Campgrounds near Farmington, Pennsylvania
Farmington sits in Fayette County in the Laurel Highlands of southwestern Pennsylvania, minutes from the Youghiogheny River gorge and the whitewater town of Ohiopyle. The area draws RV travelers heading for river recreation, the Great Allegheny Passage rail-trail, and Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob, both a short drive from most campgrounds.
Options range from full-hookup private parks to a large state-run campground. Kentuck Campground inside Ohiopyle State Park offers 200 campsites with flush toilets, warm showers, picnic tables, fire rings, and some electric hookups, plus yurts and cottages, along with a sanitary dump station and shower houses. Private choices include Tall Oaks Campground, Benner's Meadow Run Camping and Cabins, and Scarlett Knob Campground Inc, all within easy reach of the park entrance. Yough Lake Campground at Tub Run sits on the Youghiogheny River Lake, a reservoir managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and offers full-hookup, lakefront, and walk-to sites, suiting travelers focused on flatwater boating and fishing.
Most visitors base themselves near Ohiopyle and use Farmington and Uniontown for groceries, fuel, and dump-station backup.
Things to do in Farmington
Natural waterslides, Cucumber Falls, and extensive hiking trails draw visitors year-round, though cell service varies by carrier. The Youghiogheny River offers guided and self-guided whitewater rafting through commercial outfitters in Ohiopyle village, plus calmer float sections upriver from Confluence.
Cyclists ride the Great Allegheny Passage, which runs directly through Ohiopyle on its way from Pittsburgh to Cumberland, Maryland. Ohiopyle serves as the southern terminus for the 70-mile Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail, which traverses the Laurel Ridge north toward Johnstown and is open for hiking and backpacking year round.
Off-park stops include Fallingwater, Kentuck Knob, Fort Necessity National Battlefield, and Nemacolin Resort's public dining. Anglers and paddlers can head to Youghiogheny River Lake for smallmouth bass and walleye fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding.

The main camping season runs spring through late fall. Camping is seasonal at Ohiopyle, and Kentuck Campground opens from April through mid-December. Private parks in the area typically follow a similar April-to-October window, with a few offering shoulder-season stays for hunters and leaf-peepers.
Spring brings high water on the Youghiogheny and prime whitewater conditions, along with wildflowers and cool nights. The main whitewater rafting season is April to October, and summer is peak: sites book out weeks ahead for weekends, and the village of Ohiopyle fills with rafters, cyclists, and day-trippers. Fall foliage in the Laurel Ridge typically peaks in mid-October and is one of the busiest booking windows of the year.
Winter is quiet. State-park camping closes by mid-December, and while trails remain open for hiking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing, RV services in the immediate area are limited until spring reopening.
How to book campgrounds near Farmington
Reservations for Ohiopyle State Park are made through the Pennsylvania State Parks system on ReserveAmerica. Reservations must be made 3 days ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance, so popular summer weekends and fall foliage dates should be booked as early as possible.
Private campgrounds including Tall Oaks Campground, Benner's Meadow Run Camping and Cabins, and Scarlett Knob Campground Inc take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Yough Lake Campground at Tub Run is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and uses the federal Recreation.gov system.
Check-in at Ohiopyle is 3:00 PM and check-out is 10:00 AM. Confirm RV length limits and hookup type with each park before booking.
What to expect at Farmington campgrounds
The terrain is hilly and wooded, and access roads can be steep. SR 2019 is very steep, and large RVs should avoid this road and take PA 40 to SR 2010 (Chalk Hill-Ohiopyle Rd.), follow it for eight miles to a stop sign, then continue straight to the campground. Plan routes in advance if towing a larger trailer.
Expect a mix of shaded and open sites, gravel pads, and variable cell coverage. Kentuck operates an honor-system firewood and ice station, accepts cash payments, and enforces quiet hours from 9 PM to 8 AM. The spotted lanternfly is an invasive pest in Pennsylvania, so campers are asked to inspect vehicles and gear before leaving.
Bears are present in the Laurel Highlands; store food in hard-sided vehicles and use provided fire rings.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Farmington, PA
How much does an RV rental in Farmington cost, and how can I save?
RV rental in Farmington is an affordable alternative to nearby resort stays. On RVezy, travel trailers in the Laurel Highlands typically run about $90 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes range from about $175 to $295, and larger Class A rigs sit around $250 to $450. Booking midweek or in shoulder season (late April or October for fall foliage) is a smart way to find a cheaper RV rental in Farmington. Pro tip: filter for delivery and have the host drop the RV at Benner's Meadow Run or Kentuck Campground so you skip the towing learning curve and start your Ohiopyle adventure faster.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Farmington,PennsylvaniaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Farmington, PA?
