Campgrounds and RV parks near Chesapeake, OH

Chesapeake sits on the Ohio River in Lawrence County, directly across from Huntington, West Virginia. The location puts RV travelers within a short drive of a dense cluster of camping options that straddle three states: southern Ohio, southwestern West Virginia, and northeastern Kentucky. Most nearby campgrounds are within thirty to forty miles, and the interstate corridor along I-64 makes access straightforward for larger rigs. The closest full-service public option is Beech Fork State Park, which offers 275 campsites in four distinct camping areas, with paved parking pads, grills, picnic tables, and fully equipped bathhouses. Private options round out the mix, including Huntington / Fox Fire KOA Holiday in Milton, The Falls Campground and Creekside Cabins and RV Park in Wayne County, and Ashland / Huntington West KOA Holiday on the Kentucky side. Together these campgrounds cover a range of styles, from lakefront state park sites suited to fishing and paddling to interstate-adjacent KOA properties built for overnight stops and family stays. Terrain is Appalachian foothills: wooded ridges, narrow hollows, and river bottoms.

Reservation systems vary by operator. West Virginia State Parks campsites, including Beech Fork, may be reserved online, by phone, or at the campground office, with a two-night minimum on Friday and Saturday and a one-night minimum Sunday through Thursday. There is a 14-night maximum stay, and checkout is 12:00 p.m. All Beech Fork campsites are reservable one year in advance. KOA properties, including Huntington / Fox Fire KOA Holiday and Ashland / Huntington West KOA Holiday, take reservations directly through the KOA website or by calling the park. The Falls Campground and Creekside Cabins and RV Park are smaller private operations; call ahead, especially for holiday weekends and shoulder-season stays when office hours may be limited.
