Campgrounds and RV parks near New London, TX

In town, the London Museum documents the 1937 New London School explosion, which killed nearly 300 students and teachers and led Texas to require odorants in natural gas. The adjacent Cenotaph of Texas pink granite was erected in front of the rebuilt school in 1939 and anchors the historic center of town. Water recreation is close at hand. Lake Tyler and Lake Tyler East to the west are used for boating, fishing, and swimming. Martin Creek Lake State Park, roughly a half hour southeast near Tatum, covers 286 acres and adds hiking, a swim area, and lake access on a reservoir originally deeded to the state in 1976. Further afield, Kilgore College and the East Texas Oil Museum sit a short drive north, and Nacogdoches, one of the oldest towns in Texas, is within day-trip range to the south.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in this part of East Texas. Temperatures are moderate, hardwoods add color in late October and November, and Martin Creek Lake State Park lists spring and summer as its busy season. Wildflowers appear from March into May along rural highways in Rusk and Cherokee counties. Summer brings heat and humidity, with afternoon highs frequently in the 90s Fahrenheit and thunderstorms possible on short notice. Lakeside sites at Martin Creek Lake are in highest demand from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and holiday weekends fill well in advance. Winter is mild by national standards but can swing between shirtsleeve afternoons and hard freezes within the same week. Most private RV parks near New London stay open year round, but water hookups may be affected during freeze events, so travelers should confirm with the park before arrival.

New London itself is a small residential community, so full grocery runs, fuel, and RV supplies are easier in Henderson, Kilgore, Longview, or Tyler. Cell coverage is generally reliable along the highway corridors and thinner on the back roads toward the lakes. Sites at nearby private parks tend to be gravel or concrete pads with full hookups, and many cater to long-term guests, so amenities like laundry are common but pools and playgrounds vary by park. Confirm rig-length limits and big-rig access before booking. At Martin Creek Lake State Park, the entrance gate operates from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and requires a four-digit code after hours. A daily entrance fee applies per person 13 and older, and a Texas State Parks Pass covers entry for a year at more than 80 state parks.
