Campgrounds near Dawson, Texas
Dawson sits in southern Navarro County in North Central Texas, roughly halfway between Dallas and Waco along the SH 31 corridor. The town is a practical staging point for RV trips centered on Richland-Chambers Reservoir to the east, Navarro Mills Lake to the west, and Fort Parker State Park to the south. Interstate 45 runs a short drive east, keeping the area accessible for renters driving in from the DFW metroplex or Houston.
Most overnight options within a short drive are privately operated RV parks with full hookups, plus one Texas Parks and Wildlife state park within reach for renters who want lake access and hiking. Patriot RV Park and BATL Ranch RV Resort serve travelers staying close to Dawson itself, while Corsicana Texas Eclipse Park and City Limits RV Resort are set near Corsicana for shopping, groceries, and fuel. The Grove at Fort Parker is the closest option to Fort Parker State Park for renters who plan to spend most of their time on the water.
Expect flat blackland-prairie terrain, big open sky, and warm-weather seasons that stretch well into fall.
Things to do near Dawson
Fort Parker State Park offers a 750-acre lake with two boat ramps (one on the river and one on Fort Parker Lake) and a fish cleaning station. Paddlers can take the 5.3-mile Limestone Bluffs Paddling Trail, which covers both Fort Parker Lake and the Navasota River. About seven miles of trails are open for hiking and biking, including the short Bur Oak Trail for local flora and lakeside routes for water views.
Richland-Chambers Reservoir, a short drive from Dawson, is one of the larger lakes in Texas and sits less than 15 miles from Corsicana. It is popular for fishing (white and hybrid striped bass, largemouth bass, catfish), plus boating, water skiing, and tubing in designated areas. Navarro Mills Lake to the west has additional boat ramps and shoreline access.
In Corsicana, the Pearce Museum at Navarro College and the historic downtown blocks around the Palace Theater are easy day-trip stops.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel around Dawson. March through May brings mild days, wildflowers, and frequent thunderstorms, so check radar before crossing low-water areas near the Navasota River and lake tributaries. September through mid-November delivers comfortable temperatures with lower humidity, which suits longer stays. October is historically the single wettest month, so keep rain gear handy even in fall.
Summer is hot and humid. August is typically the hottest month, with average highs near 96°F and lows in the low 70s, and heat index values often push past 100. Lakefront sites with hookups fill fastest on holiday weekends, especially around Richland-Chambers, so book early if traveling in June through August. Afternoon thunderstorms are common and can bring brief but strong winds.
Winters are mild but variable. January is the coldest month, with average highs near 58°F and lows around 36°F. Hard freezes happen but rarely last long. Several private parks in the area cater to snowbirds and stay open year-round, while some state park facilities can close temporarily for maintenance, so verify status before arrival.

The RV was as advertised everything works and didn’t get to meet Dan but his son Andrew explained everything.

Dan and his teardrop are amazing!!! First - Dan - great communication, explained all the parts and best uses for the trailer, as well as any possible issues. Had all possible connectors, made sure everything was working, and that we were comfortable before handing the trailer over. Extremely accommodating when we needed to make changes! Second - Trailer - is awesome! Best sleep we have had camping (and we are glampers!), the microwave came in so handy when cooking, electrical hook-ups and plugs made everything so convenient, and the ceramic heater available to plug in made it comfortable inside while it was in freezing temperatures outside! We look forward to renting again! Also, so lucky this trailer is towable by our Honda CR-V!

This was the first time using RVezy and I’m glad I chose Kris and his RV. He set it up on time and was available for anything that may have come up. Having said that the RV was perfect for our two days using it and we will be utilizing Kris again.

Great trailer. It had a maintenance issue because of the freeze, but Kris fixed them straight away.

How to book RV sites near Dawson
Fort Parker State Park can reach capacity, and reservations are strongly recommended for both camping and day use. Book Texas state park sites through the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system online or by phone; individual campsites at Fort Parker can be reserved up to five months in advance. No-shows are cancelled if the party does not check in by the morning after the scheduled arrival, so call the park or the Customer Service Center if arrival will be late.
Private parks such as Patriot RV Park, BATL Ranch RV Resort, Corsicana Texas Eclipse Park, City Limits RV Resort, and The Grove at Fort Parker each handle their own bookings. Reserve directly through the operator or through an RV rental platform. Weekends near the lakes go fast in peak season, so lock in dates several weeks out.
What to expect on arrival
Most private parks near Dawson offer full hookups, level gravel or concrete pads, and pull-through sites suitable for larger rigs. Cell coverage is generally reliable along I-45 and near Corsicana, weaker in rural pockets around the lakes. Grocery, fuel, and propane are easiest to find in Corsicana.
At Fort Parker State Park, there are 24 sites with water and 30-amp electric hookups, four of which are pull-through for larger rigs, plus additional water-only sites geared toward tents. Sites sit around the lake's edge and most are near a restroom with showers. Cabins have air conditioning but no beds or private bathrooms, and pets are not allowed in the screened shelter or cabin areas.
Bring bug spray in warm months, a surge protector, and shade or awning gear. Summer sun on the prairie is intense.
