Campgrounds near Murrysville, Pennsylvania
Murrysville sits in Westmoreland County east of Pittsburgh, in the Allegheny foothills of southwestern Pennsylvania. The area gives RV renters a suburban base with quick access to Pittsburgh attractions and the Laurel Highlands, plus a mix of private RV parks and a nearby Pennsylvania state park campground.
Close-in options include Wallace Trailer Sales and Court and Fox Den Acres Campgrounds for standard hookup sites, while Madison/Pittsburgh SE KOA Journey serves travelers coming off the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Mountain Top Campground adds a wooded private-park option a short drive from town.
For a public-land experience, Lakeside - Keystone State Park is the closest state park campground, set on Keystone Lake in Derry Township, and the 1,200-acre Keystone State Park is great for day-trips and family vacations year-round. Together these campgrounds cover most RV needs, from pull-through hookups near the highway to lakeside sites with swimming and boating.
Things to do near Murrysville
Murrysville itself offers local parks and trails, including the Murrysville Community Park and connections to the Westmoreland Heritage Trail, a rail-trail suitable for family cycling. Downtown Pittsburgh is about a 40-minute drive west, putting the zoo, science center, and Pirates and Steelers games within day-trip range.
Eastward, the Laurel Highlands hold Ohiopyle State Park, Fallingwater, and Idlewild and SoakZone, a family-friendly amusement park in Ligonier. At Keystone State Park, the Lakeside Campground places visitors steps from the lake for swimming, fishing, and boating, while Hillside Campground provides a quieter, more remote experience and is the designated area for campers with pets.
Close to town, RV renters can restock at full-service grocery and hardware stores along Route 22, which simplifies gear runs before heading to more remote sites in the Highlands.

Public campground seasons in this part of Pennsylvania are tied to the state park calendar. About 100 tent and trailer sites are available at Keystone State Park from early April to mid-October, and shower facilities may not be available after October 1. Private parks around Murrysville generally open earlier and close later, though hookups may be limited in shoulder months.
Summer is the busiest stretch, with warm days and lake activity at Keystone. Weekends and holidays fill first, so lakefront and full-hookup sites should be booked well ahead. Note that Keystone Lake is to be drawn down after Labor Day 2026 through mid-October 2027 for dredging, and the swimming area will be closed for the 2027 season.
Spring and fall bring cooler nights and quieter campgrounds, with fall color usually peaking in mid to late October. Winter RV travel is possible at select private parks but expect limited services and possible water shutoffs.

How to book campgrounds near Murrysville
Keystone State Park uses the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system. Reservations can be made using the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests Reservations website or by calling 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), Monday through Saturday, from 7:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. Reservations must be made 3 days ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance. Summer weekends and lakefront sites go quickly, so booking early in the window is advised.
Private campgrounds such as Madison/Pittsburgh SE KOA Journey, Fox Den Acres Campgrounds, Mountain Top Campground, and Wallace Trailer Sales and Court are booked directly through each park or through the KOA app for the KOA property. Confirm RV length, slide-out clearance, and hookup type when reserving, since older sites in the region were not all built for larger Class A rigs.
What to expect
Terrain around Murrysville is rolling and wooded, with narrow secondary roads leading to several campgrounds. Drivers of larger rentals should plan routes using RV-safe navigation, especially heading into the Laurel Highlands where grades and low bridges are common.
At Keystone State Park, both campgrounds include modern bathhouses with shower facilities and fire rings with grills at every site, and a sanitary dump station is available. ADA-accessible sites are available in both loops, with 50-amp electric hookups and paved driveways accommodating larger rigs up to 58 feet. Cell service can be spotty in the surrounding hills, so downloading maps before arrival is wise.
Black bears live in the surrounding forests, so food and trash should be stored securely. Firewood should be sourced locally to slow the spread of invasive insects like emerald ash borer.

On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes generally run $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A rigs sit higher. For a cheap RV rental in Murrysville, book midweek, target shoulder seasons like late April or mid October when fall foliage is gorgeous but prices dip, and look for weekly or monthly discounts that many local hosts offer. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Murrysville%2C%20PennsylvaniaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Murrysville, PA?
Good news: for nearly every RV rental in Murrysville, your regular Pennsylvania Class C driver's license (or the equivalent from your home state or country) is all you need. PennDOT only requires a Non Commercial Class A or Class B license when a motorhome exceeds 26,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), which is well above almost every Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, travel trailer, and fifth wheel on RVezy. You will need to be 25 or older to book, and RVezy verifies approved drivers on the platform. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you are set to roll.

After that window, the refund depends on how far in advance you cancel before your trip start date. The exact terms are shown during checkout and in your RVezy account so there are no surprises. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?
Realistic expectations make budgeting easy. Class B campervans get around 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes average 10 to 14 MPG, and Class A rigs typically run 7 to 10 MPG. Pennsylvania gas prices tend to sit near or slightly above the national average, so check current pump prices when planning your trip. For a 300 mile weekend loop through the Laurel Highlands in a Class C, expect roughly $80 to $120 in fuel at typical prices. Pro tip: fuel up at the Sheetz or GetGo stations along Route 22 before heading south on PA 381 toward Ohiopyle, prices often climb in the smaller mountain towns.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Murrysville?
For Pennsylvania state parks like Keystone, Ohiopyle, and Yellow Creek, you can book up to 12 months in advance on the official Pennsylvania state parks reservation site or by calling 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757). Summer holiday weekends and October foliage weekends sell out fast, so aim for at least three months ahead, and six months for fall color trips in the Laurel Highlands. Private campgrounds like Madison/Pittsburgh SE KOA and Mountain Top Campground also fill up for July 4th and Labor Day. Pro tip: weekday stays often have walk up availability even in summer, so a Tuesday to Thursday trip is a smart move.

A refundable security deposit is held on your card before the trip starts and released after the RV is returned in the same condition as pickup. The deposit amount varies by rig and is shown clearly before you confirm. Pro tip: do a quick walk around video with your host at both pickup and drop off in Murrysville, it is the easiest way to avoid any confusion about the deposit and start your trip with confidence.
