Campgrounds and RV parks near Governors Village, NC

Governors Village is a census-designated place in Chatham County, North Carolina, with a Chapel Hill address, sitting minutes from the eastern shore of Jordan Lake. For RV travelers, the practical draw is proximity: the closest campgrounds are inside Jordan Lake State Recreation Area, located in Chatham County 30 miles west of downtown Raleigh, and most sites near Governors Village are a short drive across US 64 or NC 751. The three state-park campgrounds most useful to RV travelers are Parkers Creek, Crosswinds, and Poplar Point. Crosswinds offers 182 campsites for recreational vehicles, tent and trailer camping; 134 sites have electric and water hookups. Each site includes a picnic table, grill, and lantern holder. Poplar Point and Parkers Creek add hundreds more RV-friendly sites between them, with a mix of electric and water hookup loops and non-electric loops. Showers, restrooms, trash containers, and dump stations are available at the developed campgrounds. Triangle RV Park and Spring Hill Park serve as private-park alternatives for travelers who want a different setting outside the state-park system.

State-park sites at Parkers Creek, Crosswinds, and Poplar Point are reserved through the North Carolina State Parks reservation system on ReserveAmerica. Reservations must be made 1 day ahead of arrival and can be made up to 6 months in advance. There is a 14 day maximum within a 30 day period. Once the 14-day limit is reached campers must vacate the park before returning. Not every loop takes reservations. Loops 3 and 4 at Parkers Creek and Loop E at Poplar Point are all walk-up campsites that are available on a first-come, first-served basis. These sites are not available for advance reservation and can be booked only when you arrive at the campground. Triangle RV Park and Spring Hill Park book directly through their operators; call ahead in summer, when sites fill weeks out.
