony and Campground, and North Country Cottages and Campgrounds, are booked directly with the operator by phone or website. Natural Bridge / Watertown KOA Journey uses the KOA reservation system. For summer weekends, RV renters should book several months out for waterfront and full-hookup sites. New York restricts moving untreated firewood more than 50 miles from its source, so plan to buy wood on site or nearby.
