Camping near Uniontown, Pennsylvania
Uniontown sits in Fayette County in southwestern Pennsylvania, at the western edge of the Laurel Highlands. The city is the closest full-service hub for RV travelers heading to Ohiopyle State Park, which covers roughly 20,500 acres around the Youghiogheny River Gorge just east of town. Uniontown has hospitals, grocery stores, propane, and diesel in town, which makes the area a practical base for longer trips into the surrounding state park and state forest lands.
Most private campgrounds cluster along US-40 (the National Road) and PA-381 between Uniontown, Farmington, and Ohiopyle. Benner's Meadow Run Camping and Cabins, The Blue Canoe RV Resort, Tall Oaks Campground, Scarlett Knob Campground Inc, and Sand Springs Campground all fall within a short drive of the state park entrance and the Great Allegheny Passage rail trail.
The region also includes Fort Necessity National Battlefield, Fallingwater, and Ohiopyle's whitewater put-ins, so RV travelers typically use one campground as a hub and day-trip from there rather than moving sites every night.
Things to do near Uniontown
Ohiopyle State Park is the main draw. The Youghiogheny River carries commercial and private whitewater trips from spring through fall, with class III and IV rapids on the Lower Yough. The park also contains extensive hiking trails and serves as the southern terminus for the 70-mile Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail, and the paved Great Allegheny Passage rail-trail runs through the park between Pittsburgh and Cumberland, Maryland.
Families use Ohiopyle's natural waterslides on Meadow Run, the swimming areas, and Cucumber Falls. Trout fishing is popular on the Yough and on Meadow Run, with a Pennsylvania fishing license and trout stamp required.
Off-water, Fort Necessity National Battlefield sits on US-40 between Uniontown and Farmington, and Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater at Mill Run is a short drive from most area campgrounds. Seven Springs, Hidden Valley, and Laurel Mountain ski areas are within an hour for winter travelers.

The primary camping season in this part of Pennsylvania runs from mid-April through mid-October. Ohiopyle State Park's Kentuck Campground operates from April through mid-December, while many private campgrounds in the area, including Scarlett Knob Campground Inc, operate on a shorter warm-season window. Winter camping options are limited.
Late spring and early summer bring the biggest whitewater flows and the heaviest rainfall, with June averaging the most precipitation of the year. Summer weekends, especially Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day, are the busiest of the year, and Ohiopyle State Park reservations frequently fill months in advance for those dates. Weekday summer stays are noticeably easier to book.
September and October are the quietest of the warm-weather months and often the most comfortable, with cooler nights, lower humidity, and fall color across the Laurel Ridge. Winter brings snow, ice, and reduced services; the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail stays open year-round but conditions are strenuous.
How to book campgrounds near Uniontown
Pennsylvania state park campsites, including Kentuck Campground at Ohiopyle, are booked through the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests reservation system on ReserveAmerica or by calling 888-PA-PARKS. Most sites can be reserved up to 11 months in advance, with new dates released at noon Eastern Time, and reservations generally must be made at least three days before arrival. Summer weekends and holiday weekends book out early, so planning at the 11-month window is common for peak dates.
Private campgrounds handle their own bookings. Scarlett Knob Campground Inc takes reservations by phone with a Visa or MasterCard, and Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day weekends require a two-night minimum. Benner's Meadow Run Camping and Cabins, The Blue Canoe RV Resort, Tall Oaks Campground, and Sand Springs Campground book through their own websites or by phone, with cancellation windows that generally require 30 days' notice for a refund.
What to expect on-site
Expect wooded, hilly terrain. Sites at Kentuck Campground in Ohiopyle are packed relatively close together and some larger rigs have reported tight turns, so calling ahead to confirm site dimensions is worthwhile for anything over 30 feet. Kentuck has electric hookups at many sites, a dump station, and shower houses with flush toilets, but no site-level water hookups, so freshwater tanks should be filled before arrival.
