Camping near Smithville, Tennessee
Smithville sits in DeKalb County on the western edge of the Cumberland Plateau, minutes from Center Hill Lake and roughly an hour east of Nashville. The town is a practical base for RV travelers targeting the lake, the Caney Fork River, and the waterfalls of the upper Caney Fork gorge. Most nearby campgrounds are lakefront or near marinas, with a mix of Tennessee State Parks sites and privately run properties.
Edgar Evins State Park sits on the shores of Center Hill Lake with a hillside setting, wooded slopes, and expansive lake views popular for paddling, boating, and hiking. To the southeast, Rock Island State Park lies at the headwaters of Center Hill Lake, where the Caney Fork, Collins, and Rocky Rivers meet, and is known for river gorges, waterfalls, and rugged natural scenery.
Private options round out the area. Horseshoe Bend Marina and Campgrounds, Camp Luna, and Frank's at Cane Hollow give RV travelers lake-access alternatives when state park sites are booked.
Things to do around Smithville
Center Hill Lake is the anchor activity, with room for fishing, boating, and paddling across a long reservoir shoreline. Pontoon rentals, kayaks, and public boat ramps are available at multiple marinas, including Horseshoe Bend Marina and Campgrounds and the Edgar Evins marina area.
Waterfalls draw day trips to Rock Island State Park, where paddlers explore side channels below Great Falls. Swimming and wading are not permitted downstream of the Powerhouse regardless of water releases, and TVA posts water release schedules for Great Falls. Hiking, swimming beaches, and fishing for walleye, bass, and trout on the Caney Fork tailwaters are within a short drive. The Appalachian Center for Craft, near Smithville, adds a rainy-day option for families.

Late spring through early fall is peak season on Center Hill Lake, with warm water, long daylight, and steady demand for RV sites. Weekends around Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and the Smithville Fiddlers' Jamboree pull heavy traffic, so booking early is essential for waterfront sites.
Spring brings wildflowers and higher river flows, which improves waterfall viewing at Rock Island but can also mean unpredictable TVA releases at Great Falls Dam and Powerhouse, where water discharge may change day to day or even hour to hour. Fall is quieter, cooler, and prized for lake color viewed from the water.
Winter is the slow season. Some private marinas scale back operations, though Horseshoe Bend stays open year-round. At Rock Island, the main RV campground remains open year-round, while the separate tent-only campground closes from November 2 through March 15. At Edgar Evins, roughly 20 sites and one bathhouse stay open year-round.

How to book campgrounds near Smithville
Tennessee State Parks handles bookings for both Edgar Evins State Park and Rock Island State Park through a single reservation system at reserve.tnstateparks.com. Advanced reservations may be made up to one year in advance, with a non-refundable reservation fee per campsite that supports the state parks reservation system. Most campsites require a minimum two-night stay.
Overnight guests must be eighteen or older, and a parent or adult must accompany anyone under eighteen. Private campgrounds such as Horseshoe Bend Marina and Campgrounds, Camp Luna, and Frank's at Cane Hollow are booked directly with the operator, often by phone or through their websites. Reserve summer weekends and holiday weeks well in advance.
What to expect on the ground
Sites at Edgar Evins State Park are unusual. The wooden platform sites are reinforced with concrete and steel, built into the slopes above Center Hill Lake, and equipped with a picnic table, grill, and fire ring. They are designed for trailers or motor homes up to 33 feet in length, with a few select sites up to 40 feet. Confirm rig length at booking. Three bathhouses with hot showers and a central dump station serve the campground.
Rock Island offers more conventional back-in sites. The main campground has 50 sites for RVs and trailers, each with 20, 30, and 50-amp electric and water hookups, a charcoal grill, fire ring, lantern hanger, and picnic table. Sites 1 to 4 and 31 to 34 add sewer hookups. Two bathhouses, a dump station, and Wi-Fi round out the facilities. Expect wooded shade and variable cell service, especially at private marina campgrounds off the main highways.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Smithville%2C%20TennesseeWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Smithville, Tennessee?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Smithville. Tennessee does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement for personal RVs, including Class A motorhomes and fifth wheels you will find on RVezy. To be an approved driver you generally need to be 25 or older with a valid driver's license, and you will confirm your ID inside the RVezy platform during booking. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP). Most first-time renters finish the verification step in just a few minutes.

Booking is low-risk because RVezy sets and manages the cancellation policy for every reservation, not the host. That means if your plans shift, a family member gets sick, or severe weather threatens your Center Hill Lake trip, you have a clear path forward. RVezy's support team also considers extenuating circumstances like natural disasters and major travel disruptions when reviewing cancellations. The policy is handled at the platform level, so you will not see different cancellation terms on different Smithville listings. Pro tip: book early to lock in Fiddlers' Jamboree weekend dates around July 4, then contact RVezy support promptly if your plans change.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Smithville?
Absolutely, and a pet-friendly RV rental Smithville is one of the most relaxing ways to travel with your dog. Once you arrive, Edgar Evins State Park has pet-friendly trails along Center Hill Lake, and Army Corps day-use areas around the lake allow leashed dogs. The Smithville town square is small, walkable, and easy for a quick coffee stop with your pup. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl since Tennessee summers near the lake can climb into the low 90s.
tnstateparks.com/parks/edgar-evinsCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Smithville?
Yes, RV delivery Smithville is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you are a first-time renter. Many local hosts will drive the motorhome or travel trailer directly to popular spots like Edgar Evins State Park, Floating Mill Park on Center Hill Lake, or a private cabin driveway, then level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts who offer this service, and check each listing for the delivery fee and mileage range. Pro tip: delivery is a game-changer for the Fiddlers' Jamboree weekend in early July when parking near the square gets tight.

You won't be left guessing. Roads around Center Hill Lake are scenic but manageable, and many campgrounds (like Edgar Evins) have pull-through sites that don't require backing skills. Hosts on RVezy are reachable by message before and during your trip, and 24/7 roadside assistance is always one tap away. For anything mechanical or appliance-related, message your host directly through the RVezy app since they know their RV best. RVezy's customer support team is also available before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: save the roadside number to your phone before you leave home so you are never digging through emails on a back road.

Tennessee regularly ranks among the lower-priced fuel states, with prices often below the national average. eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds around Center Hill Lake?

Reservations open daily on Recreation.gov, and the most popular waterfront sites get snapped up within minutes of release. Edgar Evins State Park (Tennessee State Parks system) also takes reservations up to a year out through tnstateparks.com. For shoulder-season trips in April, May, September, or October, you can often book just 2 to 4 weeks out. Pro tip: set a 7 a.m. Central alarm for the exact six-month release date to score lakefront sites.

Interstate 40 is just a short drive north at the Buffalo Valley exit, giving you a fast straight shot to Nashville or Knoxville. Summer afternoon thunderstorms can pop up quickly, and winter occasionally brings light snow. Pro tip: avoid the square in downtown Smithville during Jamboree weekend and use Highway 56 South to bypass festival traffic.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Smithville%2C%20TennesseeHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and fully handled through the RVezy platform, so you never hand cash to your host. You will pay your rental total at the time of booking using a credit or debit card, and a refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) is pre-authorized on your card before pickup, not actually charged. As long as you return the RV in the agreed condition with the proper fuel and tank levels, the hold is released after your trip ends.
