Campgrounds and RV parks near Northwest, NC

Northwest is a small town in Brunswick County, North Carolina, located near the northernmost point of the county along U.S. Routes 74 and 76, roughly 13 miles west of Wilmington. It sits within the Wilmington metropolitan area and serves as a quiet inland base for RV travelers heading to the Cape Fear coast, Oak Island, and the beaches of southeastern North Carolina. The area works well for travelers who want to avoid the density of oceanfront parks while staying within a short drive of both Wilmington and Brunswick County's south-facing beaches. Options within roughly 30 to 45 minutes include Horses To Harleys Campground, Wilmington KOA Holiday, Snow's Cut RV Retreat, Winner's RV Park, and Oak Island Campground. Campgrounds in this corner of North Carolina range from wooded private parks with full hookups to state-park sites near the Intracoastal Waterway. The region is flat, humid, and heavily forested with longleaf pine, live oak, and cypress, which shapes site character: shaded pads, sandy soil, and easy road access from U.S. 17, U.S. 74/76, and I-140.

Private campgrounds in the Wilmington and Brunswick County area, including Horses To Harleys Campground, Wilmington KOA Holiday, Snow's Cut RV Retreat, Winner's RV Park, and Oak Island Campground, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Summer weekends, holiday weekends, and the weeks around Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day fill earliest, often several months out. Carolina Beach State Park, the closest state-run campground with RV hookups, uses the North Carolina State Parks reservation system. Sites can be booked up to six months in advance, and full-hookup sites are limited to ten pads, so booking as soon as the window opens is recommended. Two-night minimums may apply on major holiday weekends, and cabin cancellations must be made at least 14 days before arrival to be eligible for any refund.