Private campgrounds in the area vary widely. Scarlett Knob is more rustic with tent-focused wooded sites, pit toilets alongside a flush-toilet restroom, coin-operated hot showers, and a limited number of sites with water and 20-amp electric hookups for pop-ups, small campers, and vans. Cell service is spotty in the gorge and on the ridgetops. Quiet hours at most area campgrounds run from 9 or 10 p.m. to 8 or 9 a.m., and alcohol is prohibited in Pennsylvania state parks.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Uniontown, PA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Uniontown, PA?
Good news for budget-minded travelers: RV rental in Uniontown, PA is one of the most affordable ways to explore the Laurel Highlands. Nightly rates on RVezy typically start around $90 to $140 for travel trailers, $150 to $220 for Class C motorhomes, and $200 plus for larger Class A coaches, depending on season and features. To find a cheap RV rental in Uniontown, look at towable trailers, book midweek, and aim for shoulder months like late April or October when fall foliage is gorgeous and prices drop. Pro tip: bundling delivery to Ohiopyle State Park can be cheaper than the fuel and stress of towing yourself.
visitpa.com/explore/regions/laurel-highlands/uniontown/What license do I need to rent an RV in Uniontown, PA?
Great news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Uniontown, PA. Pennsylvania does not require a special endorsement or commercial driver's license (CDL) for personal-use motorhomes, travel trailers, or fifth wheels available on RVezy. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home auto association before flying in and pair it with your home license. You'll need to be 25 or older to book, and RVezy will verify your ID quickly through the platform. Most first-time renters are surprised how easy the process is, so you can focus on planning stops at Fallingwater and Ohiopyle instead of paperwork.
pa.gov/agencies/dmv/driver-services/get-a-license-permit-or-id-card.htmlIs my RV rental in Uniontown, PA protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RVezy booking in Uniontown includes built-in protection for peace of mind. Each trip comes with a renter protection plan that covers damage to the RV, plus 24/7 roadside assistance for issues like flat tires, lockouts, or dead batteries on the winding roads through the Laurel Highlands. During checkout you select the protection level that best fits your trip, so coverage is set by RVezy and not the host. While it is not traditional auto insurance, it provides meaningful financial protection so you can enjoy day trips on the Youghiogheny River with confidence. If anything happens, RVezy support is just a phone call away.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Uniontown RV trip?
Booking an RV rental in Uniontown is low-risk because RVezy, not the host, sets the cancellation policy. Every reservation includes a money-back grace period right after booking, so if your plans change quickly you are protected. After that, refund eligibility depends on how far out you are from your trip start date. Because the cancellation policy is handled at the platform level, you will not see it listed on individual RV listings, which keeps protections consistent for every guest. If your dates shift due to a winter storm or summer flash flood near the Youghiogheny, reach out to RVezy support for help with your options.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Uniontown RV rental?
Absolutely, and plenty of owners list pet-friendly RV rentals in Uniontown. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see motorhomes and trailers that welcome four-legged co-pilots. Uniontown is a dream for dog owners: Ohiopyle State Park allows leashed pets on most trails including the Ferncliff Peninsula and Great Allegheny Passage, and Fort Necessity National Battlefield's grounds are leashed-pet friendly. Many local campgrounds like Benner's Meadow Run and Yogi Bear's Jellystone in Mill Run have designated dog areas. Pro tip: pack a towel for muddy paws after Cucumber Falls, message the host about their pet rules, and you're all set for a tail-wagging Laurel Highlands adventure.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/ohiopyle-state-park.htmlCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Uniontown?
Yes, RV delivery in Uniontown is one of the most popular booking options, especially for first-timers. Many RVezy hosts will drive the rig to your driveway, a local campground like Benner's Meadow Run, Yogi Bear's Jellystone in Mill Run, or even right into Ohiopyle State Park's Kentuck Campground. They'll level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. This removes the stress of towing through mountain switchbacks on Route 40 (the historic National Road) over Summit Mountain. Filter by Delivery on RVezy, confirm the fee and distance with your host, and your motorhome rental in Uniontown becomes a turn-key vacation.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/ohiopyle-state-park/maps-and-rules.htmlHow many miles do I get with my Uniontown RV rental?