For nearly every RV you'll rent in Farmington, your regular driver's license is all you need. Pennsylvania only requires a non-commercial Class A or B license for vehicles over 26,000 pounds, and the vast majority of motorhomes, campervans, and travel trailers on RVezy fall well under that limit. Approved drivers on RVezy are generally 25 or older, and your ID is verified through the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home license. Most first-time renters are surprised by how simple it is to get on the road toward Ohiopyle.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs the rental protected if something goes wrong on my Laurel Highlands trip?
Yes. Every RV rental in Farmington PA booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can focus on Fallingwater tours and Youghiogheny River rafting. During checkout, you'll choose your level of protection, which helps cover accidental damage to the vehicle based on the plan you select. Roadside help is one phone call away if you get a flat on the Chestnut Ridge or need a battery jump at your campsite, which is reassuring on twisty mountain roads like PA Route 381 toward Mill Run. Book confidently and enjoy the Laurel Highlands.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Farmington RV booking?
Booking is low risk. RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not the host), and refund eligibility depends on how far in advance you cancel relative to your trip start. That flexibility matters in the Laurel Highlands, where late-spring storms or early snow on Summit Mountain can shift plans. If you need to make a change, contact RVezy support and they'll walk you through your options. Review the official cancellation policy before booking your Farmington RV rental so you know exactly what to expect.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Farmington RV trip?
Yes, plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rentals in Farmington, so bringing your pup is easy. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see listings that welcome four-legged co-pilots. Ohiopyle State Park allows leashed pets on most trails and in designated camping loops at Kentuck Campground, and the Great Allegheny Passage is a dream for trail walks. Benner's Meadow Run Campground in Farmington also welcomes dogs. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and any breed considerations, then pack a long lead for waterfall stops at Cucumber Falls.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/ohiopyle-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Farmington?
Yes, RV delivery in Farmington is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who'd rather skip driving a big rig over Chestnut Ridge. Many local hosts deliver and set up your motorhome or travel trailer directly at Kentuck Campground in Ohiopyle State Park, Benner's Meadow Run, Tall Oaks Campground, or a private property near Farmington. They handle leveling, hookups, and a full walkthrough of slide-outs, water, and propane. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy and message the host with your campsite number. Pro tip: ask about delivery fees up front so they can be added to your quote.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Farmington,PennsylvaniaHow far can I drive on a Farmington RV trip?
You can cover a lot of beautiful ground from Farmington. Pittsburgh is roughly 70 miles (about 90 minutes) northwest, Morgantown, WV is about 40 miles south, Deep Creek Lake in Maryland sits around 35 miles southeast, and Seven Springs Mountain Resort is roughly 25 miles north. Many hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night and charge a modest per-mile rate after that, while some offer RV rentals with unlimited mileage for longer Laurel Highlands road trips. Always check the mileage policy on the listing and message the host if you're planning a bigger loop like a Farmington to Cumberland MD trip along the National Road.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Farmington,PennsylvaniaWhere are the best campgrounds near Farmington?
You're spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Farmington include Kentuck Campground inside Ohiopyle State Park (with tent and RV sites, plus yurts and cottages), Benner's Meadow Run Camping and Cabins (full hookups, pool, and family amenities), Tall Oaks Campground on wooded acreage near Ohiopyle, Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Mill Run, and Scarlet Knob Campground along the Youghiogheny. Kentuck books up fast because it's close to Fallingwater, Cucumber Falls, and the Great Allegheny Passage. Pro tip: in a large rig, take PA 40 to Chalk Hill-Ohiopyle Road instead of steeper backroads into Ohiopyle.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/ohiopyle-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip in Farmington?
Late May through mid-October is prime time for RV camping in Farmington, with the sweet spot being late September through mid-October when Laurel Highlands fall foliage peaks. Summer days typically run in the upper 70s to mid-80s F, perfect for whitewater rafting the Lower Yough, while spring (April to early May) brings full waterfalls at Cucumber Falls and lively river flows from snowmelt. Winters can drop into the teens and 20s F with real snowfall, but adventurous renters can still enjoy a Farmington RV trip near Seven Springs or Hidden Valley ski resorts if the host offers a winter-ready rig. Book fall weekends several months in advance.
weather.gov/ctp/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
You've got this, and you're not on your own. First time renting an RV in Farmington means your host meets you at pickup (or at your campsite if you choose delivery) for a hands-on walkthrough of every system: propane, water, generator, slide-outs, leveling, and dump procedures. Many hosts also share a printed guide or video. RVezy support is available to help, and 24/7 roadside assistance is included with your protection plan. Pro tip: start with a Class C motorhome or travel trailer under 25 feet for easier handling on winding roads like PA 381 to Mill Run, and book two nights at Kentuck Campground so day one is just practice and s'mores.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I break down or have trouble on the road?
You're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance with your protection plan, so a flat tire on US Route 40, a dead battery near Fort Necessity National Battlefield, or a tow near Laurel Caverns is just one phone call away. Help is dispatched to your location along your route, including remote stretches of PA 381 or the National Road. For mechanical questions, your host is also a quick message away on the RVezy app. Save the RVezy support number to your phone before you leave, and screenshot your reservation, because cell service can be spotty inside Ohiopyle State Park.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are popular road trip routes from Farmington?
