Campgrounds and RV parks near Leechburg, PA

Water activities dominate. Crooked Creek Lake has a boat launch, a sandy peninsula beach, and fishing for bass, muskie, sunfish, and crappie, plus a nine-hole disc golf course near the Justice Pavilion. Keystone State Park adds a 78-acre lake with warm and cold water fishing, a swim beach, and non-motorized or electric-only boating. On land, the Armstrong Trails system runs along the Allegheny River and is open to walking, running, cycling, and geocaching. The long-distance Baker Trail, roughly 141 miles, crosses Crooked Creek Lake on its way through western Pennsylvania. Keystone State Park has about eight miles of easy hiking trails through hardwoods, wetlands, and pine plantations, with a lake loop suitable for bikes.

The Leechburg area follows a humid continental pattern with four clear seasons. Summers are warm and often humid, with typical highs in the 80s Fahrenheit and afternoon thunderstorms that can produce heavy downpours. Winters are cold, with regular nights below freezing from November into April and periodic snow. The primary RV camping window runs roughly from mid-spring through fall. Crooked Creek Lake Campground, the closest Army Corps campground, operates seasonally from about mid-May through late September, with a 14-night stay limit inside any 30-day period. Keystone State Park keeps its campground and modern cabins open year-round, though beach and swimming access is tied to the summer season. July and August draw the heaviest demand and the strongest storm activity. Late spring and early fall usually offer milder temperatures, lower bug pressure, and better site availability. Note that Keystone Lake is scheduled for a multi-season drawdown for dredging, which will close the swim area for a full summer, while trails, campground, and cabins stay open.

Terrain around Leechburg is rolling and wooded, with river valleys cut into the plateau. Roads leading to campgrounds are often narrow two-lane routes with some steep grades, so RV renters driving larger Class A or Class C rigs should map the approach in advance. Site quality varies. Public campgrounds in the area tend to run to crushed-gravel or grassy pads with fire rings and picnic tables, modern bathhouses, and limited or no full hookups; at Crooked Creek Lake, a single water spigot serves the campground near the restrooms, and larger rigs may find maneuvering tight. Private parks in the list generally provide more hookup options and family amenities. Expect cell coverage to be spotty in wooded valleys, gated closures at some public campgrounds overnight, and standard Pennsylvania rules on quiet hours, pets in designated areas, and firewood transport.