You'll usually have plenty of road to roam. Most RVezy hosts in Uniontown include a generous daily mileage allowance, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect for a longer Pennsylvania road trip. The exact number is shown on each listing before you book, along with the per-mile rate if you go over. For perspective, Uniontown to Pittsburgh is only about 55 miles, Ohiopyle is 22 miles east, and Fallingwater sits 25 miles northeast. Even a weeklong loop through the Laurel Highlands rarely exceeds 300 miles. If you're planning a bigger campervan rental Uniontown adventure to Washington D.C. or Niagara Falls, ask the host about unlimited add-ons.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxWhere are the best campgrounds near Uniontown, PA?
You're spoiled for choice with some of the best campgrounds near Uniontown sitting within a 30-minute drive. Kentuck Campground inside Ohiopyle State Park offers wooded sites with electric hookups and quick access to Cucumber Falls. Benner's Meadow Run Camping and Cabins in Farmington has full-hookup RV sites plus a pool. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort in Mill Run is a family favorite with planned activities. Scarlett Knob Campground sits right next to Ohiopyle, and Madison/Pittsburgh SE KOA Journey is a great northern base. Pro tip: Kentuck books up months in advance through the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system, so lock in dates early.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/ohiopyle-state-park/camping-and-lodging.htmlWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Uniontown?
Late spring through mid-fall is the sweet spot for RV camping Uniontown style, but each season has a personality. April through June brings wildflowers, roaring waterfalls, and highs in the 60s to upper 70s F. July and August are warm (80s F) and perfect for rafting the Youghiogheny. September and October are arguably the best window: cool nights in the 40s, crisp 60s and 70s by day, and spectacular Laurel Highlands fall foliage peaking mid-October. Winters can dip into the 20s F with snow in the higher elevations, but many hosts still rent heated RVs for ski trips to nearby Seven Springs and Hidden Valley. Insider tip: book your fall trip by July.
weather.gov/pbz/I've never driven an RV before. Is renting in Uniontown beginner-friendly?
Yes, first time renting an RV in Uniontown is easier than you'd think. Every RVezy host provides a thorough orientation at pickup, walking you through the propane, water, slide-outs, and dashboard so nothing feels mysterious. If hills make you nervous, pick a Class B campervan or small Class C and you'll handle Route 40 over Summit Mountain just fine. Better yet, choose delivery and skip the driving altogether. The roads around Uniontown have a mix of flat valley stretches and winding mountain segments near Ohiopyle, so plan daylight arrivals. Pro tip: do a short practice loop on Route 119 north before tackling the tighter switchbacks toward Fallingwater.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/SafetyHomePageItems/Pages/Drivers-Manual.aspxWhat if my RV breaks down during my Uniontown trip?
You are never alone on the road. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you are parked at Ohiopyle State Park or pulled over on Route 40. Common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and tow needs are covered. Your host is also a direct lifeline; most are local and can talk you through a quick fix. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number in your phone before leaving Uniontown, because cell service can be patchy deep inside the Youghiogheny River Gorge.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best road trips from Uniontown, PA?
An RV road trip from Uniontown puts you within a day's drive of incredible destinations. Head about 55 miles north to Pittsburgh for skyline views from Mount Washington. Drive roughly 75 miles south to Morgantown, West Virginia, with the New River Gorge a longer haul further south. Niagara Falls is a scenic trip north through Pennsylvania, and Washington D.C. sits about 200 miles southeast. Or stay close and loop the Laurel Highlands Scenic Byway with stops at Fallingwater (25 miles), Ohiopyle (22 miles), and Seven Springs (35 miles). Cross-border travel into Canada is allowed on many listings with host approval; travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals.
visitpa.com/region/laurel-highlands/How much should I budget for fuel on a Uniontown RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second-biggest expense after the rental itself, but Uniontown's compact geography keeps it manageable. Expect 7 to 10 miles per gallon for Class C motorhomes, 6 to 8 for Class A, and 12 to 18 for campervans and tow setups. Pennsylvania gas prices typically run a bit above the national average, so check GasBuddy before fill-ups. A weekend loop covering Ohiopyle, Fallingwater, and Fort Necessity rarely tops 150 miles, so budget around $60 to $90 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Uniontown or Connellsville before heading into Ohiopyle, because the village itself has no gas station and the nearest pump is in Farmington.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Uniontown?
