Campgrounds near Lost Creek, Texas

The area blends suburban convenience with quick access to the Colorado River reservoir system, so campers can base near restaurants and grocery stores while still reaching lakefront sites in under half an hour.
Most nearby camping options cluster around Hudson Bend and the southern shore of Lake Travis. Full-hookup RV resorts such as Sun Outdoors Lake Travis and Hudson Bend RV Park Inc sit close to the water, while Lake Travis Inn and RV Park and Awkward Turtle RV Austin serve travelers who want a more compact stay near Austin's western edge.
For a lakefront experience with primitive camping, Windy Point Park is located on Lake Travis just outside of Austin, Texas, situated adjacent to Bob Wentz Park at Windy Point, a day-use park operated by the Travis County Parks department, and offers overnight camping with direct lake access.
Things to do near Lost Creek
Lake Travis is the main draw. Swimming, boating, paddleboarding, and scuba diving are all within reach. Windy Point Park offers waterfront access to Lake Travis with 1,200 feet of shoreline, and scuba diving is a major pastime with an underwater park on site. Anglers target largemouth and striped bass along the Colorado River arm of the lake.
Families staying at Sun Outdoors Lake Travis can use on-site amenities including pools, mini golf, a fitness center, clubhouse, playground, and party pavilion. Off-site, downtown Austin is roughly 20 to 30 minutes east for live music, museums, and food, while the Pedernales Falls and Hamilton Pool areas lie west for hiking and swimming holes.

The Austin area has a humid subtropical climate. Austin experiences a humid subtropical climate, characterized by hot summers and cool winters, with rainfall moderate and spread fairly evenly throughout the year, though heavy seasonal downpours or afternoon thunderstorms can sometimes occur during the warmer months. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel, and demand at lakefront parks rises sharply around holiday weekends.
Summer brings intense heat. Most summer days in Austin heat up to at least 90 degrees, and it gets much hotter on an average of 29 days a year, with temperatures reaching 100 degrees Fahrenheit or more. Shaded sites, functioning air conditioning, and access to lake swimming become important. Lake Travis levels fluctuate seasonally and during drought, which can affect boat ramps and shoreline access.
Winters are mild but not frost-free. Austin normally sees just one day each winter when the temperature doesn't rise above freezing, so pipes and hoses may need brief protection during occasional cold snaps. Thunderstorms are most active in spring, with a secondary peak in fall as tropical moisture reaches the Hill Country.

RV was great! We had a wonderful time renting it for a weekend at COTA. Jesse was very responsive and helpful anytime we needed it.

Jesse is great! This is my second time renting a camper from him and he has been very easy to work with. We were camping locally and he even stopped by to check on us the day after our departure and brought us an outdoor rug just in case we got some rain! I highly recommend him and we will certainly be using him again in the future!

How to book campgrounds near Lost Creek
Private RV resorts around Hudson Bend take reservations online. Sun Outdoors Lake Travis books through the Sun Outdoors website and Campspot, with full-hookup RV sites and cottage rentals. Awkward Turtle RV Austin, Lake Travis Inn and RV Park, and Hudson Bend RV Park Inc accept direct bookings; contact each park to confirm rig-length limits and hookup types.
Public parks work differently. Camping longer than 7 consecutive days is prohibited at Travis County Parks, and camping at one or more campsites at any Travis County Park for a period longer than 14 days during any 30-consecutive day period is prohibited. Windy Point Park operates on its own model: camping spots can be reserved directly from the operator's website via the Book Now button, though walk-ups are usually accommodated. Reserve early for spring wildflower weekends, summer holidays, and the Formula 1 race weekend in fall.
What to expect at campgrounds near Lost Creek
Expect a range of setups. Full-hookup resorts on Hudson Bend offer paved roads, pools, laundry, and dog-friendly areas, with pull-through sites, 50-amp and 30-amp hookups, dump stations, and space for big rigs at Sun Outdoors Lake Travis.
Lakefront primitive parks are more rustic. At Windy Point Park, the operator offers dry camping options only, with access to non-potable water bibs for rinsing off, though campers should bring plenty of fresh water for drinking and washing dishes, and dogs and pets of any kind are not allowed at Windy Point Park. Terrain is hilly and rocky, so leveling blocks and sturdy shoes are useful. Cell service is generally strong across the Hudson Bend area on major carriers.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Lost Creek, TX
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Lost Creek, TX?
An RV rental in Lost Creek, TX is one of the most affordable ways to explore Austin and the Hill Country. On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $90 to $175 per night, Class C motorhomes generally run $175 to $300 per night, and larger Class A rigs can reach $325 or more. Because Lost Creek sits just minutes from downtown Austin via Loop 360, you can save money by choosing a delivered trailer instead of paying for downtown hotels during big events. Pro tip: book mid-week stays in February or November for the cheapest RV rental Lost Creek has to offer, since rates dip noticeably outside SXSW and ACL Festival weekends.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lost%20Creek%2C%20TexasWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Lost Creek?
Good news for first-time renters: a regular Texas or home-state driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Lost Creek, TX. There is no commercial driver's license (CDL) or special RV endorsement required, even for a 32-foot Class A motorhome. On RVezy, approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and your ID is verified right inside the booking platform so there is no extra paperwork. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit. Most travelers are surprised how simple it is, then they're cruising Bee Cave Road toward Lake Travis the same afternoon.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs the RV protected if something happens during my trip?
Yes. Every RVezy booking in Lost Creek includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can drive toward Pedernales Falls with real peace of mind. Protection plans help cover accidental damage to the vehicle, and you choose your coverage level at checkout, not the host, so you stay in control of how much protection feels right for your trip. If you bump a low branch on Bee Cave Road or get a flat heading to Lake Travis, support is one call away. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers carefully at checkout, the mid and premium plans significantly lower your out-of-pocket responsibility.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my Lost Creek RV trip changes?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every RV rental in Lost Creek, TX, not the host, and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book. If your plans change shortly after confirmation, you're protected. Outcomes after the grace period depend on how far out from your trip you cancel. If a host cancels on you, RVezy issues a refund or travel credit. For full details, visit the RVezy Help Center before booking. Pro tip: lock in your dates early for ACL Festival or F1 race weekends at Circuit of The Americas, since rigs near Austin sell out fast.