An RV road trip from Farmington opens up the entire Mid-Atlantic. Three popular loops: the Frank Lloyd Wright trio (Fallingwater, Kentuck Knob, and Polymath Park, all within about 20 miles), the National Road heritage drive east along US 40 through Cumberland, MD toward Frederick (about 130 miles), and the Pittsburgh and Three Rivers route northwest (about 70 miles) for ballgames and riverfront parks. Many travelers continue on to Deep Creek Lake, MD or Seneca Rocks, WV. Cross-border RV trips into Canada may be allowed with host approval, but Mexico travel is not permitted on RVezy bookings. Pro tip: tag a Laurel Caverns cave tour onto your itinerary, it's a short drive from Farmington.
nps.gov/fone/index.htmHow much should I budget for fuel on a Farmington RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable in your trip budget, so plan smart. Class C motorhomes average about 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class A rigs around 6 to 10, campervans (Class B) about 14 to 20, and a truck towing a travel trailer typically gets 10 to 14 MPG. Pennsylvania gas prices generally hover in the mid-$3 per gallon range, with diesel a bit higher. For a 300-mile loop around the Laurel Highlands, budget roughly $90 to $150 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Uniontown or Connellsville before heading into Ohiopyle, where stations are sparse and often pricier.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Farmington?
Book as early as you can, especially for Kentuck Campground in Ohiopyle State Park, which opens reservations up to 11 months in advance through the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system. Summer weekends, October fall foliage weekends, and Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day holidays sell out quickly. Private campgrounds like Benner's Meadow Run and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park typically book up 2 to 4 months ahead for peak dates. Pro tip: target Sunday-through-Thursday nights for easier reservations and quieter campsites, and watch for cancellations to snag last-minute openings.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/what-to-do/stay-overnight.htmlWhat are driving conditions like around Farmington?
Driving around Farmington is scenic but mountainous, so plan smart. US 40 (the historic National Road) climbs Summit Mountain with steep grades, and PA 381 to Mill Run and Ohiopyle winds tightly through forested gorges. In a large RV, favor PA 40 to Chalk Hill-Ohiopyle Road over steeper backroads down into Ohiopyle. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk, especially near Fort Necessity, and check forecasts in winter when Laurel Ridge can pick up heavy snow even when it's clear in Pittsburgh. Pro tip: drive in daylight your first day and use pullouts to let faster traffic pass.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxWhat amenities will I find at local campgrounds?
You'll be well taken care of. Kentuck Campground at Ohiopyle State Park offers flush toilets, hot showers, picnic tables, fire rings, electric hookups at many sites, and a sanitary dump station. Benner's Meadow Run adds full water, electric, and sewer hookups, a pool, laundry, and a camp store. Most private parks near Farmington offer 30 and 50-amp service, potable water fills, and on-site propane refills. Dump stations are available in Ohiopyle and Uniontown. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose, a sewer hose with elbow, and a surge protector, those three items handle most hookup situations in the Laurel Highlands.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/ohiopyle-state-parkWhat's included inside the RV itself?
More than you'd expect. Most motorhome rentals in Farmington come fully equipped with a queen or king bed, bunks or convertible dinettes for the kids, a full kitchen (stove, oven, microwave, fridge), a bathroom with shower, heat, air conditioning, and seatbelts for travel. Many include a generator for off-grid stays, a TV, and sometimes Wi-Fi hotspots. Campervan rentals in Farmington are more compact but cleverly designed for couples. Hosts often add linens, kitchen kits, and outdoor chairs (sometimes free, sometimes a small fee). Check the listing's amenities section, and message the host if you need a specific item like a coffee maker or a Pack 'n Play.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Farmington,PennsylvaniaWhat add-ons and pickup options do hosts offer?
Hosts in Farmington make trip planning easy. Common add-ons include linen and towel packages, kitchen kits, camping chairs and tables, generators, propane fire pits, bike racks, and sometimes kayaks (handy since you're close to the Youghiogheny). Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Farmington, Uniontown, or Connellsville, with delivery available to Kentuck Campground, Benner's Meadow Run, or your private property in the Laurel Highlands. Mileage policies typically allow 100 to 150 free miles per night, with some listings offering unlimited mileage for longer routes. Pro tip: book the generator add-on if you plan to camp anywhere without electric hookups.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Farmington,PennsylvaniaHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book your motorhome rental in Farmington on RVezy, your card is charged through the platform, never directly to the host, so everything is documented and protected. Hosts may request a refundable security deposit, which is held separately from the booking payment and released after a successful return with no damage. To avoid issues: complete the walkthrough at pickup, photograph any pre-existing scratches, return the RV with the fuel level and tanks as agreed, and keep receipts. Most renters receive their full deposit back shortly after returning the RV.
