Campgrounds and RV parks near Perryopolis, PA

Ohiopyle State Park is the dominant regional draw, covering roughly 20,500 acres of the Laurel Ridge and centered on the Youghiogheny River Gorge, which offers some of the best whitewater boating in the eastern United States. The park has extensive hiking trails and connects to the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail, and cyclists can pick up the Great Allegheny Passage a quarter mile from Kentuck Campground. Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob sit within a short drive, as does Fort Necessity National Battlefield. Cucumber Falls, the natural waterslides on Meadow Run, and Ohiopyle's rafting outfitters draw visitors through the warmer months, while the borough of Perryopolis itself has historic ties to George Washington, who once owned land locally.

Summer is peak season across the Laurel Highlands. Whitewater rafting season on the Youghiogheny River drives heavy demand at Ohiopyle State Park's Kentuck Campground from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and private RV parks fill quickly on holiday weekends. Daytime highs in July typically reach the low 80s Fahrenheit, and afternoon thunderstorms are common. Fall brings the region's second peak. October foliage weekends across the Laurel Highlands book out well in advance, and Pennsylvania state park campgrounds in the region fill for essentially every October weekend. Cooler nights make campfires comfortable, and river levels usually remain suitable for paddling into mid-fall. Kentuck Campground operates from April through mid-December, so winter camping in Ohiopyle is not available at the main campground, and most private RV parks in Fayette County close or reduce services from late fall through early spring. The park itself stays open for cross-country skiing and other cold-weather use. Spring is muddy but quiet, with wildflowers appearing along Ohiopyle's trails.

Terrain in the Perryopolis area is hilly, and access roads to Ohiopyle's Kentuck Campground include some very steep grades. DCNR specifically advises large RVs to avoid SR 2019 and instead take PA 40 to SR 2010 (Chalk Hill-Ohiopyle Road), following it about eight miles to the campground. Cell service is inconsistent inside the Youghiogheny River Gorge and varies by carrier. Pennsylvania state parks enforce quiet hours from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. at Kentuck, and alcohol is restricted. Pets are allowed only on designated loops such as Hickory and Ivy roads. Expect a mix of shaded, wooded sites at both public and private campgrounds. Kentuck offers electric hookups on many sites but no full hookups, along with flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station. Out-of-state firewood is prohibited in Pennsylvania, so campers should plan to buy local wood on site.
