Campgrounds near New Stanton, Pennsylvania
New Stanton sits in Westmoreland County at the intersection of Interstate 70 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike, roughly 35 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. The location puts RV travelers within an easy drive of the Laurel Highlands, a region that stretches south and east toward Ohiopyle State Park, Fallingwater, and the Allegheny ridge system.
Campground options range from full-hookup commercial parks to state-park sites deeper in the mountains. Fox Den Acres Campgrounds and Madison/Pittsburgh SE KOA Journey are the closest full-service options, both offering pull-through sites and family amenities. The Blue Canoe RV Resort, Wallace Trailer Sales and Court, and Donegal Campground round out the immediate options and provide additional flexibility on weekends when Turnpike-adjacent parks fill quickly.
Most RV travelers use New Stanton as a staging point. It is close enough to Pittsburgh for a day trip, close enough to the mountains for hiking and whitewater, and located directly on major highway corridors, which simplifies arrival and departure logistics.
Things to do near New Stanton
Ohiopyle State Park is the region's main draw, covering roughly 20,500 acres along the Youghiogheny River Gorge with whitewater rafting, cycling on the Great Allegheny Passage, and the southern terminus of the 70-mile Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob, both Frank Lloyd Wright homes, are within about an hour of most local campgrounds.
Closer to New Stanton, families can visit Idlewild and SoakZone in Ligonier, the Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Greensburg, and Living Treasures Animal Park. Laurel Caverns offers guided tours of a large cave system, and Fort Necessity National Battlefield preserves the site of an early battle of the French and Indian War.
In winter, Seven Springs, Hidden Valley, and Laurel Mountain ski resorts are all within about an hour.

The camping season in the Laurel Highlands is shaped by elevation and freeze cycles. Kentuck Campground at Ohiopyle State Park operates from April through mid-December, which is representative of most state-park facilities in the region. Private parks near New Stanton typically open earlier and close later, with a few offering year-round sites for self-contained rigs.
Spring brings mountain laurel and rhododendron blooms in June, high water on the Youghiogheny, and the start of trout season. Summer is peak booking season: warm days, thunderstorms most afternoons, and the busiest weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day. Whitewater rafting on the Lower Yough generally runs April through October.
Fall is the strongest all-around window. Foliage typically peaks in mid-October across Laurel Ridge, humidity drops, and demand eases mid-week. Winter is cold and snowy at elevation, with ski traffic taking over as most state-park campgrounds close or reduce services.

How to book campsites near New Stanton
Pennsylvania state-park sites, including Ohiopyle, Laurel Hill, Laurel Ridge, and Linn Run, are reserved through the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests reservation system. Campsite reservations open 11 months in advance and must be made at least three days before arrival. Cottages and yurts follow the same window.
Private parks near New Stanton, including Fox Den Acres Campgrounds, Madison/Pittsburgh SE KOA Journey, The Blue Canoe RV Resort, Wallace Trailer Sales and Court, and Donegal Campground, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. KOA properties also accept bookings through the KOA app.
For summer weekends and fall-foliage weekends in October, book several months out. Mid-week stays and shoulder-season trips are usually available on shorter notice.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around New Stanton is rolling farmland transitioning into the wooded ridges of the Laurel Highlands. Sites at private parks close to town tend to be gravel pads with limited tree cover on pull-throughs and more shade on back-in sites. Amenities typically include pools, playgrounds, game rooms, and dump stations.
Cellular coverage is generally reliable near the Turnpike corridor and weaker inside the state parks, particularly in the Youghiogheny Gorge. Pennsylvania prohibits bringing outside firewood into state parks to slow the spread of invasive insects, so plan to buy local wood on arrival. Alcohol is not permitted in Pennsylvania state parks.
Black bears are present throughout the Laurel Highlands. Store food and trash in the RV or in provided lockers, and expect gnats and mosquitoes near water in early summer.

