Campgrounds near Clinton, North Carolina
Clinton sits in Sampson County in southeastern North Carolina's coastal plain, roughly an hour southeast of Raleigh and about the same distance inland from Wilmington and the Atlantic beaches. The town works well as a base for RV travelers heading to the Cape Fear region, the Bladen Lakes area, or the I-40 corridor between the Triangle and the coast.
Most campgrounds in the immediate area cluster around White Lake, a spring-fed Carolina bay lake about 25 miles south of town that draws families for its clear water and sandy shoreline. White Lake Motel and Campground, Gilligans Island Resort, Camp Clearwater Family Campground, and Sandy Ridge Campground and RV Resort all sit within a short drive of the lake and cater to RV travelers with hookup sites, swim access, and family amenities.
For a quieter, more natural setting, Jones Lake State Park lies just north of Elizabethtown and offers state-run RV camping inside a protected Carolina bay ecosystem.
Things to do near Clinton
White Lake is the main draw for families. Its sandy bottom and shallow entry make it a popular swimming and paddling destination, and the campgrounds ringing the lake typically include beach access, boat rentals, and lakeside recreation. Gilligans Island Resort and Camp Clearwater Family Campground both put visitors close to the water and to the small commercial strip of restaurants and arcades along the lakefront.
At Jones Lake State Park, the Bay Trail loops the lake and passes through pocosin and bay forest habitat, and rangers run environmental programs through the warm season. Boating is limited to small electric motors, which keeps the lake calm for canoes, kayaks, and paddleboats rented at the park concession. Anglers can fish for bass, perch, and catfish with a valid North Carolina fishing license.

The Clinton area has a humid subtropical climate with a long warm season. RV travel is comfortable from mid-spring through late fall, with the private White Lake campgrounds running their busiest operations between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Some private lake resorts scale back services or close pool and beach facilities outside the summer window, so confirm amenities before booking shoulder-season trips.
Summer brings the highest temperatures, highest humidity, and the wettest weather, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms and tropical moisture pushing rainfall totals up. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November and peaks in September, and inland Sampson and Bladen counties can see wind and flooding impacts from tropical systems tracking up from the coast.
Jones Lake State Park keeps its family campground open year-round, though the swim beach and boat rentals operate seasonally from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Winter is mild but damp, with occasional freezes. Spring and fall generally offer the most reliable weather for RV trips.

How to book
Reservations at Jones Lake State Park are handled through the North Carolina State Parks reservation system on ReserveAmerica. Sites can be booked up to six months in advance, and reservations must be made at least one day ahead of arrival. The family campground has 20 sites, six of them with full RV hookups for electric, water, and sewer, and two ADA-accessible sites. Sites left unreserved on the day of arrival are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Private campgrounds around White Lake, including White Lake Motel and Campground, Gilligans Island Resort, Camp Clearwater Family Campground, and Sandy Ridge Campground and RV Resort, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Holiday weekends and July fill earliest, so book several weeks out for peak dates.
What to expect
Expect flat, easy driving on rural two-lane highways connecting Clinton to the White Lake and Elizabethtown campgrounds. Roads are generally suitable for larger rigs, but a few park entrance roads narrow near the sites, so check ahead if towing a long trailer.
At Jones Lake State Park, each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and paved parking spur, and the bathhouse sits in the center of the camping loop. Check-in is 3 p.m. and check-out is noon. Maximum vehicle length is 50 feet, with a two-vehicle limit per site. Leashed pets are allowed in the campground. Cell service is reported as fair in the park.
Private White Lake campgrounds tend to lean family-oriented, with playgrounds, arcades, and organized weekend activities in summer.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Clinton, NC
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Clinton, NC?
RV rental in Clinton, NC is one of the more budget-friendly options in eastern North Carolina, with travel trailers often starting around $80 to $125 per night and Class C motorhomes typically ranging from $175 to $275 per night. Pricing depends on the RV type, age, and season, with summer weekends being the priciest. To score a cheap RV rental in Clinton, book midweek, aim for shoulder seasons like late March or October, and look for travel trailers where the host offers delivery so you skip the tow vehicle entirely. Use the price filter on RVezy and message hosts directly about multi-night discounts. Pro tip: pairing a Sunday-to-Thursday booking with a nearby campground at White Lake can cut your total trip cost significantly.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Clinton,%20North%20CarolinaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Clinton, NC?
Good news: a regular North Carolina driver's license (or any valid US/Canadian license) is all you need to rent an RV in Clinton, NC. There's no Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement required for personal-use motorhomes and travel trailers in North Carolina, even larger Class A coaches. The only RVezy requirement is that you're 25 or older with a valid license, and ID verification happens quickly through the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the US? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto club before you fly in, usually under $20. Most first-timers are surprised how straightforward it is, you book, verify, and you're cleared to hit US-421 toward your campground.
ncdot.gov/dmv/license-id/driver-licenses/Pages/default.aspxIs my RV rental in Clinton protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RV rental in Clinton booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can drive toward the Cape Fear River or the coast knowing you are covered. You choose your coverage level during checkout, not the host, so you decide how much peace of mind you want. Protection plans cover damage to the RV based on the tier you select, and roadside assistance handles flat tires, lockouts, jump-starts, and tows. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers during booking and pick the one that matches your comfort level, especially if it is your first time renting an RV.

