Campgrounds and RV parks near Hollywood, SC

The beach is the anchor activity. Swimming and beachcombing are popular on the clean, uncrowded beach known for excellent shell collecting at Edisto Beach State Park, and visitors may spot signs of loggerhead sea turtle nesting during the warm months. Inland, families can hike or bike the park's trail network. Over 4 miles of ADA-accessible trails lead out to hammock islands and through the maritime forest to the Environmental Learning Center, which houses ACE Basin exhibits, touch tanks, and hands-on programs that work well for kids on a rain day. Downtown Charleston is roughly a 30 to 45 minute drive from Hollywood for carriage tours, the Battery, and the City Market. Botany Bay Plantation, the Edisto Serpentarium, and the Ernest F. Hollings ACE Basin National Wildlife Refuge round out day trips for nature-focused travelers.

Spring and fall are the sweet spots. From March through May, daytime highs sit in the 70s to low 80s Fahrenheit, humidity is manageable, and biting insects are limited. October and early November bring similar conditions with warm ocean water still lingering from summer. Summer is peak family season but also peak heat and storm season. Afternoon thunderstorms are routine, and the Atlantic hurricane season officially runs June 1 through November 30, with activity peaking from mid-August through September. Coastal parks occasionally close for named storms, so travelers should watch the National Hurricane Center outlook and confirm with the park before arriving. Winter is the quiet season. The coldest nights in December, January, or February can drop to 20 degrees Fahrenheit or below, though only about one night a year on average gets that chilly, and daytime temperatures warm back above freezing. Edisto Beach State Park is open year-round, and January and February typically offer the easiest reservation availability.

At Edisto Beach State Park, there are 115 RV campsites with water and electrical hookups plus several walk-to tent sites, and no sites offer full hookups. Several sites accommodate RVs up to 40 feet, but larger rigs should confirm site length before booking. A camp store, dump station, drinking water, flush toilets, and hot showers are on site. Private parks near Hollywood generally offer full hookups, laundry, and pull-through sites suited to bigger motorhomes and travel trailers. Expect Spanish moss, live oaks, and shaded loops. Bring insect repellent. The Lowcountry has active mosquito and no-see-um populations, especially near the marsh in warmer months. Firewood brought into South Carolina State Parks must be sourced from within the state and from less than 50 miles away to limit forest pests.
