Campgrounds and RV parks near Bee Cave, TX

Lake Travis anchors most trips. Boating, swimming, paddleboarding, and fishing are available directly from lakeside RV parks and from LCRA and Travis County boat ramps. Muleshoe Bend Recreation Area has a 9.8-mile multiuse trail popular with mountain bikers, plus kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals on site. Hamilton Pool Preserve, a collapsed limestone grotto with a 50-foot waterfall, sits about a 20-minute drive west and requires an advance reservation every day of the week. Pedernales Falls State Park, roughly 30 miles west of Austin, adds hiking, tubing, and swimming on the Pedernales River. For rainy days or downtime, Bee Cave has the Hill Country Galleria for shopping and dining, and Austin proper is a short drive east for museums, live music, and family attractions.

Spring is the strongest window for family RV trips. Wildflowers, mild highs, and reliable river flows line up from March through May, though May is the wettest month of the year in the Austin area and afternoon thunderstorms are common. Bluebonnet displays at Muleshoe Bend Recreation Area typically peak in April. Summer is hot. Austin averages around 29 days at or above 100 degrees Fahrenheit each year, and most summer days reach at least 90. Lake and river swimming become the point of the trip, and shaded, full-hookup sites with strong power for air conditioning are worth prioritizing. Extended dry spells can leave the Pedernales Falls shallow or nearly dry. Fall brings a second wave of good weather from late September through November, with October among the wetter months. Winter is mild by North American standards, with occasional freezes; Austin typically sees only about one day per winter when temperatures fail to rise above freezing. Flash flooding on Hill Country rivers can occur year-round, especially in spring and fall.

Most RV parks near Bee Cave sit on rolling limestone terrain. Sites can be less than perfectly level, so bring blocks. Sunset RV Resort offers full-hookup sites, and Lake Travis Inn and RV Park has pull-throughs with 30 and 50 amp service. Burn bans are common in dry stretches and can prohibit wood and charcoal fires at both state parks and LCRA parks; propane cooking is generally still allowed. Flash floods on the Pedernales River and Onion Creek can rise from calm to dangerous in minutes, so check park alerts before heading out. Cell service is limited inside Pedernales Falls State Park, so download maps and reservation confirmations before arrival. State parks and Hamilton Pool charge a daily entrance fee in addition to any camping or reservation fee.
