Campgrounds near Meadow
Meadow is a small town in Terry County on the South Plains of West Texas, roughly 19 miles southwest of Lubbock. The surrounding landscape is flat, semi-arid cotton and farm country, and most RV infrastructure clusters along US-62/385 between Brownfield and Lubbock. Meadow itself does not have a large campground; travelers typically base out of parks in Brownfield or the Lubbock metro and use Meadow as a quiet overnight or staging point.
Close-in options include Buggies RV Park and Opdyke West RV Park, which serve travelers on the Brownfield corridor. Heading toward Lubbock, Mesa Verde RV Park sits in southwest Lubbock near Texas Tech University and the medical district, making it a practical base for city errands and services. Camelot Village RV and Motorhome Park and American RV Park South round out the nearby list with full-hookup sites.
RV parks in this area tend to be no-frills operations focused on clean facilities and reliable hookups rather than resort-style amenities, which suits travelers looking for a straightforward overnight or a base for regional day trips.
Things to do near Meadow
Day-trip options concentrate in Lubbock and Brownfield. The Terry County Heritage Museum, about 12 miles from Meadow, covers regional ranching and farming history. In Lubbock, families can visit the Lubbock Lake Landmark, an archaeological and natural history preserve with trails and exhibits, and the Buddy Holly Center, which focuses on the musician's life and influence. The Silent Wings Museum documents WWII glider pilot history through aircraft displays and artifacts.
Outdoor time centers on Lubbock's Mackenzie Park, home to a prairie dog town, and Buffalo Springs Lake southeast of the city for fishing, swimming and paddling. Farther afield, Palo Duro Canyon and other Panhandle parks offer hiking and scenic drives, and Caprock Canyons State Park and Trailway is known for its bison herd and rim-country views within a two-hour drive.

The South Plains around Meadow have a semi-arid climate with hot summers, cool winters and strong wind year-round. The area sits at nearly 1,000 meters elevation and is exposed to clashes between air masses that cause sudden changes in temperature. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel, with mild days and cool nights.
Summer runs hot and sunny with occasional thunderstorms, and daytime highs commonly push past 100 degrees Fahrenheit. From April through June, and less commonly in autumn, tornadoes can develop in this part of Tornado Alley, so travelers should monitor forecasts and know where the campground storm shelter is. Sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph are common in spring, and high-profile vehicles should use extra caution with crosswinds.
Winter is the driest season, days are quite mild but nights drop a lot, and cold spells and snowfalls can occur. Light snow accumulates each winter, averaging around 7 inches per year. Freezing nights make water-line management a real consideration for winter RVers.
How to book near Meadow
Private RV parks near Meadow, including Buggies RV Park, Opdyke West RV Park, Mesa Verde RV Park, Camelot Village RV and Motorhome Park, and American RV Park South, are typically booked directly by phone or through the park website. Many of these locations also host long-term guests tied to regional oil and gas work, so calling ahead to confirm nightly availability is worthwhile, especially for larger rigs.
For Texas State Parks in the wider region, such as Caprock Canyons or Palo Duro Canyon, reservations run through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Most overnight camping or lodging reservations may be reserved up to five months in advance, with the five-month reservation window opening at 8 a.m. Reservations for most sites are site-specific, and campers can reserve up to five sites for the same park and time period. Under the current system, campers pay the full reservation cost in advance.
What to expect near Meadow
Meadow is small and rural, and services in town are limited. Fuel, groceries and RV supplies are easier to find in Brownfield or Lubbock. The Walmart Supercenter in Brownfield handles routine grocery and supply runs, while dedicated RV dealers and service centers are in Lubbock.
Expect open sky, cotton fields and steady wind. Two-lane highways in the area handle motorhome traffic easily but are shared with oil field trucks during weekday business hours, and the route from Lubbock passes through classic High Plains scenery of cotton fields and pump jacks. Road conditions are generally good year-round, though winter ice storms can develop quickly.
RV parks in this corridor lean utilitarian: level gravel or dirt pads, full hookups, laundry, and quiet neighbors. Shade is limited, so awnings and window coverings help during summer afternoons.

Pro tip: a quick five-minute walkaround video at handover saves headaches later.

Summer in Meadow is hot but very manageable with a little planning. Daytime highs in July and August often reach the mid-90s F, but the dry High Plains air means evenings cool into the 60s, making for perfect campfire weather. Run your roof AC on shore power at campgrounds (30/50-amp sites in Lubbock and Brownfield handle it easily), and limit generator-only AC use to a few hours at a time. Drive in the morning when winds are calmer, hydrate constantly, and park with the door away from the prevailing southwest breeze. Local insider tip: the 30-minute drive north to Buffalo Springs Lake gives you swimming, shade, and an instant cool-down, the perfect afternoon escape on a summer family RV trip Meadow itinerary.