Booking is low risk: RVezy sets a clear cancellation policy for every reservation, including a money-back grace period right after you book so you're not locked in the moment you click confirm. You'll see the full terms before you pay, and if a host ever cancels on you, RVezy provides a refund or travel credit. Late May through mid-October is the sweet spot for RV camping in New Stanton, with the peak being late September through mid-October when the Laurel Highlands turn brilliant with fall color. Summer highs sit around 80 to 85 degrees F, evenings drop into the low 60s, and humidity is manageable compared to the coast. Spring (April to May) brings wildflowers and lower rates. Winter is genuinely cold (highs in the 30s, snow common) but Seven Springs and Hidden Valley ski resorts make a winterized RV rental a fun base camp. Pro tip: target the first two weekends of October for legendary foliage drives along Route 381 toward Ohiopyle.
weather.gov/pbz/I've never driven an RV. How do I feel confident on my first trip?
First time renting an RV? You're going to do great. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup covering how to level the rig, hook up water and electric, run the slide-outs, operate the propane and generator, and dump the tanks. You can message the host with questions before booking, and RVezy support is available to help throughout your trip. Around New Stanton, stick to flat routes like Route 119 north to Greensburg until you're comfortable, then graduate to the Turnpike. If you want zero driving stress, choose a host who offers delivery. Pro tip: start with a Class C motorhome or travel trailer rather than a 35-foot Class A.

You're covered: every booking on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you're parked at Fox Den Acres or pulled over on the PA Turnpike near the Donegal exit. Roadside assistance typically handles flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing. Your host is also a phone call away for any rig-specific questions (like how a slide-out retracts), and RVezy's support team helps coordinate. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before you leave the driveway and snap a photo of your rig's plate and VIN so you're never scrambling for details.

Fuel budgeting for your motorhome rental in New Stanton is easier than you'd think. Class B campervans average roughly 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes around 10 to 14 MPG, and Class A rigs around 7 to 10 MPG. Pennsylvania gas prices typically sit a bit above the national average due to state fuel taxes. For a 3-day trip with around 300 miles of driving in a Class C, plan for roughly $100 to $140 in fuel depending on current prices. Pro tip: fill up at the Sheetz or GetGo just off the New Stanton Turnpike exit before heading into the Laurel Highlands, prices often climb once you get into the mountains.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near New Stanton?
For the best campgrounds near New Stanton, book as early as you can. Pennsylvania state parks open reservations up to 12 months in advance through the official state park reservation system, and Ohiopyle's Kentuck Campground fills the day the window opens for summer weekends. For private parks like Fox Den Acres and Madison/Pittsburgh SE KOA, 2 to 3 months ahead is usually enough for summer Fridays and Saturdays. Midweek stays often have same-week availability. Pro tip: if your dates are locked, check back regularly for cancellations, sites along the river open up more often than you'd expect close to your travel date.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Reservations/Pages/default.aspxWhat are local driving conditions like around New Stanton?

The Turnpike is a toll road, so confirm with your host whether the RV has an E-ZPass transponder or whether you'll pay by license plate using Toll By Plate. Once you head east toward the Laurel Highlands, expect winding two-lane roads like Route 381 and Route 31 with steep grades near Ohiopyle and Seven Springs, take them slow and use lower gears. Winter brings snow and occasional black ice from December through March. Pro tip: avoid Pittsburgh's tunnels at rush hour and stick to the Turnpike bypass.

Yes, a winter RV rental in New Stanton is a great way to enjoy the Laurel Highlands' ski country without booking a pricey lodge. Several hosts list four-season rigs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and strong furnaces, ideal for Seven Springs (about 30 miles), Hidden Valley, and Laurel Mountain ski areas. Madison/Pittsburgh SE KOA stays open year-round with electric hookups so you can run a space heater alongside the furnace. Expect overnight lows from roughly 15 to 30 degrees F in December through February. Pro tip: ask the host for a heated water hose, keep gray and black tank valves closed until you're ready to dump, and pack extra propane so you stay toasty through the snowiest Pennsylvania weekends.
