Camping near Delmont, Pennsylvania
Delmont sits in Westmoreland County about 25 miles east of Pittsburgh, at the western edge of the Laurel Highlands. The borough works well as a base for RV renters who want quick access to the Pittsburgh metro area while still camping in a rural, wooded setting. US 22 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76) both pass close by, making it easy to reach campgrounds from any direction.
The area's best-known public campground is Lakeside - Keystone State Park, a Pennsylvania state park campground on Keystone Lake in nearby Derry Township. Private options include Fox Den Acres Campgrounds, Madison/Pittsburgh SE KOA Journey, Mountain Top Campground, and Wallace Trailer Sales and Court, which together cover a range of hookup levels, park layouts, and price points.
Most travelers use Delmont as a stopover on longer trips or as a weekend destination for lake time, hiking, and day trips into Pittsburgh, Ligonier, and the Laurel Highlands.
Things to do around Delmont
Keystone State Park anchors most outdoor plans in the area. The 1,200-acre park surrounds Keystone Lake, which supports fishing under Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission regulations, along with boating, a swim beach in season, and wildlife watching. Hiking on about eight miles of trails and biking the Lakeside Trail round out the on-park options.
Off the water, families use Delmont as a launch point for the Pittsburgh Zoo, Kennywood amusement park, and the Carnegie Science Center, all roughly 30 to 45 minutes west. Ligonier, Fort Ligonier, and Idlewild & SoakZone sit about 30 minutes east along US 30.
In winter, park trails are used for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, extending the season for cabin renters and cold-weather RVers.

The main RV camping season around Delmont runs from spring through mid-fall. At Keystone State Park, about 100 tent and trailer sites are available from early April to mid-October, while the park's 11 modern cabins are open year round. Private parks in the area generally follow a similar April-to-October window, though a few stay open longer for self-contained rigs.
Late spring and early summer bring reliable warmth, longer days, and green forest. July and August are the busiest months, with peak weekends at Keystone booking out well in advance. September and early October usually offer the best combination of cool nights, dry weather, and fall color across the Laurel Highlands.
Shower facilities may not be available after October 1 at Keystone, so late-season campers should plan for onboard water and heat. Winter travel is possible but limited to hardier RVers and cabin renters.

Dan’s camper was perfect for our weekend camping trip. It was clean, organized, and fit our family of 4 with plenty of room. Dan was very helpful at pick up and drop off getting everything hooked up and offloaded.

How to book a site
Pennsylvania State Parks accept online reservations for day use and overnight facilities, or by calling toll-free 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Saturday. Lakeside - Keystone State Park is booked through this system. Reservations must be made three days ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance, so summer weekends should be locked in early.
When reserving at Keystone, campers can choose between the Hillside Loop, which allows pets, or the Lakeside Loop next to the water. Private options such as Fox Den Acres Campgrounds, Madison/Pittsburgh SE KOA Journey, Mountain Top Campground, and Wallace Trailer Sales and Court are booked directly with each park by phone or through their own websites.
What to expect on arrival
Sites in the Delmont area range from full-hookup RV pads at private parks to more basic state-park loops. At Keystone, sites offer 30 or 50 amp electric hookups, though water hookups are not at the site; water faucets are distributed through the campground. Both Keystone campgrounds have a modern bathhouse, and a sanitary dump station is available.
Cell service is unpredictable in and around many Pennsylvania State Parks, so downloading the park map before arrival is recommended. Terrain in the region is rolling rather than mountainous, and most access roads handle larger rigs without issue.
To help protect the forest from invasive insects such as the emerald ash borer, campers should not transport firewood over long distances and should use local firewood, burning all of it before departure.
