Campgrounds near Manchaca
Manchaca is a small census-designated place in Travis County, roughly ten miles southwest of downtown Austin. Its location on the edge of the Hill Country puts RV travelers within a short drive of central Austin attractions, Onion Creek, and the greenbelts along Slaughter Creek, while keeping campgrounds out of the busiest urban traffic.
The closest options range from urban RV resorts to a full state park. Buda Place and Trailmarker RV Park sit just south of the city near the I-35 corridor. Austin Lone Star RV Resort is a Sun Outdoors property on the south I-35 frontage road with full hookups, a pool, and cabin rentals. Awkward Turtle RV Austin adds another private option in the same corridor.
McKinney Falls State Park, about fifteen minutes northeast in southeast Austin, is the main public campground in the area. It offers 81 water-and-electric sites plus six cabins on 641 acres at the confluence of Onion and Williamson Creeks, and is administered by Texas Parks and Wildlife.
Things to do near Manchaca
McKinney Falls State Park is the anchor for outdoor activity. Visitors can hike or bike the paved 2.8-mile Onion Creek Hike and Bike Trail, swim below the upper and lower falls when creek flow is safe, fish, geocache, and try bouldering on the limestone ledges between the falls. Nearly nine miles of trails wind through Hill Country woods past an ancient rock shelter and Old Baldy, one of the oldest bald cypress trees in Texas.
Central Austin is close enough for day trips from any of the private RV parks. Barton Springs Pool, Zilker Park, South Congress Avenue, the Texas State Capitol, and live-music venues along Sixth Street and Red River are all a short drive north. West of Manchaca, the Hill Country opens up toward Dripping Springs and the wineries and swimming holes of the Pedernales corridor.

Central Texas has a long camping season but distinct pressure points. Spring, from March through May, is the most popular window: wildflowers bloom, temperatures are comfortable, and rain arrives in short thunderstorms. May is typically the wettest month, and Onion Creek at McKinney Falls can flood quickly after heavy rain, so check creek conditions before planning water activities.
Summer brings sustained heat, with daytime highs regularly at or above 95°F and frequent triple-digit afternoons in July and August. Shaded sites and full hookups with reliable 30- and 50-amp power become essential for running air conditioning. Fall, from September into November, cools steadily and delivers a second peak for camping demand. Fall is typically the wettest season in Austin, so plan for occasional heavy rain.
Winter is mild and dry compared with the rest of the country. Freezing nights occur only a handful of times each season, and most private and state park campgrounds stay open year-round, though brief hard freezes can trigger short water shutoffs.

RV was great! We had a wonderful time renting it for a weekend at COTA. Jesse was very responsive and helpful anytime we needed it.

Jesse is great! This is my second time renting a camper from him and he has been very easy to work with. We were camping locally and he even stopped by to check on us the day after our departure and brought us an outdoor rug just in case we got some rain! I highly recommend him and we will certainly be using him again in the future!

How to book near Manchaca
McKinney Falls State Park uses the Texas State Parks reservation system operated by Texas Parks and Wildlife. Campsites and cabins can be booked online or by phone up to five months in advance on a rolling daily basis, with the window opening at 8 a.m. Central Time. Weekends and holidays from March through November regularly sell out, so book as soon as the window opens for your dates. If a site shows no availability, cancellations are common and third-party scanners can text alerts.
Private parks such as Austin Lone Star RV Resort, Buda Place, Trailmarker RV Park, and Awkward Turtle RV Austin are booked directly through the operator's website or phone. Long-stay and monthly rates are available at several of these properties.
What to expect near Manchaca

Private RV resorts in the corridor typically provide 30- and 50-amp service, full hookups, laundry, a dump station, and Wi-Fi, and most are pet-friendly. McKinney Falls has 81 sites, all with water and electric (a mix of 30-amp and 50-amp loops), restrooms with showers in each large loop, and a dump station on-site, but no individual sewer hookups.

texasstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Manchaca and Austin?
Manchaca itself is calm and suburban, but a few local tips will set you up for success. I-35 through Austin gets congested between 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m., so plan pickups and drop-offs outside rush hour. Taller RVs should stick to I-35, US-183, or SH-130 (a toll road that's great for bypassing the city). Watch for flash flood warnings during spring storms, especially on low-water crossings around Onion Creek and Williamson Creek. Pro tip: check Drive Texas for real-time TxDOT road conditions, and use SH-130 to avoid traffic when heading to San Antonio or the Hill Country.
drivetexas.org/What amenities will my Manchaca campground have, and where can I dump tanks?
Most RV parks near Manchaca offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, and sewer), Wi-Fi, laundry, hot showers, and a pool. At McKinney Falls State Park, sites include water and electric but no sewer, with a dump station on-site for use when you leave. If you're boondocking or staying at a partial-hookup site, you can dump and refill fresh water at McKinney Falls, the Flying J in Buda (about 8 miles south), or many Austin-area RV dealers. Many listings also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, camp chairs, and a generator or solar setup for off-grid stops. Wi-Fi hotspots are sometimes offered as an add-on. Pro tip: filter listings on RVezy by sleeps count and confirm seatbelt count matches your group size, a family RV trip in Manchaca works best when every traveler has a dedicated belted seat for the drive.

Mileage policies vary, so check the listing for daily included miles and the per-mile overage rate. Pro tip: bundle add-ons during booking rather than at pickup, it's usually cheaper, and your host will have everything ready to go when you arrive.
austintexas.gov/airportHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: when you book your RV rental in Manchaca, RVezy charges your credit or debit card through the platform, so you never hand cash to the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment and released after your trip, assuming the RV comes back in the same condition. To avoid any hiccups, do the walk-around with your host at pickup and drop-off, take photos, and follow the host's fueling and cleaning instructions. Pro tip: keep your final receipts for tolls on SH-130 and the MoPac express lanes during your Manchaca RV trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow do I manage summer heat on a Manchaca RV trip?
Central Texas summers are hot but manageable with a few smart moves. Daytime highs from June through August often hit 95 to 105 degrees Fahrenheit, so book an RV with strong roof-mounted air conditioning (most rentals in Manchaca have it) and plan campsites with shade or 50-amp service to run the AC comfortably. Drive early in the morning or after 6 p.m. to avoid peak heat, and cool off at Barton Springs Pool in Austin (a spring-fed swimming hole that stays around 68 to 70 degrees year-round), the swimming holes at McKinney Falls, or Jacob's Well in nearby Wimberley. Pro tip: shoulder seasons (March to May and October to November) are the smart-money move, better weather, lower nightly rates, and easier campground reservations.
