Campgrounds and RV parks near Lemont Furnace, PA

The Youghiogheny River is the main draw, with Class I to V whitewater that supports guided rafting and experienced private boaters. Launch times are handled on the day of launch at the Ohiopyle Visitor Center Launch Window for boaters with their own equipment, and an access fee applies on weekends and select holidays from the second weekend in April through the Sunday before Columbus Day. On land, roughly 79 miles of trails cross the park, and 27 miles of the Great Allegheny Passage run through it, doubling as a hiking and biking corridor between Pittsburgh and Cumberland. Families also visit Cucumber Falls, the Meadow Run natural waterslides, Fort Necessity National Battlefield, and Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob, all within a short drive of Lemont Furnace. Private parks add their own amenities, including pools, mini-golf, playgrounds, and organized weekend activities at properties like Benner's Meadow Run Camping and Cabins.

The main camping window in this part of the Laurel Highlands runs from mid-spring through early winter. Camping is seasonal at Ohiopyle State Park, with Kentuck Campground typically open from April through mid-December. The main whitewater rafting season runs April to October, and river-related services scale up and down with staffing, so travelers should confirm dates before arrival. Summer weekends are the busiest stretch. Millions of visitors come to Ohiopyle each year, and crowds concentrate at popular trails and viewpoints, with summer and holiday weekends the hardest to avoid. Private parks near Lemont Furnace typically run themed weekends, live music, and family events from Memorial Day through Labor Day, then quiet down through the fall foliage window. Winter is the shoulder season for RVers. Most private parks close or reduce services, state-park campgrounds shut down after mid-December, and mountain roads can be icy. The mountainous terrain drives rapid weather changes, so checking the forecast is important in every season.

Site types vary by park. State-park loops at Ohiopyle offer wooded sites, with electric available at some sites but water and sewer hookups generally not provided. Amenities include modern restrooms, warm showers, and a sanitary dump station on site. Private parks are geared toward RVs and families. Benner's Meadow Run offers a mix of water/electric and full-hookup sites with 20, 30, and 50 amp service, plus pools, playgrounds, mini-golf, and organized weekend activities. Expect a quieter, more rustic feel inside the state park. Rule differences matter. Alcohol is not permitted in Pennsylvania state parks. Pet policies vary by loop and cabin, so confirm before booking. Cell service and Wi-Fi are inconsistent in the gorge, so download maps and reservation details before arrival.
