Central Texas has a long camping season, but timing matters. Spring, from March through May, delivers the most comfortable weather along with the region's peak wildflower display and the wettest month of the year. May is the month with the most rainfall in Florence, when rain falls for about 15 days and typically aggregates around 88 mm of precipitation. Storms can be severe, and rigs with awnings should watch forecasts closely.
Summer runs hot and often humid. August stands out as the warmest month in Florence, with average temperatures fluctuating between a high near 95.9°F and a low near 75.6°F. Lakefront sites at Lake Georgetown book up on holiday weekends, so reserve early and plan for shade and water play.
Fall cools quickly after October and is a favorite for RVers who prefer mild days without the summer crowds. Winters are short and mostly mild, which is why the area attracts Winter Texans, though hard freezes and occasional ice storms do occur. Jim Hogg Park and Russell Park close annually for maintenance in late January through mid-February.

How to book campgrounds near Florence
Private RV parks around Florence, including Country Oasis RV Park, Red Barn Ranch RV Park, Stone Oak Ranch RV Park, Rio Bonito RV Park and Cabin Resort, and Valley View RV Park, generally take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Long stays are common in this area, so weekly and monthly availability can be tighter than nightly.
Public campgrounds use a separate system. Reservations for campsites at Lake Georgetown can be made through Recreation.gov or by calling 877-444-6777, and a valid pass, online payment, or camping reservation is required for entry into Cedar Breaks, Jim Hogg, and Russell Parks, with payment no longer accepted at the gate houses. For Texas state parks, most overnight camping or lodging reservations may be reserved up to five months in advance.
What to expect on the ground
Roads into Florence are two-lane rural highways such as US 183, SH 195, and FM 970, with easy shoulders and no tight urban maneuvering, which suits larger fifth-wheels and motorhomes. Cell coverage is generally solid on major routes and thinner on ranch roads. Groceries, fuel, and propane are easiest to reach in Liberty Hill, Killeen, or Georgetown.
Private parks in the area lean toward full hookups with 30/50-amp service and mature shade. Every site at Country Oasis RV Park includes full hookups: water, sewer, and 30/50-amp electric service.
At Corps of Engineers parks on Lake Georgetown, expect picnic pavilions, fire rings, and lake access. Jim Hogg Park has 148 sites with approximately one-half being heavily wooded, and both Cedar Breaks and Jim Hogg offer electric and water hookups for RVs.
