Campgrounds and RV parks near Kiawah Island, SC

Kiawah Island sits on the South Carolina Lowcountry coast, roughly an hour south of Charleston by road. The island itself is a private, gated resort community with no public campgrounds inside its boundaries, so RV travellers base themselves on the mainland or on nearby barrier islands and drive in for day use at Kiawah Beachwalker Park on the west end of the island. The closest full-hookup options cluster around Johns Island, West Ashley, and Mount Pleasant. Lake Aire RV Park Campground and Oak Plantation Campground are the nearest private parks, both within a short drive of downtown Charleston and the Kiawah bridge. Charleston KOA Holiday adds a well-known chain option north of the city. For a beach-oriented stay, Edisto Beach State Park offers two campgrounds south of Kiawah: the oceanside Beach campground with sites just behind the dunes and the marsh-side Live Oak campground under a maritime forest canopy. Together these give travellers a mix of urban, rural, and oceanfront basing options for exploring Kiawah.

Beach and Live Oak campgrounds at Edisto Beach State Park are booked through the South Carolina State Parks reservation system, online or by phone. Reservations open up to 13 months in advance, a two-night minimum applies to most stays, and the maximum length of stay is 14 nights per site. Same-day bookings must be made directly with the park. Private parks including Lake Aire RV Park Campground, Oak Plantation Campground, and Charleston KOA Holiday take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone, with Charleston KOA also bookable through the KOA network. For spring break, summer weekends, and holidays, oceanfront sites at Edisto typically fill the day they release. Booking eight to twelve months out is standard for those dates, while mainland parks can often be secured a few weeks ahead outside peak periods.
