Campgrounds near Dillon, South Carolina
Dillon sits in the northeastern corner of South Carolina, roughly six miles south of the North Carolina line and directly on the Interstate 95 corridor. That location makes it a common overnight stop for RV travelers moving between the Northeast and Florida, and a practical base for exploring the Pee Dee region. Camp Pedro sits almost on the state line at the South of the Border complex in Hamer, with Dillon about six miles to the south and Florence roughly 40 miles further southwest.
Campground options in the area split cleanly into two categories. Bass Lake Campground and Bass Lake RV Campground share a lakeside property just off Exit 193 with full-hookup sites on a small private lake close to town, while Camp Pedro offers back-in, 30-amp pull-through, and 50-amp pull-through sites at South of the Border on I-95.
For a state-park experience, Little Pee Dee State Park lies in the South Carolina Sandhills region and is named after the blackwater Little Pee Dee River, with a quiet setting for fishing the 54-acre Lake Norton for bream, bass, and catfish. Just across the state line, Lumberton / I-95 KOA Journey adds another highway-accessible option.
Things to do around Dillon
Fishing and short nature walks are the main on-site draws. The lake at Bass Lake Campground holds bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish, and campers can walk the shoreline. At Little Pee Dee State Park, families can paddle or fish Lake Norton and hike the Beaver Pond Nature Trail through Sandhills longleaf pine forest.
Off-site, the biggest draw is South of the Border, which is within walking distance of Camp Pedro and includes the Sombrero Tower observation deck, an arcade, and a reptile attraction. Historic downtown Dillon has small restaurants and shops a short drive from the lakeside campgrounds.
For day trips, Myrtle Beach is roughly 90 minutes southeast, and Wrightsville Beach and the southern North Carolina coast sit about two hours from the Lumberton / I-95 KOA Journey.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in this area. From mid-March through May and again from mid-September through November, daytime highs are comfortable, humidity is manageable, and the interstate campgrounds tend to be busy but not sold out on weekdays.
Summers are hot and humid, with afternoon and evening thunderstorms common from June through August. Biting insects are active near the swamps and lakes, so repellent is essential at Little Pee Dee State Park. Because the state park has a limited number of hookup sites, book well ahead for summer holiday weekends.
Winter is the quiet season. Freezing nights occur but hard freezes are brief, and the private I-95 campgrounds stay open year round for snowbird traffic. Little Pee Dee State Park also operates year round, with a lakefront camper cabin available when overnight temperatures dip below what tent campers want to handle. September is the wettest month on average and coincides with peak Atlantic tropical activity, so it is worth watching the forecast if traveling then.
Booking a campsite near Dillon
Reservation systems differ by operator. Camping reservations at Little Pee Dee State Park can be made by calling toll-free 1-866-345-PARK or through the South Carolina State Parks reservations page. A minimum two-night stay is required, and reservations requested less than one day before check-in must be made directly through the park.
Private parks handle bookings on their own systems. Bass Lake Campground and Bass Lake RV Campground take reservations by phone, Camp Pedro books through the South of the Border property, and the Lumberton / I-95 KOA Journey uses the standard KOA reservation platform. For peak holiday weekends and the spring and fall snowbird migrations, book several weeks out.
Maximum cumulative stay at most South Carolina state parks is 42 out of 49 days; during peak season, parks may shorten this to a 14-day consecutive stay, after which campers must leave the park for seven days before returning.
What to expect on the ground
The I-95 campgrounds are built for transit. Camp Pedro offers back-in, 30-amp pull-through, and 50-amp pull-through sites, with paved pads and some longer pull-throughs sized for large rigs. Expect some highway noise and, at Bass Lake, occasional sound from the nearby Dillon Motor Speedway and freight trains.
Bass Lake RV Campground has around 60 full-service pull-through sites with 30 and 50-amp service, and can accommodate large rigs and towed trailers. Cell coverage is generally strong across the area on major carriers.
