Campgrounds and RV parks near Level Green, PA

Keystone State Park is the primary outdoor draw. The 1,200-acre park has a 78-acre lake with warm and cold water fishing, an ADA-accessible fishing area at the spillway, a swimming beach, and a boat launch. Trails include the Lake Side loop, Stone Lodge trail, and Davis Run route, open year-round for hiking and, in winter, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing when conditions allow. Beyond the park, families use the KOA Journey pool, catch-and-release fishing pond, and organized weekend events. The Great Allegheny Passage rail-trail is accessible from nearby West Newton, connecting Pittsburgh to Cumberland, Maryland, with bike rentals in the trail town. Downtown Pittsburgh sits about 20 miles west for museums, ballgames, and the incline railways.

Camping season in this part of Pennsylvania is anchored by the state park calendar. Keystone State Park's tent and trailer campground closes the third Sunday in October, and shower facilities may not be available after October 1. Fox Den Acres runs a similar window, open May 1 through October 31. Summer is the peak booking period. Lakeside sites at Keystone book earliest, and holiday weekends fill first. Note that Keystone Lake is scheduled to be drawn down after Labor Day of 2026 through mid-October of 2027 for dredging work, with the swimming area closed for the 2027 season; fishing and boating remain permitted, and all trails, campground, and cabins stay open. Mountain Top Campground operates on a longer schedule and can absorb shoulder-season travelers. Fall brings strong foliage color across the ridges and cooler nights, ideal for RV travel. Winter access is limited: Keystone's 11 modern cabins stay open year-round, but the tent and trailer loops close. Trails remain open for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing when conditions allow.

Terrain is rolling hills and mixed hardwood forest. Sites vary widely by park: Keystone offers electric and non-electric sites in both Lakeside and Hillside loops with modern bathhouses in each, plus a sanitary dump station. Mountain Top has all-gravel RV sites with 30 or 50 amp power, water and sewer at each site, and per the operator does not accept tents. Access roads to Mountain Top are winding and rural, and reviewers warn about a low bridge on one approach, so following the campground's own directions matters for larger rigs. Cell service inside Pennsylvania state parks can be inconsistent, so downloading maps before arrival is recommended. Use local firewood or buy on-site. Bringing firewood into Pennsylvania is prohibited due to invasive-insect concerns such as emerald ash borer, and all firewood must be burned before departure.
