Camping near Holland, Texas
Holland is a small town in Bell County, Central Texas, positioned between Temple and Belton and within easy driving distance of two large Army Corps of Engineers reservoirs: Belton Lake and Stillhouse Hollow Lake. Belton Lake was created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with the construction of Belton Dam in 1954. The 12,300-acre lake sits on the Leon River, just upstream of the confluence of the Leon River and the Little River, and is a long, narrow, winding reservoir with many curves and coves that support camping, fishing, and boating in Central Texas.
RV travelers staying near Holland typically split their options between full-hookup private parks in Belton and Temple and Corps-managed lakeside campgrounds. Gather Campground Bell County, Belton RV Park, Tranquil Gardens RV Park, and Retreat at 971 RV Park sit closer to town and the I-35 corridor, while Family Adventure Camp at Tahuaya offers a lake-adjacent property with mixed accommodations.
Bell County is also home to Stillhouse Hollow Lake and the Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area. Both lakes are within about 30 minutes of Holland, making the area a practical base for a family RV trip focused on water and outdoors.
Things to do near Holland
Water recreation is the main draw. Belton Lake is popular for hybrid striped bass, largemouth bass, white bass, catfish, and sunfish, and many visitors come for boating, jet skiing, kayaking, and other water sports. Corps parks around the lake provide boat ramps, swim beaches, and shoreline access.
Hiking is easy to add on. Miller Springs Nature Area sits below Belton Dam and includes a hiking trail along the Leon River, a restored historic bridge, and several wildlife-viewing points. Chalk Ridge Falls, below the Stillhouse Hollow Lake Dam, has trails along the Lampasas River with a spring-fed creek, a waterfall, and bridges.
Families traveling with kids can add swim-beach time at Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area, or on-site programming at Family Adventure Camp at Tahuaya.

Central Texas has a long camping shoulder season. The region has hot summers and mild winters, and spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel, with mild days and cool nights. Spring also brings the wettest months and the risk of severe thunderstorms.
Summer is peak season at the lakes. Belton Lake is a popular camping destination during summer and reservations are limited, so plan the stay in advance to help secure a campsite. Expect hot afternoons, crowded boat ramps on weekends and holidays, and full campgrounds well ahead of arrival.
Winter camping is workable but limited at some Corps parks. Cedar Ridge Park is open year-round, but from October 1 through March 1, campsites 1-40 and all screened shelters are not available. Westcliff Park and White Flint Park close for the winter season from October 1 through March 1, with boat ramps remaining open year-round. Live Oak Ridge stays open year-round, with ten sites closed from October 1 through March 1.

How to book a campsite
Corps of Engineers parks around Belton Lake, including Cedar Ridge, Live Oak Ridge, Westcliff, White Flint, and Winkler, are booked through the federal reservation system. Reservations are made at www.recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777. Recreation.gov generally uses a six-month rolling window that opens new dates daily at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time, though individual facilities can set shorter windows, so check the specific campground page.
Private parks near Holland, including Gather Campground Bell County, Belton RV Park, Tranquil Gardens RV Park, and Retreat at 971 RV Park, are booked directly through each operator's website. Family Adventure Camp at Tahuaya takes reservations through its own site.
At Corps parks, check-in is 3 p.m. and check-out is 2 p.m., camping is limited to 14 days in any 30-consecutive-day period, and gate codes arrive with the Recreation.gov confirmation email.
What to expect on-site
Corps campgrounds around Belton Lake are developed but not resort-style. Cedar Ridge, Live Oak Ridge, Westcliff, and White Flint are the four fully developed campgrounds offering RV sites, with some also offering tent camping, screened shelters, and day-use facilities. Winkler Park accepts both tent and RV users but has no electrical service. Sites typically have water and electric hookups, a covered picnic table, and a charcoal grill, and range from heavily shaded to sun. Sewer hookups at the site are uncommon; most parks provide a dump station instead.
Several parks have gated entrances with entry codes, so reservations must be completed before arrival. Bring a credit card, since Corps parks do not accept cash or check, and expect strict rules on gray-water discharge and off-road vehicles. Springtime brings wildflowers, and deer and Rio Grande turkey are commonly seen.
