RV camping near Lorenzo, Texas
Lorenzo sits on the South Plains of West Texas, about 20 miles east of Lubbock in Crosby County. The town is small and largely agricultural, so most RV travelers base their trip out of the Lubbock metro area, which is close enough to reach in roughly half an hour by highway and offers the region's fullest range of services, groceries, and repair shops.
The closest full-service recreation option is Buffalo Springs Lake Campground, a lakeside park southeast of Lubbock with RV hookups, a marina, and swim beaches. For travelers who prefer a straightforward hookup site close to town, Cotton Land RV Park, Twin Pine RV Park, Lubbock RV Park, and American RV Park all sit within the Lubbock area and cater to overnight and extended stays.
The surrounding landscape is flat, semi-arid plains country cut by shallow canyons and playas. Elevation is close to 3,300 feet, which keeps summer nights cooler than in central Texas and gives the area strong sun and wide skies year round.
Things to do around Lorenzo
Buffalo Springs Lake offers RV and tent camping along with the Buffalo Bay Marina with lakeside rentals and two beaches, and visitors can enjoy the water by boat, jet ski, canoe, or kayak, plus onsite ATV trails, nature trails, concerts, and fishing. Weekends can be busy with live music and a social crowd.
Lubbock itself adds indoor and cultural options for rainy or hot afternoons. The Buddy Holly Center, the National Ranching Heritage Center, and the Museum of Texas Tech University are all family friendly and easy to combine with a lake day.
For a longer drive, Caprock Canyons State Park and Palo Duro Canyon State Park lie within a few hours and give RV travelers dramatic canyon scenery, bison herds at Caprock, and additional hiking and horseback options.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel on the South Plains. Daytime highs typically sit in the seventies through much of April, October, and early November, and nights are cool but rarely freezing. Rains occur mainly in the form of afternoon and evening thunderstorms, sometimes accompanied by hail, in late spring and summer, so April and May trips should watch the forecast for severe weather.
Summer is hot and sunny. Afternoon highs frequently push into the low nineties from June through August, and June is typically the wettest month, averaging close to three inches of rain. Shade is limited at most area sites, so an RV with strong air conditioning is a real advantage.
Winters are cold at night and mild by day. Winter is the driest season, days are quite mild but nights drop a lot, and there may be occasional cold spells and snowfalls, but campgrounds in this region generally stay open year round with reduced weekday demand.
How to book near Lorenzo
RV and tent camping at Buffalo Springs Lake is by reservation only, and gate admission is charged per person per night in addition to the site fee. Bookings are handled through the park's website and through Campspot.
Private parks in the Lubbock area, including Cotton Land RV Park, Twin Pine RV Park, Lubbock RV Park, and American RV Park, typically take reservations by phone or through their own websites and often list availability on major aggregator platforms. For weekend stays at Buffalo Springs Lake in summer, book several weeks ahead; for weekday transient stops at the in-town parks, a few days of lead time is usually enough.
What to expect on the ground
Most RV sites near Lorenzo are open and exposed, with little natural shade. Pull-through and back-in sites are common, and full or partial hookups are standard at the parks in the Lubbock area. Cell service is generally reliable across the region.
Buffalo Springs Lake has 34 full RV hookups, 89 partial hookups, and 17 tent camping spots, along with restrooms, showers, and a marina store. Live music drifts across the water on weekend evenings, and the atmosphere leans decidedly social rather than secluded, so families who prefer quiet should target weekdays or shoulder-season dates.
Roads into the area are flat and straightforward for larger rigs, though the entrance road to Buffalo Springs Lake drops into a canyon and can be steep. Plan fueling and grocery stops in Lubbock, since options in Lorenzo itself are limited.
