Camping near Rowes Run, Pennsylvania
Rowes Run sits in Redstone Township in northwestern Fayette County, Pennsylvania, an unincorporated community and census-designated place in the rolling farm-and-coal country south of Pittsburgh. Its population was 517 as of the 2020 census. The area places RV travelers within easy reach of the Laurel Highlands, the Youghiogheny River corridor, and the small towns strung along the Monongahela.
Campground options are spread across the surrounding hills rather than clustered in one park. The Blue Canoe RV Resort and Firehouse RV Campgrounds sit closest to town, while Madison/Pittsburgh SE KOA Journey works well for travelers who want a chain-brand stopover on the way toward Pittsburgh. Benner's Meadow Run Camping and Cabins and Fox Den Acres Campgrounds round out the mix with family-oriented sites farther out in the Laurel ridges.
Most visitors pair a private RV park stay with day trips into Ohiopyle State Park, which encompasses roughly 20,500 acres and draws millions of visitors annually for hiking, biking on the Great Allegheny Passage, class II to IV whitewater rafting on the Youghiogheny River, natural waterslides, and waterfalls.
Things to do near Rowes Run
Ohiopyle State Park is the anchor attraction. The Youghiogheny River Gorge offers some of the best whitewater paddling in the eastern United States with class II, III, and IV rapids, and the park contains 79 miles of hiking trails, including the 27-mile Youghiogheny River Trail, a flat crushed-limestone rail trail shared by hikers, bikers, and cross-country skiers. Families often combine a rafting or tubing day with a stop at the natural waterslides on Meadow Run.
Architecture and history fans have Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob within a short drive, along with Fort Necessity National Battlefield and Friendship Hill National Historic Site. Laurel Caverns, a large commercial cave in Fayette County, is popular as both a guided tour and spelunking destination.
Closer to Rowes Run, riverside towns like Brownsville and Connellsville offer trailheads onto the Great Allegheny Passage for shorter bike rides.

Camping season in this part of Pennsylvania runs roughly from spring through late fall, tracking the state park calendar. Kentuck Campground at Ohiopyle State Park is open from April through mid-December. Private RV parks in the area generally follow a similar window, with some staying open longer for winter cabin rentals.
Summer is the busiest stretch and the prime whitewater season on the Youghiogheny. Campsites can book up fast, especially during peak season from June to September and on holiday weekends. Weekends fill first, and Fourth of July and Labor Day are the tightest dates.
Spring brings high water, wildflowers, and cool nights that still dip near freezing in April. Fall is a strong shoulder season: foliage across the Laurel ridges typically peaks in mid-October, temperatures are comfortable for hiking, and biting insects taper off. Winter brings snow to the higher elevations, with sledding, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling available inside Ohiopyle for travelers with cold-weather rigs.

How to book campgrounds in the area
For public land, Kentuck Campground at Ohiopyle State Park is the main option and books through the Pennsylvania state system. Reservations are handled through ReserveAmerica or by calling 1-888-PA-PARKS, and can be made up to 11 months in advance, with a minimum three-day lead time for arrival. The campground offers more than 200 sites plus a handful of yurts and cottages, with electric hookups on many sites and a sanitary dump station on-site.
Private RV parks near Rowes Run, including The Blue Canoe RV Resort, Firehouse RV Campgrounds, Madison/Pittsburgh SE KOA Journey, Benner's Meadow Run Camping and Cabins, and Fox Den Acres Campgrounds, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. For summer weekends and any holiday, booking two to three months out is prudent to hold a full-hookup pull-through.
What to expect on the ground
The terrain around Rowes Run is hilly. Access roads to some Laurel Highlands campgrounds involve grades and switchbacks, so travelers in larger rigs should check ingress details before arrival. The state park specifically warns that SR 2019 is very steep and directs large RVs bound for Kentuck Campground to take PA 40 to SR 2010 (Chalk Hill-Ohiopyle Road) instead.
Cell coverage is patchy once you leave the main highways and drop into river valleys. Paper directions are a useful backup. Most private parks offer 30 and 50-amp service, dump stations, and Wi-Fi near the office, though bandwidth in the hollows can be limited.
Ohiopyle itself has a walkable village with restaurants, outfitters, and small shops for basics. Larger grocery runs are easiest in Uniontown or Connellsville.

A regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Rowes Run for nearly every motorhome, campervan, or travel trailer on RVezy. Pennsylvania does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or a special RV endorsement for personal-use recreational vehicles under standard weight limits. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and your ID is verified inside the platform during checkout, so there is no extra paperwork. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home-country license. Most first-time renters are surprised by how quick the approval process is.

Booking is low-risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy across every listing. There is a grace period after booking where you can receive a full refund, with additional refund tiers depending on how far out from your trip you cancel. Because the policy is platform-wide, you will not see different cancellation rules on each listing, which keeps things simple. If a host needs to cancel, you are refunded or offered travel credit. If your plans change, reach out through your RVezy account and the support team will walk you through your options.

dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/OhiopyleStatePark/Pages/default.aspxCan the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Rowes Run?
Yes, RV delivery in Rowes Run is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who would rather skip driving a big rig through Fayette County's hilly back roads. Many hosts will deliver and set up your motorhome rental in Rowes Run right at your campsite, vacation rental, or driveway, then walk you through every system before they leave. Common drop-off spots include Benner's Meadow Run, Yogi Bear's Jellystone in Mill Run, and the Madison/Pittsburgh SE KOA. Use the Delivery filter, message the host for a quote based on distance, and arrive at the campground ready to relax.

dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/OhiopyleStatePark/Pages/Camping.aspxWhen is the best time to rent an RV in Rowes Run, PA?
The sweet spot for a Rowes Run RV trip runs from late April through mid-October, with two standout windows. Summer (June through August) brings warm days in the upper 70s to mid-80s°F, perfect for whitewater rafting on the Youghiogheny. But the real local secret is late September through mid-October, when the Laurel Highlands explode into red and gold foliage and overnight lows in the 40s make campfires extra cozy. Spring (April to May) offers waterfalls at full roar in Ohiopyle and lower rates. Winters are cold with snow common in the higher elevations, so most campgrounds close from November to March.
weather.gov/pbz/I've never rented an RV before. Will I actually know what I'm doing?
Yes, and you're in great company because first time renting an RV is exactly who RVezy is built for. Every host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup (or at delivery), walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water systems, propane, and how to dump tanks. You can also message the host any question before you book, and many include a printed cheat sheet in the RV. For a confidence-boosting first trip from Rowes Run, pick a Class C motorhome rental Rowes Run or a smaller travel trailer, head 25 miles to Ohiopyle, and stay two or three nights at one campground. Easy roads, big rewards.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Pages/default.aspxWhat happens if I have a breakdown or emergency on the road?
You are never alone on the road. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so if you get a flat tire on PA-43, a dead battery at a trailhead, or need a tow off a steep grade on US-40, help is one phone call away. You will also have your host's direct contact for quick questions like how to relight the water heater, plus RVezy customer support before, during, and after your trip. Save all three contacts in your phone before pulling out of the driveway and you can cruise the Laurel Highlands knowing you are fully backed up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are popular road trips from Rowes Run, PA?
An RV road trip from Rowes Run puts some of the best scenery in the Mid-Atlantic within easy reach. Drive about 25 miles east to Ohiopyle State Park for whitewater and waterfalls, or 30 miles to Fallingwater, Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpiece. Head 55 miles north to Pittsburgh for city sights and Kennywood Park, or aim 75 miles south on US-40 (the historic National Road) to Cumberland, MD and the start of the Great Allegheny Passage. visitpa.com/things-to-do/road-tripsWhat kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and how much will gas cost?
Realistic expectations help your budget go further. Class C motorhomes around Rowes Run typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon on gas, Class A units run 6 to 10 mpg, and a truck towing a travel trailer averages 10 to 14 mpg. Pennsylvania pump prices often run above the national average due to state fuel taxes, and diesel is typically higher again. To budget, estimate total miles (Rowes Run to Ohiopyle and back is about 50 miles), divide by your rig's mpg, and multiply by the current pump price. Fill up in Uniontown or along I-70 before heading into Ohiopyle, where stations are sparser.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Rowes Run?
Book early and you'll thank yourself. Ohiopyle State Park's Kentuck Campground reservations open up to 11 months in advance through the Pennsylvania state parks system, and summer weekends plus all October foliage dates sell out within hours of opening. Private campgrounds like Benner's Meadow Run and the local KOAs typically fill 2 to 3 months ahead for July and August. Pro tip: if you're aiming for a specific weekend, set a calendar reminder for the day reservations open at exactly 7:00 a.m. Eastern. Weekday stays in May or September are much easier to grab last-minute, and a family RV trip Rowes Run midweek often means a quieter campground all to yourself.
pa.reserveamerica.com/What are the local driving conditions like around Rowes Run?
Driving an RV around Rowes Run is very manageable as long as you respect the terrain. You're in the Laurel Highlands foothills, so expect winding two-lane roads with grades climbing into Chestnut Ridge, especially on PA-381 toward Ohiopyle and US-40 over Summit Mountain. Take the descents in a lower gear to save your brakes. The PA Turnpike (I-76) and I-70 are straightforward but watch for toll booths and gusty winds on high bridges. Snow and ice are real risks November through March, so summer and fall are the friendliest driving seasons. Avoid downtown Pittsburgh's tight tunnels in a tall rig; stick to the parkways or use RV delivery to skip city driving entirely.
511pa.com/What amenities do campgrounds near Rowes Run offer, and where can I dump and fill water?
Most campgrounds near Rowes Run come well-equipped for RVers. Private parks like Benner's Meadow Run, Yogi Bear's Jellystone in Mill Run, and Madison/Pittsburgh SE KOA offer full hookups (water, electric 30/50 amp, and sewer at the site), Wi-Fi, laundry, pools, and camp stores. State park campgrounds at Ohiopyle and Laurel Hill typically offer electric-only sites with a central dump station and potable water fill, so plan accordingly. If you need a quick dump between stops, the KOA at Ruffs Dale and most full-service parks sell dump-only access for a small fee. Confirm hookup amps when booking, especially for larger Class A motorhomes that need 50-amp service to run dual AC units.

Many campervan rental options in Rowes Run include solar setups, while bigger motorhomes often have TVs, awnings, and generators for off-grid weekends in Forbes State Forest. Wi-Fi varies, so if you need to work on the road, message the host to confirm a cellular booster or hotspot is included. Every RVezy listing details exactly what is inside before you book.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Rowes%20Run%2C%20PennsylvaniaWhat add-ons and pickup options can I expect when I rent an RV in Rowes Run?

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Rowes%20Run%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy with a credit card at booking, never in cash to the host. Your nightly rate, taxes, any add-ons, and the protection plan you choose are all itemized before you confirm. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment (the exact amount is shown on the listing) and released back to your card after the trip if the RV is returned in the same condition. To avoid issues, take dated photos at pickup and drop-off, follow the host's fuel and tank policies, and return on time.
