Campgrounds and RV parks near South Uniontown, PA

Whitewater rafting and kayaking on the Youghiogheny River are the marquee activities, with commercial outfitters based in Ohiopyle running Middle and Lower Yough trips. The Great Allegheny Passage rail-trail passes through Ohiopyle, giving RV families a flat, family-friendly biking route with shuttle options. Hiking targets include Cucumber Falls, Ferncliff Peninsula, and the southern terminus of the 70-mile Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. Meadow Run's natural waterslides are a summer favorite for kids. Off the trail, Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob draw architecture visitors, while Fort Necessity National Battlefield covers the region's French and Indian War history. Nemacolin resort, Laurel Caverns, and several wineries round out a rainy-day plan.

The core RV season in the Laurel Highlands runs from mid-April through mid-October, matching the whitewater rafting window on the Youghiogheny. Most private campgrounds in the Ohiopyle and Farmington area operate seasonally rather than year-round, and Benner's Meadow Run typically opens in mid-April and closes in mid-October. Kentuck Campground inside Ohiopyle State Park operates from April through mid-December. Summer is peak season. Holiday weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day fill early, and popular trailheads and river access points get crowded. Fall brings reliable foliage color through October and cooler nights that suit hiking and biking better than paddling. Winter camping is limited. Snow and ice close most private parks, though the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail remains open year-round and Seven Springs, Hidden Valley, and Laurel Mountain draw ski traffic to the broader region. Renters planning shoulder-season trips should confirm bathhouse availability and water hookups before booking.

Terrain in the Laurel Highlands is hilly and wooded. RV renters should expect some narrow, winding approach roads on Route 381 and side routes toward Ohiopyle, and should confirm site length and any low-clearance concerns with the campground before arrival, especially for Class A or long fifth-wheel setups. Most private campgrounds in the area offer 20, 30, and 50 amp service, with a mix of water and electric or full hookup sites, bathhouses, dump stations, and Wi-Fi of variable reliability. Cell signal can be spotty in river canyons and on the ridges. Bears are present in the Laurel Highlands, so food and trash should be stored securely. Fires are permitted only in provided rings and grills at state park sites, and alcohol is not permitted in Pennsylvania state parks.
