Campgrounds and RV parks near Bridgeport, OH

Water and trails dominate the local activity list. Barkcamp State Park offers boating with electric motors only, kayaks are available for rent, and the park also offers swimming, fishing, hunting, picnicking, and hiking. Belmont Lake is stocked with several species including largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie and catfish, and a walk-through archery range and an 18-hole miniature golf course keep families busy on-site. Across the river, Grand Vue Park features hiking and nature trails and a playground, along with zip lines, disc golf, a pool, and cabins, with paid activity access for RV guests. The park is within easy reach of the Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex and the West Virginia Penitentiary in Moundsville, plus downtown Wheeling for restaurants, riverfront parks, and Oglebay. In fall, Barkcamp hosts a September Cast-iron Cooking Festival and a Fall Festival in October which includes a hay wagon ride, pumpkin carving, and art and food vendors.

The primary RV season runs from spring through fall. Late April through October brings the most reliable weather, the fullest campground services, and the widest choice of on-site amenities. Private operators like Grand Vue reflect this pattern, with the park open from April 1 to October 31 for its main season. Summer is peak. Weekends fill quickly at popular destinations, and the equestrian camping area at Barkcamp is most popular during the summer months, so if you are considering traveling during this time make sure to book a reservation prior to your arrival. Fall brings cooler nights, hardwood color across Belmont County, and harvest events at area parks. Hunters use designated zones at Barkcamp during the state hunting seasons, so campers should check park maps if hiking during those windows. Winter access is reduced but not closed. Barkcamp is open year-round, hot showers and the dump station are available during the main season but close during winter months, while electric service remains available year-round, and at Grand Vue, from December 1 to April 1, only one bathhouse is available and a limited number of sites are open for rental.

Terrain is hilly. Roads into the campgrounds wind through Appalachian foothills, and sites are often back-in on gravel or paved pads. At Barkcamp, each site features a fire ring, picnic table, and 10-foot-wide cement pad, with some sites accommodating rigs up to 80 feet in length, and all sites are back-in only. At Grand Vue, 40 spacious full hook-up sites are equipped with both 30 and 50-amp electric service, sewage, and water, and each back-in site accommodates RVs up to 50 feet in length, with the exception of Site 23, which is 38 feet. Cell coverage is generally reliable near Bridgeport and I-70 but can thin in the hollows around Barkcamp. Pet camping is permitted on designated sites at Barkcamp, so confirm loop eligibility when booking. Groceries, fuel, and RV supplies are easiest to source in St. Clairsville and Wheeling.