Earlier is always better, especially for the marquee spots. Kentuck Campground inside Ohiopyle State Park opens reservations 11 months in advance through the Pennsylvania DCNR reservation system, and peak summer and fall weekends sell out fast. Privately run favorites like Benner's Meadow Run and Yogi Bear's Jellystone in Mill Run also fill 3 to 6 months ahead for July, August, and October foliage weekends. For a spontaneous trip, midweek arrivals in May, June, or September give you the best shot at walk-up availability. Insider tip: if Kentuck is full, look at Tub Run Campground on the Youghiogheny River Lake (Army Corps of Engineers); it's quieter and often has openings.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/reserve-a-campsite-or-facility.htmlWhat are driving conditions like around Uniontown, PA?
Uniontown sits at the foot of Chestnut Ridge, so you'll find a mix of easy valley driving and curvier mountain stretches. Route 40, the historic National Road, climbs Summit Mountain east of town with a steady grade and a few hairpin turns near Hopwood; take it slow in a tall RV. Route 119 north toward Connellsville and Pittsburgh is mostly flat four-lane. Winter brings occasional snow and ice from December through March at higher elevations, so check PennDOT's 511PA before driving. Summer thunderstorms can hit hard, especially in the Youghiogheny gorge. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk on rural roads. Take it easy and the scenery rewards you.
511pa.com/What hookups and amenities do campgrounds near Uniontown offer?
You'll find everything from rustic to resort. Kentuck Campground at Ohiopyle State Park offers electric (20/30/50 amp) sites, modern restrooms, and showers, plus a dump station and potable water fill, but no individual sewer hookups. Private parks like Benner's Meadow Run, Scarlett Knob, and Yogi Bear's Jellystone in Mill Run offer full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50 amp), Wi-Fi, pools, and laundry. Madison/Pittsburgh SE KOA has full-service pull-throughs ideal for larger Class A rigs. Pro tip: the Ohiopyle dump station is free for state park campers and conveniently located near the main park entrance, so plan your tank dump on the way out toward Uniontown.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/ohiopyle-state-park/camping-and-lodging.htmlWhat's included inside a typical Uniontown RV rental?
You'll be impressed by how turn-key these rigs are. Most RV rentals in Uniontown on RVezy come stocked with a queen or king bed plus convertible dinette beds, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, cookware, and dishes, an enclosed bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control with furnace and air conditioning, and seatbelts for travel passengers. Many hosts include bedding, towels, outdoor chairs, a TV, and Wi-Fi hotspots, with optional generators for boondocking near the Youghiogheny. Each listing spells out exactly what's included, so there are no surprises. Pro tip: ask the host about an outdoor grill add-on for evenings under the stars at Kentuck Campground.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/ohiopyle-state-park.htmlWhat add-ons and pickup options should I expect when renting in Uniontown?
You've got flexibility to tailor your trip. Popular add-ons from Uniontown hosts include generators ($25 to $50 per day), portable BBQs, bike racks (handy for the Great Allegheny Passage trail), camp chairs, linens packages, and outdoor kitchen kits. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Uniontown, Hopwood, or Farmington, with delivery available to local campgrounds for a per-mile fee. Mileage policies range from 100 free miles per day to unlimited, depending on the host. Filter by Instant Book to lock in a rig immediately. Pro tip: if you're planning a Fallingwater plus Ohiopyle weekend, request delivery directly to Kentuck Campground and skip the pickup drive entirely.
visitpa.com/explore/regions/laurel-highlands/uniontown/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple, secure, and handled entirely through the RVezy platform, never in cash to the host. You pay your rental total plus the protection plan fee at the time of booking using a credit card. A refundable security deposit is held separately (typically pre-authorized rather than charged) before pickup and released after the trip once the RV is returned in the agreed condition. The amount varies by RV size and value and is shown on the listing. To avoid issues, take date-stamped photos at pickup and drop-off, follow the host's mileage and generator policies, and dump tanks before returning. Pro tip: keep all pre-trip questions in the RVezy inbox so everything stays documented.
