Campgrounds and RV parks near Litchfield Beach, SC

The main draw is the coast: swimming, surf fishing, beachcombing, and shelling along the Grand Strand. Huntington Beach State Park adds boardwalks over salt marsh, alligator viewing at its freshwater lake, and some of the finest bird-watching on the East Coast, with more than 300 species logged at the park. The Atalaya National Historic Landmark, the Moorish-style winter home of Anna Hyatt and Archer Huntington, is open for tours on site. Brookgreen Gardens sits directly across US-17 from Huntington Beach, pairing sculpture gardens with a small zoo of native Lowcountry wildlife. Kayak and paddleboard rentals are common along the tidal creeks of Murrells Inlet and the Waccamaw River. Families staying at the larger resorts will find on-site water parks, pools, and mini golf, and Myrtle Beach's boardwalk, SkyWheel, and outlet shopping are a short drive north.

The Grand Strand has a humid subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Summer is peak season: warm ocean temperatures, long daylight, and steady afternoon thunderstorms. Oceanfront resorts like Ocean Lakes Family Campground, Lakewood Camping Resort, and Pirateland Family Campground fill months in advance for June through August and holiday weekends, and Huntington Beach State Park's coastal sites are among the hardest state park sites to book in South Carolina. Spring and fall are the sweet spot for RV travel. March through May and September through November bring pleasant temperatures, lower humidity, and generally reduced rainfall, and campgrounds are noticeably less crowded outside spring break weeks. Winters are mild, and Ocean Lakes Family Campground along with several other private resorts stay open year round. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, with peak activity from mid-August through early October; travelers in that window should watch NHC advisories and confirm cancellation policies before booking.

Huntington Beach State Park offers 107 standard sites with water and electric, 66 full-hookup sites, and six rustic walk-in tent sites, with hot showers, well-kept bathhouses, and a dog-friendly policy year round. Sites sit under coastal vegetation with short walks to the beach; several accommodate RVs up to 40 feet, others up to 30 feet. The large private resorts on the south end of Myrtle Beach are resort-style properties. Ocean Lakes Family Campground has a mile of oceanfront, 859 pull-through campsites on 310 acres, and the Sandy Harbor Family Fun Center with a water park. Lakewood Camping Resort spans roughly 300 acres with over 1,000 full-hookup sites, a full water park, pools, and a half mile of beach. Pirateland Family Campground offers oceanfront sites with pool amenities. Bucksport Plantation Marina and RV Resort is smaller and quieter, with full-hookup sites and river access.
