Campgrounds near New York Mills

New York Mills sits in Oneida County in central New York, a short drive from Utica and within easy reach of the Mohawk Valley, the western Adirondacks, and the Erie Canal corridor. RV travelers use the area as a base for lake camping, state park stays, and forays into the Adirondack foothills. Options range from full-hookup private parks to wooded public campgrounds. Delta Lake State Park, about a half hour north near Rome, offers a beach, picnic tables and pavilions, trails for hiking and bike riding, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and ice fishing, a boat launch, and a three-loop campground with 101 tent and trailer sites, showers and multiple dump stations. Lake Chalet Motel and Campground and Trails End Campground and Mobile Home Park sit closer to town, while West Canada Creek Campground and Scenic View Campground pull travelers toward the creek valleys and higher ground east of the city. Most sites accommodate standard travel trailers and Class C motorhomes. The 101 reservable campsites at Delta Lake are spacious, with enough room for either tents or RVs up to 40 feet in length, so larger Class A rigs should confirm site length and turning access before booking.

Things to do near New York Mills

Activities in Delta Lake State Park include boating, biking, fishing, hiking, camping, and picnicking in the summer, and ice fishing, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing in the winter. A boat launch, plus shoreline fishing for trout, pike, bass, bullhead and perch, make the park popular with anglers. West Canada Creek is a draw for paddlers and fly fishing, and the surrounding state forest lands offer marked hiking trails. Families base at Lake Chalet Motel and Campground or Trails End Campground and Mobile Home Park for quick access to Utica attractions, including the Utica Zoo, Munson, the regional fine arts center with a museum of art, performing arts and school of art divisions, and Erie Canal towpath rides. Day trips reach the southern Adirondacks, Old Forge, and Cooperstown, all within roughly an hour to ninety minutes.

Central New York has a humid continental climate. Utica experiences warm summers and cold winters with strong seasonal contrast, and precipitation is spread relatively evenly throughout the year, with fall tending to be the wettest season and winter the driest. Summer is the peak RV window: warm days, long evenings, and full services at lakeside parks. Weekends around Independence Day and Labor Day book out early. Spring brings mud, high water on West Canada Creek, and cool nights that still dip near freezing into May. Blackfly pressure rises in late May and June in the foothills. Fall delivers cool, clear days and strong foliage color from late September into mid-October, and shoulder-season availability is much easier. Delta Lake State Park offers 101 tent, trailer or RV camping sites and a sandy beach with swimming in the summer, and for winter visitors there are cross-country ski trails. The beach has lifeguards on duty from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Many private campgrounds close or run reduced services from late October through April.

Everything was as described. The host made sure we had everything we needed to ensure our weekend was enjoyable. Was accommodating and easy to work with. The camper is older but everything works and in good shape it was perfect for our long weekend racing

We had such a wonderful experience renting this RV! The owner was absolutely fantastic—so kind, accommodating, and incredibly flexible throughout the entire process. Communication was seamless, he was always quick to respond, and he went above and beyond to make everything easy and stress-free. The RV itself was spotless, in pristine condition, and clearly very well cared for. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and would absolutely rent from him again. Highly recommend!

We had an outstanding experience with this camper trailer rental in the Adirondacks last week. The unit was delivered right on time and was amazingly clean—everything inside was spotless and ready to go. It came fully equipped with everything we needed, so we didn’t have to scramble for any essentials. The host, Alex, was very friendly, professional, and informative. They took the time to walk us through the camper, answer all our questions, and make sure we felt comfortable before heading out. That personal touch really set the rental apart. We based ourselves near Long Lake and loved exploring the area. Highlights included grabbing ice cream at Hoss’s, catching some World Cup action at the Long Lake Diner and Owl’s Head Pub, and just soaking in the quiet lakes and mountain views. The Adirondacks never disappoint—peaceful mornings on the water and scenic drives through the woods made for some of our favorite moments. Overall, this was an easy, stress-free rental experience. Clean unit, reliable delivery, and genuinely helpful hosts. We’d happily rent from them again. Highly recommended!

What to expect on the ground

Delta Lake State Park is located on a peninsula extending into Delta Reservoir, and the terrain is wooded and generally flat. Quiet hours apply at night, and each site has a picnic table and a fire pit. Each campsite has electrical hookups, with a mix of 30 amp and 50 amp power, a fire pit, and a picnic table, but no single hookups for either water or sewer, and there are faucets with potable water as well as restrooms with hot showers and flush toilets at each loop. Private parks in the area more commonly provide full water, electric, and sewer hookups, along with laundry, camp stores, and Wi-Fi of varying reliability. Cell coverage is generally solid near New York Mills and thins in the creek valleys and Adirondack foothills. The use of generators is only allowed from 9 AM to 11 AM and from 5 PM to 9 PM. Pets must be leashed and attended, and owners are expected to clean up after them.
