Campgrounds and RV parks near Fripp Island, SC

Fripp Island sits at the southern end of the Sea Islands chain in Beaufort County, roughly 19 miles southeast of the town of Beaufort. The island itself is a private, gated resort community with no public campground, so RV travelers typically base themselves at parks on the surrounding Lowcountry mainland or on neighboring barrier islands and drive in for day visits. The closest full-service options sit north toward Edisto Island and south toward Hilton Head. Tuck In the Wood Campgrounds outside Beaufort is the nearest RV-friendly park on the mainland. Farther afield, Edisto Beach State Park operates two loops, Live Oak and Beach, that draw steady RV traffic. Hilton Head Harbor RV Resort and Marina and Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort serve travelers who want resort-style hookups within about an hour's drive. Expect maritime forest, salt marsh, and tidal creeks throughout the area. Roads onto the barrier islands are narrow two-lane causeways, so larger rigs should plan routes and fuel stops before leaving the interstate corridor.

Edisto Beach State Park, the closest state-run option, is booked through the South Carolina State Parks reservation system. Reservations may be made up to 13 months in advance, with a two-night minimum, and the reservation line is 866-345-7275. Popular oceanfront sites go quickly when the rolling window opens, so calendar the release date if targeting a specific weekend. Private parks including Tuck In the Wood Campgrounds, Hilton Head Harbor RV Resort and Marina, and Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Holiday weekends and spring break often require longer minimum stays. For last-minute trips, cancellation-watch tools can flag openings at sold-out state park loops.
