Campgrounds and RV parks near Blessing, TX

Saltwater fishing is the headline activity. Anglers work the piers, jetties, and flats of Matagorda and Lavaca bays for redfish, speckled trout, and flounder, and offshore charters run from nearby Matagorda and Port Lavaca. Serendipity Bay Resort RV Park and Marina and Live Oak Point RV Resort give guests direct water access for kayaks and skiffs. The Matagorda Peninsula, reached via FM 2031 south of Bay City, offers drivable Gulf beach, surf fishing, and beachcombing. Matagorda Bay Nature Park, an LCRA park at the mouth of the Colorado River, adds a nature center and lighted fishing piers. Birders visit the Big Boggy and San Bernard national wildlife refuges nearby. In town, the historic Hotel Blessing and its coffee shop is a common lunch stop between outings.

The Blessing area is a shoulder-and-winter destination for many RV travelers. Fall through spring bring the most comfortable temperatures, lower humidity than summer, and strong fishing. Winter draws snowbirds from northern states and Canada, so monthly and seasonal rates at private parks book up from November into March. Summer is hot and humid, with daily highs in the low 90s Fahrenheit and heat indices often well above 100. Afternoon sea breezes help along the coast, but shade is limited at most bay- and Gulf-side sites. This is also the busiest weekend season for Texas families, so Friday and Saturday nights at bay-front parks fill early. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with peak activity from August into October. Watch National Hurricane Center advisories, and expect that mandatory evacuations of the Matagorda Peninsula and low-lying coastal roads can close beach access and campgrounds on short notice.

Expect flat, open coastal terrain. Sites are typically level with concrete or gravel pads, and most parks accept big rigs with 30 and 50 amp service, full hookups, and on-site or nearby dump stations. Shade is limited at bay- and Gulf-side parks, so awnings and window covers help in warm months. Cell coverage is generally reliable in town and along the main highways, but can be spotty on the Matagorda Peninsula. Groceries, fuel, propane, and RV supplies are easiest in Bay City and Palacios; Blessing itself is small, so plan to stock up before arrival. Mosquitoes and biting flies can be heavy after rain and in the warmer months, especially near marshes. Bring repellent, and secure trash. Coastal winds can be strong; check awnings before leaving the site.
