Campgrounds and RV parks near Mustang Ridge, TX

Circuit of the Americas draws most of the tourism traffic in this corridor, hosting Formula 1, MotoGP, NASCAR weekends, and large concerts. RV travelers who plan around a race weekend often base themselves at COTA RV Park or one of the other nearby parks for easy shuttle access. At McKinney Falls State Park visitors can camp, hike, mountain or road bike, geocache, go bouldering, picnic, and also fish and swim in Onion Creek, all inside Austin's city limits. Families also head to Doc's Drive In Theatre for outdoor movies, and downtown Austin, roughly a half-hour drive, adds live music, museums, Zilker Park, and Barton Springs Pool to a trip itinerary.

Central Texas has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. Spring, particularly late March through May, is the most comfortable stretch for RV camping, with warm days, wildflowers along area roadsides, and May typically the wettest month of the year. Storms during this period can be severe and produce flash flooding along creeks, and Onion Creek can flood after rainfall, so visitors should contact the park for current creek conditions. Summer is hot. Daytime highs typically climb into the mid-90s and often reach 100°F, and most summer days in Austin heat up to at least 90 degrees, and it gets over 100°F on an average of 29 days a year. RVs without strong air conditioning and shade will feel it. Fall cools off gradually from September into November and is the wettest season, with winter the driest. It is also one of the most popular booking windows because temperatures moderate and major COTA events fill the calendar. Winter is the quiet season. Freezing nights happen but hard freezes are uncommon, and many travelers use the area as a snowbird stop between Austin day trips.
