Campgrounds and RV parks near Seabrook Island, SC

Beach time dominates the itinerary. Seabrook Island itself has private beaches for guests of the resort, while nearby public sand is easy to reach at Kiawah Beachwalker Park, Folly Beach, and Edisto Beach State Park, which fronts the Atlantic and offers ADA-accessible trails through maritime forest. Wildlife viewing is a major draw. Loggerhead sea turtles nest along Seabrook and neighboring islands from May through October, with peak hatchling emergence in mid to late summer. Bottlenose dolphins are frequently seen strand-feeding in Captain Sams Inlet, and the marshes attract a wide range of shorebirds and wading birds. Other options include kayaking tidal creeks in the ACE Basin, crabbing off public docks, biking the flat barrier-island roads, and day trips into historic downtown Charleston for Fort Sumter, the City Market, and area plantation tours.

The Lowcountry has a long shoulder season. Spring, from mid-March through May, is the sweet spot for RV travel: daytime highs move from the mid 60s into the low 80s Fahrenheit, thunderstorms are less frequent than in summer, and ocean water becomes swimmable by May. Wildflowers, migratory birds, and moderate mosquito activity make campground stays comfortable. Summer is peak family season and peak humidity. June through August delivers highs near 90 Fahrenheit with high dew points and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. Sea turtle nesting is active, ocean temperatures are warm, and coastal campgrounds book out well in advance. This is also Atlantic hurricane season, which peaks from August through October; travelers should track NOAA National Hurricane Center advisories. Fall stays warm through October and cools noticeably in November. It is generally the driest stretch of the year and a strong window for RV travel. Winter is mild by North American standards, with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s Fahrenheit and occasional frosty nights; most area campgrounds stay open year round.

Sites at Edisto Beach State Park include water and electrical hookups but no sewer, with several sites able to accommodate RVs up to 40 feet. The Live Oak side is shaded by maritime forest, while the Beach side is more open behind the dunes. Each campground has restrooms with hot showers, and the park dump station gate is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Wi-Fi is available in select areas only. Private parks closer to Charleston, such as Oak Plantation Campground and Lake Aire RV Park Campground, offer full hookups, paved or gravel pads, laundry, and pools. Big-rig access is typically easier at these commercial parks than at the state park. Expect biting insects, especially mosquitoes and no-see-ums, from late spring through early fall; screens and repellent help. Food should be stored inside the RV. South Carolina State Parks require firewood to be sourced within the state and from within 50 miles of the park.
