Campgrounds and RV parks near New Summerfield, TX

New Summerfield sits in Cherokee County in the East Texas Piney Woods, a rolling, forested region between Tyler and Lufkin. RV travelers use the town as a quiet base for reaching the Texas State Railroad, the Neches River bottomlands, and the lakes east of Tyler. Highway 79 and US 69 give straightforward access for larger rigs. Options within a short drive cover most travel styles. Rusk KOA Holiday, roughly fifteen miles south, offers full-hookup pull-throughs, cabins, and typical KOA family amenities. Texas State Railroad Campground, on the Rusk depot grounds, lets guests park within walking distance of the historic steam and diesel excursion line. Lavender RV Park and Plantation and Bushman's RV Park provide smaller, quieter alternatives closer to town. For lake access, The Boulders at Lake Tyler sits about forty minutes northwest near Whitehouse on Lake Tyler, with concrete pads and waterfront sites on a 128-acre property. Together, these campgrounds cover the main use cases for a Piney Woods trip: family stays, fishing, and rail sightseeing.

Rusk KOA Holiday takes reservations directly through the KOA website or the KOA mobile app, with a standard cancellation policy and a rewards discount for members. Book several months out for spring weekends and holidays. Texas State Railroad Campground offers Instant Book sites through RoverPass; selecting Instant Book automatically approves the reservation, while other sites still require campground approval. Train tickets are booked separately at texasstaterailroad.net and often sell out for peak weekends. The Boulders at Lake Tyler books online through its own site and third-party platforms, with summer holiday reservations opening online about six months before arrival. Expect a two-night minimum for holiday weekends, and note that holiday reservations are held online for seven days before phone bookings open. Lavender RV Park and Plantation and Bushman's RV Park are smaller operations; call ahead to confirm availability, especially for longer rigs.
