Campgrounds and RV parks near Ganado, TX

Water recreation is the main draw. Lake Texana, formed by Palmetto Bend Dam on the Navidad River, offers roughly 10,000 to 11,000 acres of surface water and about 125 miles of shoreline, with year-round fishing for largemouth bass, white bass, crappie, and blue, channel, and flathead catfish. Multiple public boat ramps ring the reservoir, operated by the Lavaca-Navidad River Authority, including access points off U.S. 59, State Highway 111, and State Highway 172 south of Ganado. On land, the Brackenridge Recreation Complex across the lake includes hiking and biking trails, disc golf, mini-golf, an equestrian center, and sports fields. Ganado itself keeps things low-key: historic churches, the KJT Hall, a small downtown, and the neighboring town of Edna for a supermarket, Walmart, and restaurants.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel around Ganado. March through May brings warm days and active fishing, and wildflowers with mild overnight lows make March and April especially popular. Sites at LNRA-managed parks on Lake Texana can book out weeks ahead on holiday weekends and around fishing tournaments. Summer is hot and humid. August is the hottest month, with average highs near 95 degrees Fahrenheit, and heat indexes run higher along the coast. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, and the peak threat for the Texas coast falls in August and September. September is also the wettest month of the year in the Ganado area, averaging around 3.5 inches of rain. Tropical systems can force short-notice closures at LNRA parks and coastal campgrounds, so travelers should monitor National Hurricane Center outlooks during those months. Winters are mild. Freezes are brief, measurable snow is essentially absent, and January highs still average in the low 60s, which makes the area a viable snowbird corridor between the Gulf Coast and the Valley.

Ganado-area campgrounds trend rural and quiet. Expect gravel or concrete pads, mowed grass buffers, and mixed shade from live oaks and pecans. Cell service and Wi-Fi can be spotty at lakefront sites, and connections vary by carrier once away from Highway 59. At LNRA parks on Lake Texana, entrance gates are typically locked after hours and secured with a keypad, so plan to arrive during staffed hours. Sites inherited from the former state park layout at Texana Park can be shorter than modern big-rig pads, and highway noise from State Highway 111 carries into some loops at Brackenridge. Wildlife sightings are common, including deer, armadillos, raccoons, and alligators in the lake itself. Bring insect repellent for mosquitoes, especially after spring rains, and shade or awning gear for open sites.
