Campgrounds and RV parks near Export, PA

Keystone State Park is the main outdoor draw. The 1,200-acre park has multiple hiking trails, including the partially accessible two-mile Lakeside Loop that circles the 78-acre lake, plus a swimming beach, boating, and warm and cold water fishing. Within the local campgrounds themselves, families have plenty to keep kids occupied. Fox Den Acres Campgrounds includes a swimming pool, kiddie pool, playground, game room, two small lakes for fishing, and organized activities such as bingo, crafts for kids, and Christmas in July. Madison/Pittsburgh SE KOA Journey offers a pool, a fishing pond, and lawn games. Day trips from Export reach downtown Pittsburgh, Idlewild and Kennywood amusement parks, and Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater in the Laurel Highlands.

The camping season in western Pennsylvania is tightly tied to weather. Keystone State Park's Lakeside and Hillside campgrounds operate from the first Friday in April to the third Sunday of October, with about 100 tent and trailer sites split between the two loops and modern bathhouses at each. Shower facilities may not be available after October 1, though the eleven modern cabins at Keystone rent year-round. Fox Den Acres runs from May 1 through October 31. Summer weekends and holidays are the busiest periods, and lakefront and full-hookup sites go quickly. Spring and fall bring milder temperatures and lighter crowds, though nights can drop near freezing in April and late October. Fall foliage in the Laurel Highlands typically peaks in mid-October. Winter is harsh in this part of Pennsylvania. Most tent and RV loops close, snowfall averages more than 40 inches per year in the Pittsburgh area, and only year-round cabins and a limited number of private-park sites remain open. Renters traveling in winter should confirm road access and hookup availability before booking.

Keystone State Park's Lakeside Campground sits next to the lake, while Hillside is set in a more remote part of the park and accepts pets. Both loops have modern bathhouses and share a sanitary dump station. Sites offer 30 or 50-amp electric hookups, though there are no water hookups at individual sites; water faucets are located throughout the campground. Private parks are set up for larger rigs. Fox Den Acres provides more than 100 pull-through sites with full hookups, a store, propane, laundry, and a swimming pool. Madison/Pittsburgh SE KOA Journey offers 30 and 50 amp service, sewer hookups, WiFi, and a general store. Cell service can be spotty in and around Pennsylvania state parks, so downloading park maps before arrival is a good idea. Firewood should be sourced locally to help slow the spread of emerald ash borer.