Little Pee Dee State Park is the quietest option and the most rustic. Sites include 18 with water and electric, 11 full-hookup sites with water, electric, and sewer, and 18 designated tent sites with central water. Bring insect repellent in warm months and expect sandy, tree-shaded sites rather than manicured pads.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Dillon, SC
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Dillon, SC?
RV rental in Dillon, SC is more affordable than you might think, especially compared to coastal South Carolina hotspots. On RVezy, towable travel trailers near Dillon typically average around $125 to $150 a night, while drivable motorhomes generally run closer to $200 to $275 a night, and many hosts offer weekly and monthly discounts. You can stretch your budget further by traveling midweek or in the shoulder months of March, April, and October when demand dips. Pro tip for a cheap RV rental in Dillon: filter by towable trailers and ask a host who offers delivery to drop the unit at Little Pee Dee State Park, so you skip towing and fuel costs entirely.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Dillon%2C%20South%20CarolinaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Dillon, SC?
Good news: for almost every RV rental in Dillon, SC, your regular driver's license is all you need. The South Carolina DMV only requires a specialty non-commercial classification for very large motorhomes over 26,000 pounds GVWR, which is heavier than the Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, and most Class A rigs listed on RVezy. To book, RVezy requires approved drivers to be 25 or older with a valid driver's license, and ID verification happens right inside the platform. Visiting from outside the US? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home auto club along with your home license, and you're set to hit Interstate 95.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RV rental insurance and protection included when I rent an RV in Dillon, SC?
Yes, every RV rental in Dillon, SC booked through RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers physical damage to the vehicle during your trip, and you choose your coverage level (not the host) during checkout, picking the tier that matches your comfort and budget. Coverage is provided through RVezy's protection program rather than a personal auto policy, but it offers meaningful financial protection for your Dillon RV trip. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers before booking so you know exactly what's protected when you pull into Camp Pedro at South of the Border.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Dillon, SC RV trip plans change?
Booking an RV rental in Dillon, SC on RVezy is low-risk because RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy, and it includes a grace-period window after booking where eligible cancellations can receive a full refund. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy issues a refund or travel credit so your trip plans stay on track. Because the cancellation policy is platform-wide, you won't see different cancellation rules listed on each RV. Pro tip: book early to lock in your dates for Darlington race weekends or Myrtle Beach summer trips, knowing the grace period gives you breathing room if plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Dillon, SC?
Absolutely, plenty of pet-friendly RV rentals in Dillon, SC welcome your four-legged co-pilot. On RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter to see hosts who allow dogs (and sometimes cats) in their rigs, and message the host beforehand to confirm size or breed preferences. Once you're here, Little Pee Dee State Park allows leashed pets in the campground and on trails, including the Beaver Pond Nature Trail loop, so your pup can explore right alongside you. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl and plenty of fresh water, because summer heat indexes in Dillon can climb well past 100 degrees Fahrenheit and pups dehydrate fast on the Carolina Bay boardwalks.
southcarolinaparks.com/little-pee-deeCan a host deliver the RV to my campground in Dillon, SC?
Yes, RV delivery in Dillon, SC is one of the easiest ways to skip the stress of towing or driving a big rig down Interstate 95. Many RVezy hosts will deliver the RV directly to campgrounds like Little Pee Dee State Park or Camp Pedro at South of the Border, level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Just use the Delivery filter when you search, then message the host with your campsite number and arrival date. Pro tip: delivery is a game-changer for first time renting an RV, because you arrive to a fully set-up motorhome rental in Dillon and start vacation immediately instead of fumbling with hookups.

Summer (June through August) is hot and humid, with July highs averaging near 90 degrees Fahrenheit and high heat indexes, so plan early-morning hikes and lean on the RV's AC. Winters are mild, with January highs around 55 degrees Fahrenheit, making it a quiet, budget-friendly time for a campervan rental in Dillon if you don't mind cooler nights.
weather.gov/ilm/I've never rented an RV before. Is renting in Dillon, SC a good first-timer experience?