Absolutely. Pet-friendly RV rental Lost Creek options are easy to find on RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see rigs whose owners welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). Many Austin-area hosts even leave bowls, towels, and a list of dog parks in the welcome kit. Once you're on the road, Red Bud Isle on Lady Bird Lake is a popular off-leash spot about 15 minutes from Lost Creek, and McKinney Falls State Park allows leashed pets on every trail. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee and breed details, then ask for their favorite Hill Country patio, since most Austin-area restaurants have a dog-friendly deck.
austintexas.gov/department/parks-and-recreationCan the RV be delivered to my campground or house in Lost Creek?
Yes, RV delivery Lost Creek is one of the most popular options on the platform, especially for first-timers nervous about driving a big rig through Austin traffic. Many RVezy hosts deliver the trailer or motorhome directly to your driveway, a friend's house in Westlake, or campgrounds like McKinney Falls State Park, Pace Bend Park, or Oak Forest RV Park. They'll level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Filter by Delivery on the listing page to see who offers it. Pro tip: ask about delivery to Lake Travis lakeside sites, waking up to sunrise over the water is unbeatable.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/mckinney-fallsHow do mileage limits work and how far can I drive from Lost Creek?

For pine forests, Bastrop State Park (about 35 miles east) winds through the Lost Pines. And Pedernales Falls State Park offers river swimming with hookup loops. tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/find-a-parkWhen is the best time of year for a Lost Creek RV trip?

Summer (June to August) routinely hits 95 to 105 F, so you'll want a rig with strong air conditioning and shaded campsites. Winter is mild (45 to 65 F daytime) and great for snowbird road trips, with only a handful of freeze nights. Pro tip: time your RV camping Lost Creek visit to early April for wildflowers along Highway 71 toward Marble Falls, it's one of the most photogenic drives in Texas.
weather.gov/ewx/climateI've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You've got this. First time renting an RV is easier than most people expect, especially around Lost Creek where roads are wide and well-marked. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to operate the generator, slide-outs, awnings, tanks, and propane. They'll also answer questions over text throughout your trip. If you're nervous about size, start with a Class B campervan rental Lost Creek or a 22-foot Class C motorhome rental Lost Creek, both drive much like a large pickup truck. Pro tip: practice in the Hill Country Galleria parking lot in nearby Bee Cave on a quiet morning, twenty minutes of low-stakes turns and you'll feel confident heading to Lake Travis.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You're covered: every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so a flat tire on Loop 360 or a dead battery at Pace Bend Park is just a phone call away. Help can dispatch a tow, jump-start, tire change, or fuel delivery anywhere in the Austin metro and across Texas. Your host is also a quick text away for system-specific questions like resetting the inverter or relighting the water heater. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate before you leave the host's driveway, having those handy speeds up the roadside call by several minutes, especially if you're stuck along a busy stretch of MoPac or I-35.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my RV from Lost Creek across state lines or into Mexico?
Cross-state road trips are absolutely on the table. An RV road trip from Lost Creek through Louisiana, New Mexico, or Colorado is fair game, and most hosts welcome multi-state itineraries (just confirm in your booking message). Popular routes include Lost Creek to New Orleans (about 510 miles), Lost Creek to Santa Fe (about 700 miles), and the classic Hill Country loop through Fredericksburg and Luckenbach. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend across the border. Pro tip: if you're crossing into another U.S. state, screenshot your RVezy booking confirmation and protection details before you leave, it's a handy reference if any inspection station asks.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat should I budget for fuel on an RV trip from Lost Creek?
Texas typically has some of the lower gas prices in the country, which makes fuel budgeting from Lost Creek easier. Regular unleaded recently runs roughly $2.80 to $3.30 per gallon around Austin, with diesel slightly higher. Expect about 8 to 10 mpg for a Class A, 10 to 14 mpg for a Class C motorhome rental Lost Creek, and 12 to 18 mpg towing a travel trailer with your own truck. A weekend round-trip to Pedernales Falls (about 70 miles) might cost $25 to $40 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the Buc-ee's in Bastrop or Lakeway before heading west, the diesel pumps are RV-friendly and prices often beat downtown Austin stations.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Lost Creek?
Earlier is better. Texas State Parks open reservations up to five months ahead, and weekend sites at McKinney Falls, Pedernales Falls, and Bastrop State Park often fill within hours of release, especially March through May. Book through the official Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system online or by phone. Private RV parks like Oak Forest RV Park or La Hacienda RV Resort on Lake Travis usually have more flexibility, but still expect to book 4 to 8 weeks ahead for peak weekends. Pro tip: if you're chasing a SXSW, ACL, or F1 weekend in Austin, reserve both your RV and campground the moment dates are announced, premium spots near downtown disappear within days.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/reservationsWhat are the local driving conditions like around Lost Creek?