Booking an RV in Clinton, NC is low-risk because RVezy, not the host, manages cancellations through a clear, platform-wide policy that includes a money-back grace period right after you book. That means if your plans for visiting the Sampson County History Museum or White Lake change shortly after booking, you have a window to cancel for a full refund. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy provides a refund or travel credit so your trip is protected. Pro tip: book earlier rather than later, since the grace-period window starts the moment you book, giving you more flexibility while you finalize campground reservations and time off work.

Bring proof of vaccinations, a 6-foot leash (required at all NC state parks), and waste bags. Pro tip: stretch your pup's legs at a local park in Clinton before a longer drive toward the Outer Banks.
ncparks.gov/state-parksCan the RV be delivered to my campground in Clinton?
Yes, RV delivery in Clinton is one of the smartest ways to start a trip, especially if you are new to RVing or do not want to tow. Many RVezy hosts in the Clinton and greater Sampson County area will deliver the motorhome or travel trailer right to your campsite at places like White Lake area campgrounds, then handle setup, leveling, and a full walkthrough. Delivery fees typically scale with distance, so a local drop at a Sampson County site costs less than a haul to the coast. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts offering this. Pro tip: ask the host to include a propane top-off and fresh-water fill so you arrive ready to relax.

weather.gov/rah/I've never rented an RV before, how does pickup work in Clinton?
First time renting an RV? You are in good hands. On RVezy, your Clinton host meets you at pickup (or at your campsite if they are delivering), walks you through every system, water, propane, electrical hookups, slide-outs, the awning, the toilet, the generator, and answers every question before you drive off. Most orientations take 30 to 60 minutes, and hosts share their cell number for trip-long support. You can also message any host through the listing before booking with questions about driving the rig or backing it in. Pro tip: do your walkthrough in daylight, take short videos of the host's instructions, and plan a low-stress first leg, even a quick run to a Sampson County campground is a great confidence-builder.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I have a breakdown during my Clinton, NC RV trip?
You are never stranded. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so a flat tire on I-40 outside Clinton, a dead battery at White Lake, or a tow from US-421 is one phone call away. The roadside team can dispatch tire service, jump-starts, fuel delivery, lockout help, and towing to a qualified service center. Your host is also a quick text away for questions about systems quirks, and RVezy customer support is available throughout your trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number and your host's number in your phone before pickup, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate so you can share details fast if you ever need help on the road.

Yes, most RVezy hosts in Clinton are happy with interstate travel, popular routes include rolling south on I-95 to Myrtle Beach (about 2 hours), east on US-70 to the Crystal Coast, or north toward Virginia Beach (about 4 hours). Cross-border trips to Canada may be allowed depending on the host and the protection plan selected, so message the host directly through the listing before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because protection coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: if you are planning a multi-state road trip from Clinton, mention your full itinerary up front, hosts often have route tips and can recommend the right mileage package.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat does fuel cost for an RV trip from Clinton, NC?
Budgeting for fuel is one of the biggest questions on any motorhome rental Clinton NC trip. Expect roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG) for a Class A or Class C motorhome, 12 to 18 MPG towing a travel trailer, and 18 to 22 MPG for a Class B campervan. Gas prices in Sampson County typically run a few cents below the national average, and you'll find big-rig-friendly stations along US-421 and I-40. For a 300-mile round trip to the Outer Banks in a Class C at ~$3.20/gallon, plan roughly $100 to $120 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at Pilot or Flying J stations near I-95 exits, easy access, high canopies, and consistent pricing.

Payment for your RV rental in North Carolina runs securely through RVezy, never directly to the host, so your money is protected from booking to pickup. To avoid any deposit issues, take time-stamped photos of the interior and exterior at pickup and again at drop-off. Pro tip: top off the fuel and propane near the host's address before returning, this is the most common deposit deduction and is easy to avoid.

Clinton is a fantastic launchpad for a family RV trip, central enough to reach the coast, the capital, and the Sandhills all within 90 minutes, but quiet enough for a relaxing home base. Family-friendly stops include Hubb's Farm on US-421 (corn mazes, animal encounters, and seasonal events), the Sampson County History Museum's village of restored historic buildings, and a short drive south to White Lake for swimming and paddling. With an RV rental in Clinton, you can take your time exploring, then return to a comfortable basecamp each night. Pro tip: look for RVs with bunks or a convertible dinette to maximize sleeping space for kids, and ask hosts about kid-friendly add-ons like outdoor games or bikes.
