Camping near Franklin, Texas
Franklin sits in Robertson County in east-central Texas, roughly midway between Waco and College Station along US-79. It serves as a practical base for RV travelers heading to Lake Limestone, the Navasota River bottoms, and the small-town Brazos Valley. The county seat centers on a historic courthouse square, with the Franklin Drive-Thru Safari and Lake Limestone drawing most day-trip traffic.
RV options in the immediate area lean toward small, independent parks rather than resort-style destinations. Franklin Oasis RV Park and Central Texas RV Park sit closest to town, while Route 6 RV Park and Brazos Trail RV Park - Hearne offer additional hookup capacity for travelers moving along the US-190 and SH-6 corridors through nearby Hearne. Hilltop Lakes Indian Wood Campground, west of Franklin near the Hilltop Lakes resort community, adds a wooded, lake-adjacent option.
Most sites in this area are full-hookup, big-rig friendly, and set up for pass-through travelers between Dallas and Houston or College Station and Waco.
Things to do around Franklin
Lake Limestone, north of town, anchors most outdoor plans. The lake is known for crappie and largemouth bass, with public bank access at Brazos River Authority parks and boat ramps at private marinas. The Navasota River offers quiet paddling stretches through pastureland south and east of town.
In town, the historic courthouse square and local barbecue stops fill an afternoon. The Franklin Drive-Thru Safari, located off Highway 79 between Franklin and Hearne, is the main family attraction, with resident animals viewable from the vehicle. Day trips reach Waco Mammoth National Monument and the museums of Bryan-College Station, both within about an hour's drive. Robertson County also hosts an annual county fair with rodeo events, livestock shows, and carnival rides.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel around Franklin. Daytime highs stay in the seventies and low eighties, and wildflowers along US-79 and FM roads peak in April. May is the wettest month of the year at the nearest long-term station in College Station, averaging roughly 108 mm of rainfall, so low-lying sites and river bottoms can be susceptible to flooding after prolonged storms.
Summer is hot and humid. August daytime highs at College Station average near 96°F, with heat indices routinely higher, so shaded sites and 50-amp service for air conditioning become priorities. Afternoon thunderstorms are common but usually brief. This is also the season Lake Limestone marinas are busiest.
Winters are mild but variable. January lows average in the low forties, hard freezes are occasional rather than sustained, and measurable snow is rare. Some private parks reduce hours or amenities through the coldest weeks, and a few lakeside operations close for the season before reopening in early spring.
How to book RV sites near Franklin
Private parks in and around Franklin, including Franklin Oasis RV Park, Central Texas RV Park, Brazos Trail RV Park - Hearne, and Route 6 RV Park, typically take reservations by phone or through their own websites rather than a central portal. Weekday availability is generally easier than weekends, especially during Texas A&M football weekends when demand from College Station overflows outward.
Lake Limestone properties and Hilltop Lakes Indian Wood Campground book further ahead for holiday weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day, and often require a deposit at booking with the balance due at check-in. Brazos River Authority parks on the lake are primitive and largely first-come for tent and self-contained sites.
For Texas State Parks in the broader region, reservations run through the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system and open up to five months in advance.
What to expect on the ground
Expect small, owner-operated parks rather than large resorts. Sites are typically full-hookup with 30 and 50 amp service, gravel or grass pads, and a mix of pull-through and back-in layouts. Big rigs are generally accommodated, but a few older parks have tight interior roads, so confirming length and slide clearance at booking is worthwhile.
Cell coverage along US-79 and SH-6 is reliable on the major carriers, and Wi-Fi is available at most private parks though speeds vary. Grocery and fuel stops are concentrated in Franklin and Hearne; larger shopping trips require a run to Bryan-College Station or Waco.
At lakeside and rural sites, plan for insects in the warmer months, a certified RV surge protector during storm season, and shade awareness in summer. Sites without tree cover heat up quickly by mid-morning from June through September.

They will level it, connect water, power, and sewer, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts offering this service. Delivery to nearby Lake Limestone is a favorite for stress-free fishing weekends.

texasstateparks.reserveamerica.com/When is the best time of year for an RV trip from Franklin, TX?
Spring and fall are the sweet spots for RV camping Franklin adventurers love. Mid-March through May brings wildflowers (bluebonnets line rural Robertson County roads), comfortable highs in the 70s and low 80s, and lower humidity. Late September through November is equally pleasant, with cooler nights for campfires and daytime temps in the 70s. weather.gov/hgx/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
You will be more than okay. Many RVezy guests in Franklin are first-timers, and hosts know how to set you up for success. At pickup or delivery, your host gives a full walkthrough: slide-outs, water system, propane, generator, awning, and AC. They will share their phone number so you can text questions mid-trip. Franklin's quiet two-lane roads like Highway 79 are a great place to get comfortable behind the wheel before heading to busier highways. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002180054-For-rentersWhat happens if something breaks down during my trip?
You are never stranded. Every motorhome rental Franklin booking through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing. Your host is also typically a quick text away for questions about how something works (sometimes it is just a tripped breaker on the generator). RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate at pickup to speed up any roadside call.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Franklin RV rental across state lines or into Mexico?
Yes to most U.S. states, no to Mexico. An RV road trip from Franklin into Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, or New Mexico is common. Popular routes include Franklin to New Orleans (about 480 miles east) and Franklin to Big Bend National Park (about 580 miles west). Travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection coverage do not extend across the border. For cross-state trips, confirm your route with the host when you book so mileage and travel days line up. The drive from Franklin to Hot Springs, Arkansas (around 430 miles) makes a fantastic 4-day loop.

Expect roughly 8 to 10 MPG for a Class A, 10 to 14 MPG for a Class C, 14 to 18 MPG for a Class B campervan, and 10 to 14 MPG for a truck towing a travel trailer. Check current Gulf Coast pump prices from the U.S. Energy Information Administration before your trip to estimate accurately. For a 300-mile weekend loop around Lake Limestone and Waco, plan on roughly $80 to $150 in fuel. Buc-ee's in Madisonville (about 28 miles south) usually has competitive prices.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Franklin, TX?
For the best spots, book early. Private parks around Lake Limestone and Bryan/College Station typically book 4 to 8 weeks ahead, though mid-week stays are often available last-minute. Football weekends in College Station (Texas A&M home games) are the exception: those go fast within a 60-mile radius. Pair your Franklin RV rental with a Sunday-through-Thursday stay to score same-week reservations at popular waterfront sites.
texasstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the driving conditions like around Franklin, TX?
Franklin and Robertson County are some of the easiest places in Texas to drive a motorhome. Highway 79 (the main route through town), OSR (Old San Antonio Road), and nearby I-45 are flat, wide, and rarely congested, with no mountain grades or tight switchbacks. Watch for occasional deer at dawn and dusk on rural FM roads (this is prime whitetail country), and summer thunderstorms can drop heavy rain quickly between June and September. If you head into Austin or Houston, avoid weekday rush hour (7 to 9 AM and 4 to 7 PM). Fuel up before leaving Franklin or Hearne when heading west on OSR.

Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, camp chairs, and a generator for off-grid stays. Wi-Fi varies, and some hosts provide a mobile hotspot as an add-on. Payment is simple and fully online, with no cash exchanged with the host. When you book your RV rental in Franklin, you pay through RVezy's secure platform using a credit or debit card. Your nightly rate, taxes, protection plan, and any add-ons are itemized at checkout. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) and is released after your trip once the RV is returned in good condition. To avoid disputes, do a quick walkthrough video at pickup and drop-off with your host: it protects both of you.
