Campgrounds and RV parks near Arp, TX

Water recreation drives most trips. A canal connects Lake Tyler East with Lake Tyler West, and both lakes have a reputation as consistent largemouth bass fisheries popular with tournament anglers. Catfish, crappie, and sunfish round out the catch, and public boat ramps ring both lakes. Tyler State Park, a short drive northwest, offers hiking, paddling, swimming, and fishing on its small spring-fed lake, with loop trails that originate near the shoreline. Bird watching and geocaching are also popular in the wooded terrain. In town, Tyler is known for its rose gardens, the Caldwell Zoo, and the Texas State Railroad excursion trains that run between Rusk and Palestine. Kilgore and Henderson add oil-history museums and small-town dining within a half-hour drive.

The peak season at Tyler State Park runs from March through November, and the same window applies to most private RV parks in the area. Spring brings wildflowers, active bass fishing, and the Tyler-area azalea and dogwood blooms, but it is also the wettest and most storm-prone stretch, with severe thunderstorms possible from March through May. Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon highs commonly in the mid-90s Fahrenheit and heavy boat traffic on Lake Tyler. Early mornings and evenings are the practical windows for outdoor activity. Fall cools quickly after mid-October and offers the most comfortable camping weather of the year, with lower humidity and fewer storms. Winters are mild but variable. Days are often sunny, and while afternoons can occasionally reach the mid-70s Fahrenheit, nights from November through March can drop below freezing. Hard freezes are usually brief, so most private parks stay open year-round.

Expect a Pineywoods setting: tall loblolly pines, red-clay soil, and rolling terrain rather than open plains. Cell coverage is generally strong along US-79 and around Tyler, but can dip in wooded pockets near the lakes. State-park sites tend to be shaded and spacious, though some access roads are narrow and require careful maneuvering with larger rigs. An RV dump station, shower rooms, and restrooms are located near the camping areas at Tyler State Park. Private parks in the area typically offer level full-hookup pads, laundry, and Wi-Fi of varying quality. Bring insect repellent for mosquitoes and chiggers from late spring through early fall, and check the burn-ban status in Smith and Rusk counties during dry stretches. Prescribed burns are planned in the December through April window at Tyler State Park, depending on weather and other factors, and may briefly affect trail access.
