Campgrounds near Crosbyton, Texas
Crosbyton sits on U.S. Highway 82 in Crosby County, roughly 40 miles east of Lubbock on the eastern edge of the Llano Estacado. The town serves as a practical base for RV travelers heading to White River Reservoir, which was impounded in 1963 to supply water to Post, Spur, Ralls, and Crosbyton through the White River Municipal Water District.
White River Reservoir sits about 16 to 25 miles southeast of Crosbyton and is the main draw for campers in the area. The lake covers roughly 1,418 acres and offers picnic areas, four camping areas, and two RV areas with water and electricity hookups managed by the White River Municipal Water District. Named campgrounds include White River Reservoir Marina - WRMWD and River Crest Road - WRMWD on the lake itself.
In town and along Highway 82, WinGen RV Park and Twin Pine RV Park handle full-hookup stays for travelers passing through. Roaring Springs Ranch Club Inc, a private, member-owned club property in Motley County northeast of Crosbyton, offers camping to members and their guests on 746 acres with a spring-fed pool and nine-hole golf course.
Things to do near Crosbyton
Fishing is the headline activity at White River Reservoir. Largemouth bass fishing is strong, the lake has produced a ShareLunker fish, and walleye are stocked regularly with a peak bite from April through June. Structure is primarily rock with flooded brush, and spring is generally the best window for bass on spinnerbaits and suspending baits.
Beyond fishing, the reservoir has newly expanded OHV and ATV trails around the lake perimeter, along with boating, swimming, and picnicking. Vehicles are kept back from the shoreline, so waterfront parking is not permitted and gear has to be carried down.
Off the lake, travelers can explore Blanco Canyon, the Silver Falls roadside area near Crosbyton, and small-town stops in Ralls, Spur, and Post along the Caprock Escarpment.

The area sits at roughly 3,000 feet elevation on the South Plains and has a semi-arid climate with hot summers, short but cold winters, and dry, windy shoulder seasons. Camping is workable year-round at in-town RV parks, but the lake experience shifts sharply with the calendar.
Spring, roughly March through May, is the busiest fishing window. Largemouth bass move shallow and over 90 percent of walleye harvested from White River are caught between April and June. Afternoon thunderstorms, hail, and strong wind are common risks in late spring. Summer brings hot, mostly clear days with highs regularly in the 90s Fahrenheit and occasional heavy thunderstorms.
Fall cools quickly and offers comfortable camping through October, with lake use tapering off. Winter is short but genuinely cold at night, with occasional snow and freezing spells. Lake levels at White River fluctuate severely, typically 4 to 10 feet annually, so checking current conditions and ramp status before travel matters.
How to book campgrounds near Crosbyton
Camping at White River Reservoir is managed by the White River Municipal Water District through the lake marina, not through the Texas state park reservation system. A recreation permit is required for lake users, and RV sites with water and electricity are limited, so calling the marina ahead is the reliable path to a hookup site.
Roaring Springs Ranch Club is a private, member-owned club with roughly 164 campsites across five campgrounds. Guests can camp when accompanied by a member, and membership requires a one-time initial fee plus quarterly dues. Reservations and questions go directly to the club office.
Smaller in-town options such as WinGen RV Park and Twin Pine RV Park generally take direct phone reservations, with walk-ups possible during shoulder seasons.
What to expect
This is rural West Texas. Expect wide open plains, sparse vegetation, strong prevailing wind, and long sightlines rather than dense forest. Cell coverage is decent along Highway 82 but can thin out at the lake and on ranch roads.
At White River Reservoir, facilities are basic. The two RV areas offer water and electricity only, restrooms and a cleaning station serve the camping loops, and the marina stocks limited essentials. Water levels can be low, visibility is often turbid, and drought conditions may affect ramp access.
Roaring Springs Ranch Club has a more resort-like feel with a spring-fed pool, playground, golf course, and ATV trails, but access requires member sponsorship. In-town RV parks in Crosbyton are compact and suited to shorter overnight stops rather than long stays.
