Campgrounds and RV parks near Hannibal, NY

Lake Ontario is the region's headline draw. At Fair Haven Beach State Park, RV travelers can use 1,500 feet of sandy beach with a 600-foot guarded swim area, plus inland Sterling Pond and Sterling Creek for paddling and fishing. The park also keeps a hiking trail, five picnic areas, three shelters, and a ballfield on site. Fishing and boating extend into Little Sodus Bay just west of the park. Beyond the state park, the Sterling Valley offers quiet country roads for cycling, orchards and wineries on the drive toward Sodus Bay, and day trips to Erie Canal towns south of Hannibal. In winter, the same lakeshore corridor supports snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice fishing, though most private campgrounds close well before then.

The Hannibal area has a short, busy camping season shaped by Lake Ontario. Fair Haven Beach State Park typically operates its campsites from mid-May into early October, with the Drumlin A loop closing around Labor Day and Drumlin B, Bluff, and Lakeview staying open a few weeks longer. Cottages run on a separate, longer season. Trip planners should confirm loop-specific dates before booking, since posted seasons shift year to year. Summer is peak. July and August bring the warmest lake temperatures, full beach staffing, and the tightest availability at Fair Haven, especially on weekends and around holidays. June and early September are quieter and often more comfortable for RV travel, with cooler nights and fewer bugs. Late fall brings cold rain and the first lake-effect snow off Ontario, and winter shuts down nearly all tent and RV camping in the corridor. Snowmobiling and ice fishing continue on public land, but overnight RV options become very limited once campgrounds winterize.

Expect a mix of wooded and open sites. Fair Haven Beach State Park has 46 electric sites and 138 non-electric sites spread across three separate campgrounds, plus a cabin colony, with centralized restrooms and showers serving the loops. The Bluff loop holds the electric sites, Drumlin is the largest non-electric area, and Lakeview sits close to the water. A dump station is available in the Drumlin area, and full hookups are not offered. A vehicle use fee applies at most New York state parks, and pets are limited to two per site, leashed, with proof of rabies vaccination available on request. Cell coverage along the lakeshore can be uneven, so download maps and reservation confirmations before leaving town. Nearby private campgrounds vary in hookups and amenities, so verify site length, electric service, and dump access when booking.
