Campgrounds and RV parks near Pleasant View, PA

The main outdoor draw within a half-hour drive is Keystone State Park, a 1,200-acre park centered on 78-acre Keystone Lake. The lake has warm and cold water fishing, and a fishing area by the spillway is ADA accessible. Fishing is prohibited at the beach, causeway, boat launch, and mooring areas. Non-powered and electric-powered boats must display a current registration or a launch permit from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. On land, the park offers a variety of trails open year-round for hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing, including the 1.4-mile Stone Lodge loop that winds through hardwoods up to ridge-top conifers. Ice fishing, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing are popular winter uses. The Allegheny River and nearby rail-trails add paddling and cycling options within a short drive of Pleasant View.

The main camping season across the region runs spring through mid-fall. Keystone State Park is open to camping from the first Friday in April to the third Sunday of October, with about 100 tent and RV sites split between the Lakeside and Hillside campgrounds. Hillside sits in a more remote area of the park and accommodates campers with pets, both campgrounds have a modern bathhouse, a sanitary dump station is available, and shower facilities may not be available after October 1. Summer is the peak. Boat rentals, the swim beach, and warm-weather programs run between Memorial Day and Labor Day, with lake-facing sites at Lakeside filling well in advance. Non-powered and electric boating remains popular into the shoulder season. RVers should note a multi-year lake project. Keystone Lake is to be drawn down after Labor Day 2026 through mid-October 2027 for dredging at the head end of the lake, the swimming area will be closed for the 2027 season, and fishing and boating will still be permitted, though the exposed silt lake bed can pose a hazard. All recreation trails, campground, and cabins will remain open.

Expect a rural, wooded western Pennsylvania setting with modest elevation changes and two-lane approach roads. Pleasant View itself is small, so plan on grocery and fuel stops in Vandergrift, Apollo, or other Kiski Valley towns before heading to camp. Cell service is unpredictable in and around many area state parks, so download park maps before arrival. Campground facilities vary. The Keystone campgrounds have modern bathhouses and a sanitary dump station, while smaller private parks in the area tend to be lower-key with fewer amenities but easier last-minute availability. To help protect the forest from invasive insects such as the emerald ash borer, campers should not transport firewood over long distances, and the use of local firewood is strongly recommended. Wildlife is common, mosquitoes and ticks are present in warmer months, and summer thunderstorms can move through quickly. Pack rain gear and leveling blocks.
