Campgrounds near Goliad
Goliad sits along the San Antonio River in South Texas, roughly midway between San Antonio and the Gulf Coast. It is one of the few places in North America where an 18th-century Spanish-Colonial mission and presidio complex still stands, and its state park draws RV travelers who want history alongside river-side camping.
Options cluster in two zones. Right in town, Goliad State Park operates the Karankawa - Goliad State Park loop, the park's main RV area with water, electric, and sewer service on pull-through sites. Private parks nearby include Angels in Goliad RV Park and Southbound RV Park and Cabins, which serve travelers who want quick access to the courthouse square, restaurants, and Presidio La Bahia.
About fifteen miles east, Coleto Creek Reservoir and Park Guadalupe-Blanco River Auth and the nearby Victoria Coleto Lake RV Resort put campers close to a 3,100-acre reservoir with a lighted fishing pier, boat ramp, and swimming area. That side is better for water recreation; the in-town side is better for history and walkability.
Things to do around Goliad
History is the anchor. Mission Espiritu Santo, restored by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, sits inside Goliad State Park along with a museum and visitor center. Presidio La Bahia, the Fannin Memorial Monument, and the Angel of Goliad statue are within walking or short driving distance, and the restored county courthouse anchors the downtown square.
Outdoors, the park offers the Goliad Paddling Trail on the San Antonio River, the Angel of Goliad Hike and Bike Trail connecting the park to downtown, plus fishing and a bird blind. At Coleto Creek Reservoir, campers use the boat ramp, a lighted fishing pier, a nature trail, and a marked swimming area. Alligators are present in the reservoir's quieter coves, so caution applies.

December - February
64° / 48°F 46 mmPeak camping season; mild days, cool nights, sites fill fast
Peak season runs from late fall through early spring, when mild days and cool nights make campsites at Goliad State Park fill quickly on weekends. Shoulder months in October, November, April, and May tend to offer the best mix of open sites, warm-but-not-oppressive temperatures, and, in spring, bluebonnets along the river.
Summer in South Texas is hot and humid, with afternoon highs commonly in the mid-90s and heat indices higher. Shade is available on many Karankawa sites, but heat is the dominant planning factor from June through August. Mosquitoes are worst along the river during rainy stretches, so insect repellent is essential.
Rising water on the San Antonio River occasionally closes the paddling dock and portions of the campground at Goliad State Park, and Gulf tropical systems can bring heavy rain from June through November. Reservation holders should check park alerts before arrival and watch the National Hurricane Center outlook during hurricane season.
How to book campgrounds near Goliad
Sites at Karankawa - Goliad State Park are booked through the Texas State Parks reservation system, online or by phone through the customer service center. Campsites can be reserved up to five months in advance, and day-use entry may need to be reserved separately. The park often reaches capacity on weekends, so booking ahead is recommended. Check-in is 2 p.m., checkout is noon, and no-shows are cancelled by noon the day after the scheduled arrival.
Coleto Creek Reservoir and Park Guadalupe-Blanco River Auth is reserved directly with the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority, online or by phone, up to twelve months in advance. A one-night deposit is required within ten days, holiday weekends carry minimum-stay requirements, and the park gate is locked from midnight to 6 a.m. Private parks such as Angels in Goliad RV Park, Southbound RV Park and Cabins, and Victoria Coleto Lake RV Resort take reservations directly.
What to expect on-site
At Goliad State Park, the Karankawa loop offers pull-through sites with 30 and 50-amp service, water, and sewer, plus screened shelters near the playground. Sites are shaded by mature trees, which is a real benefit in South Texas. Restrooms and showers are older but generally clean, and the park gate opens at 8 a.m. and locks at 10 p.m.
Coleto Creek Reservoir and Park has 59 full-hookup sites with 20/30/50-amp service and 20 multi-use sites, along with paved roads, a group pavilion area, and a dump station. Big rigs are accommodated on pull-through sites. Pets must be leashed or secured in the camping unit and are not allowed at cabin sites.
Bring insect repellent, sun protection, and extra fans for screened shelters. Cell coverage is generally reliable in and near town, and downtown Goliad and nearby Victoria cover most resupply needs.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Goliad, TX
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Goliad, TX?
An RV rental in Goliad is one of the most affordable ways to explore South Texas, with nightly rates typically ranging from about $90 for a travel trailer to $250+ for a Class A motorhome. Because Goliad is a small historic town rather than a major pickup hub, prices tend to run lower than rentals in San Antonio or Houston. To score a cheap RV rental in Goliad, book midweek, travel during the shoulder seasons of April to May or October to November, and use RVezy's filters to sort by price and instant book. Pro tip: hosts often offer weekly discounts of 10 to 20 percent, so a 7-day Goliad RV trip can be a real bargain compared to hotel stays.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Goliad%2C%20TexasDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Goliad, TX?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Goliad for virtually every rig on RVezy. Texas only requires a non-commercial Class B license for single vehicles over 26,000 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight Rating, and the vast majority of Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, and travel trailers on the platform fall well under that limit. Approved RVezy renters are generally 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the booking flow. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home license and you're set for your Goliad RV trip.

It isn't traditional auto insurance, but it provides substantial financial protection that takes the stress out of a first motorhome rental in Goliad. Booking is low-risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy, and there is a grace-period window after booking where you can get a full refund. After that, refunds depend on how far out from your trip you cancel. You will see the exact terms before you confirm payment. If a tropical system is brewing in the Gulf during your planned RV camping Goliad dates, reach out to RVezy support early, the team handles weather-related changes regularly. Pro tip: if your host cancels on you, RVezy issues a refund or travel credit so your trip plans stay protected.

Yes, RV delivery in Goliad is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you are a first-time renter. Use the Delivery filter and enter your destination address to see which hosts serve your spot and what they charge. Pro tip: delivery to Goliad State Park is especially popular because the host handles the tricky parking and setup for you.

Otherwise hosts typically include 100 to 150 free miles per night and charge roughly $0.30 to $0.45 for each additional mile. Goliad sits at a sweet-spot crossroads: San Antonio is about 90 miles northwest, Corpus Christi about 70 miles south, Houston about 155 miles northeast, and Austin about 160 miles north. Pro tip: if you are planning a longer RV road trip from Goliad out to Big Bend or South Padre Island, filter for unlimited mileage upfront, it almost always saves money on multi-day loops.

US-59 and US-183 are the main arteries, both well-maintained highways. Avoid travel during a Gulf hurricane watch. Pro tip: Goliad's historic downtown square around the 1894 courthouse is RV-friendly with diagonal parking on Market Day, but big rigs are happier parked at Goliad State Park.
