Campgrounds and RV parks near Johnsonville, SC

The Lynches River is the main outdoor draw. About 111 river miles are designated as the Lynches Scenic River by SCDNR, and a 66-mile section from Lynches River County Park down to the Great Pee Dee is protected as the Revolutionary Rivers National Water Trail, which was used as a hideout by Revolutionary War hero General Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox. Venters Landing in Johnsonville is a key access point, with a common three-hour paddle running from Venters to Snow's Lake. Lynches River County Park, a 676-acre Florence County park on the Lynches Scenic River, is close by. Activities include canoe and kayak rentals, an elevated canopy walk, hiking trails, a climbing wall, an Environmental Discovery Center with live animals, and a seasonal splash pad. Myrtle Beach, Conway's historic Riverwalk, and Georgetown are all within reasonable driving distance for beaches, shopping, and dining.

Johnsonville has a humid subtropical climate with hot, muggy summers and short, mild winters. Summer highs regularly reach the upper 80s to low 90s Fahrenheit with high humidity, and afternoon thunderstorms are common from June through August. Late summer is typically wet, and the Atlantic hurricane season peaks in September, which can bring flooding rain and river-level swings on the Lynches and Waccamaw. Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel. Daytime temperatures are mild, bug pressure is more manageable, and moderate river levels on the Lynches gauge make paddling safe and pleasant. Sandbars emerge as water drops, creating beaches for swimming and shoreline stops. Winter is mild by northern standards but can be damp, with average highs in the mid 50s Fahrenheit and lows in the mid 30s. Most private RV parks in the Conway and Bucksport area, including Big Cypress Lake RV Park and Fishing Retreat and Bucksport Plantation Marina and RV Resort, stay open year-round and attract snowbirds heading to the Grand Strand.

Terrain is flat, sandy, and heavily wooded, with slow blackwater rivers, cypress swamps, and working farmland. Wildlife along the Lynches includes deer, beavers, turtles, herons, hawks, and woodpeckers, and anglers commonly catch bream, redbreast, bass, and catfish. Fog is common on cool mornings near the rivers, so plan early drives accordingly. Most private parks in the area offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, and pull-through sites suitable for larger rigs. Bucksport Plantation Marina and RV Resort adds a bathhouse, laundry, boat launch, and kayak rentals. Crooked Oaks RV Park includes family amenities such as a pool, playground, and dog park, which make it a strong choice for travelers with children. Cell coverage is generally reliable near the highways but can thin out on the water and in deep swamp sections.