Loop 360 (Capital of Texas Highway) winds through rolling hills and a few low-water crossings, so slow down after heavy rain since Central Texas is famous for flash floods. Bee Cave Road has a couple of steep grades but no hairpins. Avoid downtown Austin and the I-35 corridor in a large rig during weekday rush hour (roughly 7 to 9 AM and 4 to 7 PM), and steer clear of Congress Avenue and South Congress with anything over 25 feet. Pro tip: use MoPac (Loop 1) and SH 71 to bypass downtown when heading to Hill Country wineries, it can save 20 to 30 minutes off your trip.

You can usually dump tanks at the state park dump stations during your stay. tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/find-a-parkWhat's included inside the RV itself?
Pretty much everything you need for the weekend. Motorhome rental Lost Creek listings typically come with a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with toilet and shower, sleeping for 2 to 8 depending on the rig, climate control, and a dinette that converts to a bed. Most include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, awning, outdoor chairs, leveling blocks, sewer hose, and freshwater hose. Many Austin-area hosts add a generator for boondocking and starter kits with linens, kitchenware, and a coffee maker. Wi-Fi hotspots are a common add-on. Pro tip: check the listing's amenities section carefully and message the host to confirm seatbelts for every traveler, especially important for a family RV trip Lost Creek with kids.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat add-ons and pickup options are available?
Hosts in the Lost Creek area offer plenty of useful add-ons to customize your trip: linen and kitchen packages, propane fills, generator hours, bike racks, kayaks, portable grills, fire pits, and outdoor patio mats. Delivery and setup is the most popular extra, with many local hosts willing to drive within 30 to 60 miles for a flat fee, perfect if you're staying at Pace Bend Park or a private property in Dripping Springs. Pickup is usually from the host's home or a meeting point near Loop 360 or US 290. Pro tip: bundle a delivery, setup, and pickup package, you'll skip the stressful first drive entirely and start your Hill Country adventure already parked under the oaks.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lost%20Creek%2C%20TexasHow do payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card at booking, no cash exchanges with the host. A refundable security deposit (typically several hundred to a couple thousand dollars depending on the rig) is pre-authorized separately from your booking payment and released after the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. Any damages are handled transparently with photo documentation. Pro tip: do a quick walkaround video with the host at pickup and again at drop-off, recording the exterior, tires, interior, and tank levels. It takes five minutes and is the best way to protect your full security deposit and avoid disputes.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip destinations from Lost Creek?
You're in road-trip heaven. From Lost Creek you can reach an incredible mix of destinations: Fredericksburg wine country is 75 miles west for German food and dozens of wineries. Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is about 90 miles for granite-dome hiking. San Antonio and the River Walk are 80 miles south. Padre Island National Seashore on the Gulf is about 250 miles for beachfront camping. And Big Bend National Park, the crown jewel, is about 460 miles southwest for stargazing under some of the darkest skies in North America. Pro tip: for a 5-day Hill Country loop, route Lost Creek to Fredericksburg to Enchanted Rock to Garner State Park to San Antonio and home, you'll cover the best of Texas RV rental country in under 500 miles.