Dillon is one of the friendliest places in South Carolina for your first time renting an RV. Roads here are flat, traffic is light off the Interstate 95 corridor, and Little Pee Dee State Park is a short, simple drive on paved state highways. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through propane, water, the generator, the awning, and dump procedures, and you can message them anytime during your trip. Many hosts also deliver, set up, and pick up the RV for you, so you literally never have to drive it. Pro tip: ask your host to text you a short video walkthrough before pickup, so the orientation feels like a refresher rather than a firehose of new info.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Dillon%2C%20South%20CarolinaWhat happens if something goes wrong with my RV rental in Dillon, SC?
You're never alone on the road. Every RV rental in Dillon, SC booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on Interstate 95, a dead battery at a lakeside campsite, or a lockout at Camp Pedro is one phone call away from help. RVezy's customer support team is available before, during, and after your trip, and your host is just a message away for questions about quirks specific to their rig. Pro tip: snap a photo of the roadside assistance number and stick it on the fridge before you leave the driveway, that way it's right there when you need it most.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Dillon, SC RV rental across state lines or into Canada or Mexico?
Yes, US interstate travel is generally fine, which is great news since Dillon sits near the North Carolina border and Interstate 95 carries you straight into Georgia, Virginia, and beyond. Popular cross-state trips include the Outer Banks (about 4 hours northeast), the Blue Ridge Parkway (4 hours west), and Savannah, Georgia (about 3.5 hours south). Travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and protection coverage, so message the host directly through the listing before booking. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because coverage does not extend there. Pro tip: a classic RV road trip from Dillon, SC loops south to Charleston, west to Asheville, and back via Columbia in about a week.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for in Dillon, SC?
Plan smart and your fuel costs stay very manageable. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class A rigs land closer to 6 to 10 MPG, and Class B campervans can hit 18 to 22 MPG, so a campervan rental in Dillon is the most fuel-efficient pick. South Carolina has some of the lowest gas prices in the Southeast, and you'll find Pilot, Loves, and Pedro's Truck Stop right at Exit 193 off Interstate 95 in Dillon, all with diesel and high-clearance pumps. Pro tip: top off in South Carolina before crossing into North Carolina or Georgia, where fuel typically runs 20 to 40 cents more per gallon, and use apps like GasBuddy to find the cheapest pumps along Interstate 95.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Dillon, SC?
For the best sites at Little Pee Dee State Park, book three to six months ahead, especially for spring and fall weekends and any holiday. Reservations open up to 13 months in advance through the official South Carolina State Parks reservation system online or by phone, and the park has a two-night minimum on many weekends. Private parks like Camp Pedro at South of the Border are usually easier to grab last-minute, often within a week or two of your trip. Pro tip: if your dates at Little Pee Dee are sold out, watch the reservation site closely, sites open up almost daily as plans shift, and a lakefront spot is worth the wait.
southcarolinaparks.com/little-pee-dee/campingWhat are driving conditions like around Dillon, SC?
Driving an RV around Dillon is refreshingly easy. The terrain is flat coastal plain, the roads are wide and well-maintained, and Interstate 95 runs right through town with tall clearances and big truck stops built for rigs of any size. Local routes like US-301 and SC-9 are two-lane but straight, with light traffic outside of race weekends at nearby Darlington Raceway. Watch for afternoon thunderstorms in summer (June through August) and the occasional tropical system in late summer, when winds can pick up. Pro tip: avoid driving the Interstate 95 corridor on Friday afternoons in summer if you can, as beach-bound traffic from Virginia and the Carolinas backs up near South of the Border.

You pay your trip total securely online when you book, and a refundable security deposit is placed on hold (separate from your booking payment) before your trip to cover potential incidentals like excess mileage, dumping fees, or minor wear. After drop-off, assuming everything's in good shape, the hold is released. Pro tip: do a quick walk-around video with your host at both pickup and return, saved in your RVezy messages, so there's a clear record of the RV's condition and your security deposit is released without any friction.
