Campgrounds near Chandler, Texas
Chandler sits in East Texas on State Highway 31, at the northern end of Lake Palestine where the Neches River enters the reservoir. The lake covers roughly 25,560 acres with about 135 miles of shoreline across Anderson, Cherokee, Henderson, and Smith counties, and Tyler lies about 15 miles east on Highway 31. That location puts RV renters within reach of both the lake and the larger Tyler metro area for supplies, groceries, and services.
Most camping options near Chandler are private, lake-oriented RV parks rather than federal or state facilities. Lake Palestine Gateway RV Park operates full-hookup sites near the Neches River, and Flat Creek Marina and RV Camping combines waterfront RV sites with a marina and boat slips. We RV Champions of Tyler, The Old Homeplace RV Village, and Trails End RV Camp round out the nearby inventory for renters looking for a base within a short drive of the lake.
For a public-land option, Tyler State Park lies north of Tyler off FM 14 and is bookable through the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system.
Things to do near Chandler
Lake Palestine is the primary draw. The reservoir supports largemouth bass, white bass, hybrid striped bass, crappie, and channel, blue, and flathead catfish, and hosts bass tournaments through the year. Five public boat launches plus additional private marinas and campground ramps provide water access, and quiet coves make the lake usable for kayaking, paddling, and waterskiing.
On shore, area waterfront parks along the Neches offer trails and kayak launches. Tyler State Park, a short drive north of Tyler off FM 14, adds pine-forest hiking, mountain biking, a small lake for swimming, and boat rentals with a low-horsepower motor limit. Downtown Tyler and the monthly First Monday Trade Days in Canton are both within easy day-trip range.

The Chandler and Lake Palestine area has a humid subtropical climate with mild winters and hot, muggy summers. Winters are short and generally mild with many sunny days, though nighttime lows can drop below freezing from November through March and occasional cold snaps push temperatures lower. Winter camping is workable at full-hookup parks that stay open year-round, and Lake Palestine remains fishable in cooler months, with hybrid stripers and white bass active from the dam upstream.
Spring is the busiest stretch for anglers. The white bass run up the Neches River and Kickapoo Creek draws crowds from late winter into spring, and bass tournaments fill weekend calendars. May is the wettest month, averaging near 4.7 inches of rain with thunderstorms common, so site selection and drainage matter.
Summer brings heat, humidity, and heavy demand for lakeside sites; shaded pads and full hookups with 50-amp service are worth prioritizing for air conditioning. Fall cools gradually and is a strong window for RV trips, with lower crowds at Tyler State Park after its March through November busy season winds down.

How to book near Chandler
Private RV parks around Lake Palestine handle their own reservations directly. Lake Palestine Gateway RV Park, Flat Creek Marina and RV Camping, We RV Champions of Tyler, The Old Homeplace RV Village, and Trails End RV Camp each take bookings by phone or through their own websites, and waterfront sites at marina properties tend to go first for spring bass season and summer holiday weekends.
Tyler State Park is reserved through the Texas State Parks system operated by Texas Parks and Wildlife, either online or by phone. Campsites and cabins can be booked up to five months in advance, and the park often reaches capacity on weekends between March and Thanksgiving, so early booking is strongly recommended. A two-night minimum applies to Friday and Saturday reservations, with a three-night minimum on holiday weekends.
What to expect on the ground
Roads into the Chandler-area parks are paved and generally friendly to larger rigs. Private lake parks around Lake Palestine offer a mix of full-hookup sites with 20-, 30-, and 50-amp service, level pads, and pull-through options that can handle longer rigs, and marina properties like Flat Creek Marina and RV Camping include waterfront sites with room to tie up a boat.
Tyler State Park is more forested and hillier. Reviewers note narrow interior roads and back-in sites that can be tight for larger RVs, and some lakeview sites need side-to-side leveling. RV campers are asked to bring jack pads. Raccoons are active in the campground and food should be stored inside. Cell coverage is reliable through Chandler and Tyler and can be spottier deep inside the state park.

No commercial driver's license or special RV endorsement is required for any motorhome or travel trailer you will find on RVezy, even larger Class A rigs. Approved drivers generally need to be at least 25 years old, and you will verify your ID through the RVezy platform during booking, which usually takes just a few minutes. Visiting from abroad? Flat Creek Marina and Lake Palestine Gateway RV Park both welcome four-legged guests. Tyler State Park (20 miles north) has a public dump station available to overnight guests, and there are pay-to-use dump stations at several truck stops along I-20 near Lindale, about 20 minutes from Chandler. Always use a potable water hose (usually white) for filling fresh tanks, and a separate sewer hose for dumping. Pro tip: ask your host to demo the dump process at pickup, it's the one thing most first-timers want to see done before doing it themselves.
