Campgrounds and RV parks near Seabrook, SC

Hunting Island State Park offers five miles of beach, thousands of acres of marsh and maritime forest, a saltwater lagoon and ocean inlet, plus South Carolina's only publicly accessible historic lighthouse, dating from the 1870s and rising 132.5 feet. Loggerhead sea turtles nest along the beach in summer, and the park also has a fishing pier popular at sunrise. The ACE Basin, the estuarine reserve fed by the Ashepoo, Combahee, and Edisto rivers, is prime territory for kayaking, birding, and dolphin-watching tours. Guided paddles run from Beaufort and St. Helena Island. Historic downtown Beaufort sits about ten miles from Seabrook and offers antebellum architecture, waterfront dining at Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park, carriage tours, and the Penn Center on St. Helena Island, a key Gullah-Geechee heritage site.

The Lowcountry climate is humid subtropical, with hot, wet summers and mild winters. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV camping, with warm days, lower humidity than midsummer, and manageable bug pressure. Wildflowers and migratory birds peak through the ACE Basin in spring. Summer is the busiest camping season along the coast, and it is also when loggerhead turtles nest and hatch on Hunting Island. Expect afternoon thunderstorms, high humidity, and heat index values that can climb well above one hundred. August is the wettest month in the Beaufort area, with rain falling on nearly 22 days, so bug spray and rain gear are essential. Atlantic hurricane season officially spans June through November, with peak activity from August into October. Coastal parks including Hunting Island have closed and sustained damage during past storms, so travelers booking late-season stays should track forecasts and confirm site status with the park before arrival. Winters are mild, with occasional cold snaps and rare snow.

The terrain is flat, low-lying, and shaded by live oaks draped in Spanish moss. Sites at private RV parks near Point South and along the I-95 corridor typically offer full hookups with thirty and fifty amp service. Hunting Island offers 100 campsites with water and electrical hookups, shower and restroom facilities, beach walkways and a playground. Cell coverage is generally reliable near the interstate and in Beaufort but can weaken deep in the ACE Basin and on parts of Hunting Island. Grocery runs from Hunting Island require about a thirty-minute drive to Lady's Island. Bring bug spray, sunscreen, and a plan for shade or air conditioning in summer. Pets are allowed in most outdoor areas provided they are kept under physical restraint or on a leash not longer than six feet. All firewood brought into South Carolina State Parks must be from within the state and from less than 50 miles away to prevent spreading forest pests.
